I can't comment on the 1st or 2nd sentence (given most TV viewing angles), but I agree with the lack of explosiveness. And it sucks.

Well we all would have liked that. Those two drives were all on Dan Henning, and you can't tell me otherwise.

In the NFL, they have these jobs known as "coordinators", they have various jobs, some are defensive, some are offensive, if the team is successful, and wins a SB, they get a Ring and everything!

Padre, I mean this as a joke of course, but from all of the threads we've seen, I feel like your dream offensive depth chart for the Dolphins would be:

    QB - Pennington, Pat White
    RB - Sheets, Hilliard, Cobbs
FB - Who needs one? We have Pat White
WR1 - Roberto Wallace, Bess, Hartline
    WR2 - Ryan Grice-Mullen, Moore, Ginn, Marshall
TE - Rolly Lumbala, Rolly Lumbala's brother, Fasano, Haynos
OL - Murtha, Tsoumpas, Tsoumpas, Tsoumpas, Garner (from left to right)

Can I trademark the term "Padremongering"? Please, pretty please?

Again, this is all in good fun, but man, nary a positive word about Chad Henne all year...c'mon now, he's nowhere near as bad as you keep trying to make it sound, and he's not the only problem with this offense. There's a lot of problems with this offense. Interior OL, running game, pass plays with only 1 and 2 guys running routes, etc, etc.

But it is up to Henning to call the plays our players can execute, and in the right situation to boot.

Henning is so hot an cold. That pass to Fasano against the Pack was great, but there were some real suspect calls yesterday.

How about you fix the thread title to address the real problem? "Henning's 15 straight games under 25 pts" would be sufficient enough because he's the real problem here, and has been since he got here. Until Henning goes, enjoy mediocre offense because the senile bastard doesn't have a damn clue what he's doing. If he isn't canned after the season, Sparano needs to be canned, because there's no reason an incompetent clown like Henning has a job, especially after the laughable playcalling exhibited in the Steelers game. Of course people will still defend this blistering idiot because he once got to a SB thanks to a great defense.

I do, without that second Te who can block well, the running game will not get on track, those two should be given opportunities to fill that role.

And agree on the Speed issue, we really do not have any on offense, which is why we need more blockers in on any given play.

The other odd thing is, this Oline is fine for pass blocking, they do a great job, but we are a running team (supposedly) so that is a part of the reason why we see the results we have seen.

I'd like to see Roberto Wallace emerge down in the RedZone as a target.

The reason for those gadget plays is the offense just does not have talent enough to not use them.

Some people just don't know what they're looking at when they're watching football games. To most, it's quite obvious the playcalling is the problem. You can make a case for the running game not being what it was last year, but I disagree. Ronnie was great the 1st 3 weeks, while Ricky sucked, yet Ricky still got as many carries as Ronnie has. Ricky has been great the last 3 weeks while Ronnie has sucked, meanwhile Ronnie has more carries than Ricky does. Glad we have an OC who doesn't know what the **** feeding the hot hand means. But let's all pile on Henne after having the best game of his career by blaming all the offensive deficiencies on him since we can't use inability to pumpfake or go through progressions as an excuse this week!

Eh, in good fun or not, those threads are just my views on a given player, and I fish the bottom of the roster looking at guys tbh are longshots in the first place.

Sort of like picking penny stocks, the vast majority are not going to pay off, however occasionally you do find a real winner.

And the facts is da facts, the offense is not working and has not for the last 15 games, or even longer, as after Henne's first 4 games the wheels have come off of the unit, the last 25 pt outburst featured 2 Ginn Td's and a Taylor fumble return for a TD for the bulk of the scoring.

Agreed Padre, but Stat Monkey also states Pennington won the AFC East with 19 TDs and 3653 yds in 2008, while Henne is on pace for 24 TDs and 4656 yds against a much tougher schedule.

If Henning is only going to give Henne 2 or 3 receiver options per play to throw the ball to, one of them has to be able to stretch the field vertically and Wallace is the only offensive player on this team with that ability. Luckily, he was all over the field again yesterday on ST and made his 2nd catch. That’s a pretty good indication the staff is gaining faith in his mental game.

    One can only hope.

It's more than just ill-timed gadget plays. He is unoriginal, uncreative, he doesn't value motion or putting multiple players into routes. He's just to damn conservative, and yes I know some stat monkey will toss out the pass/run breakdown, but really whats the difference when we are only throwing it for two yards?

The game has passed Henning by and he just cannot figure out what to do or when to do it. Why do we need to say this week after week after week? The man has almost no situational awareness and seems to not understand how to use talents like Henne or Marshall.

