None of the above adds any value to this thread. This whole thread is a discussion about the offense and trying to determine the root of it's issues. That being said, I think the real issue thats hurting us is the lack of a running game this year. It hasnt been effective at all. Last few years that was a huge thing for us in getting our scores. Power running. just look how many TD's Ricky/ronnie had for us last year. It almost seems like we've gotten away from that now that we have Brandon Marshall. It seems we want to take advantage more through the air, which is great because it should help open up the run, but we're not running. That's the biggest part of the offenses problem IMO. As someone stated earlier, Henne and Sanchez stats wise are pretty darn close. What makes the Jets offense so much more powerful is their outstanding running game. They've got it. We dont. Is it our backs? Our Line? Our offensive co-ordinator for not really giving this team an offensive identity and sticking to it? I have no idea, but if I had to guess, its a combination of the above. That being said too, it may in part be Chad Henne. The way we've coached him to play, is conservative. It's not his style either if you watched him play at Michigan, they stretched the field alot with Manningham, and Braylon Edwards. He likes taking shots down field, we just encourage him not to do it, because we want to play a ball control style offense. So it's a combination of a bit of everything really. Our coaching staff needs to fix it, and we have to execute alot better as a team.
If we're relying on Henning to come up with anything, well then we'll go the rest of the way scoring less than 25 points.
Tell Henning to call better plays. Calling plays with 1 guy running a route and everybody else in max protect sure won't get the ****ing job done.
Firstly, your comment regarding "numerous chances on the opponent's side of the 50 yd line is not really productive" is simply wrong. On most of those opportunities the coaching staff went into complete and utter conservative mode, going as far as to run on three straight plays in a row in certain junctures (I can provide the play-by-play if you need more empirical proof). Secondly, how can you ramble on about "stat monkeys" not telling the whole story and then go onto provide a stat to support your argument? Hmmm...I think you just contradicted your own underlying argument.
While I am still not convinced Henne is the long term answer at the QB position. I think the conservative game plans are really the reason the Dolphins have scored so few points. Also Ricky and Ronnie are no longer top tier backs. Neither of these backs are a threat to break a long run. The Dolphins play not to lose rather than to take chances and try to score a lot of points. This approach toward the game is coming from Sparano. Also Henne can't be blamed for the offensive play calls since they come from offensive coordinator Dan Henning. I didn't like this approach of playing not to lose when it was used in the Wannstedt era. I don't like it now either. It seems that when a team plays not to lose. They end the season losing more games than they win over the course of the season. The Dolphins need to open up the offense and see if Henne really has what it takes to be a quality starter in the NFL.