Is Henne supposed to throw the ball for 2yds, or is he supposed to push it downfield?

That is not factual Tx, he has run the offense for three years now, the past two we finished Top 8 in running the ball and around 20th in passing (could be wrong on that, but I do think it was 17th and 23rd or something similar).

Henning is not the issue, the pieces on the offense are imo.

Add Beast, and the running game was better in 08 Pennington did not have to throw the ball as often.

Well, are they going with max protect schemes because Henne does not read the blitz well?

Or for a host of other reasons, and that is why I think blaming Henne is like blaming Ford because your teenaged son crashed the Explorer.

Agree completely about Wallace, not that Hartline is garbage, but he is not the same guy who was averaging 16 ypc in 09.

I know. And I agree, the offense has been pretty unproductive. But let me stat monkey it up for a second, with the same offense, with Chad Pennington at the helm, we managed to break the 30pt plateau just twice in 2008 (we broke 25 points 5 times, 2 of which were losses and one was a failed Seahawks 2pt conversion from going to OT), when we won the division. Heck, we won 5 games while scoring 17, 17, 16, 16, and 14 points. Take away Phillip Merling's defensive touchdown, and that's another game with 17 points. Those games were against the Chargers (17) Jets (17 minus Merling's TD), Raiders (17), Rams (16), Bills (16), and 49ers (14) - not exactly the greatest teams or defenses in 2008, save San Diego.

I think it's definitely the philosophy of this coaching staff to play it close to the vest, not turn the ball over, and win with defense, more than than it's the fact we've had trouble scoring TDs with Henne at the helm. It's been commonplace for 3 seasons now, it's nothing new (i.e. - it's more coaching than it is the players). That certainly doesn't seem to be the philosophy that got the Patriots to the Super Bowl, or won the Colts and Saints Super Bowls - they put up points. We do not.

Which is why we'll never win anything of importance with this clown calling plays. Playing for FG's and playing not to lose, results in losing. It's going to be depressing watching Henne go to pro bowls with another team while we're still living in the 1970's with a ground and pound ball control offense that isn't working.

Playcalling aside, if that's the directive from Sparano, then I'll take up issue with more coaches than just Dan Henning, and whomever our special teams coach is on a given week. That system doesn't work unless you have a dominant defense circa ours in 1998-2000, the Ravens, Steelers, Jets, etc.

We were playing competition that could not score as often as the current competition can so there was no need for Penny to sling the ball around when we could just run the ball and eat the clock to win.

That should be bolded, bookmarked and pasted into every discussion about Henning/Henne/the offense in general simply because it is so true.

Folks may think Dan Henning is calling some of this stuff because he has lost it in the South Florida Sunshine, the plain fact is, he calls the game the way Sparano wants it called, he is not a one man band up in the booth doing whatever the hell he wants to, Sparano has a massive voice in what is called and what isn't.

The bland playcalling is more or less to protect the ball and to not turn it over, that is why (imho) we see things like a Sweep on 3rd and 3, cannot turn the ball over, cannot risk a sack that moves us out of FG range, so what is left?

i think the problems scoring are all on Henne and the offensive line. Let me explain before everyone freaks out. It is clear to me that Henne is pretty good working a full field. Our offense doesnt seem to have a problem moving the ball. It seems we can move the ball pretty much at will on anybody. The problems arise when we get to the red zone. considering we were 2nd overall last year you cant possibly think henning is the problem. The red zone is where two problems crop up that we are simply unable to overcome. One is our offensive line which simply cant run block like we did last year. The second is Chad Henne who hasnt learned how to pass in the red zone where the gaps are smaller and the receivers less open.

So if you're an offensive coordinator and you dont have an effective running game and you have a QB who hasnt yet learned how to set up his receivers in the red zone what plays do you call that will score?

I completely agree. If Sparano has anything to do with this playing not to lose mentality, fire him too, and get a coach more in tune with what it takes to win in todays NFL.

For the first part, we beat San Diego by 7, Jets, by 7, Raiders by 2, Seahawks by 2, Rams by 4, and 49ers by 5....I don't think not having to pass it was the case, they were all down to the wire games.

The second part is what I don't get. To me, it seems like you have an issue with Henne. He's better suited for another offense, which is why I have issues with Henning for the most part, but it'd be an epic mistake to not play Chad Henne right now, as he clearly has the tools to be a franchise QB. Guys like Steve Young, Jon Gruden, Ron Jaworski, etc. have said so, and I know they know more than I do.

In other words, we were able to win with ****ty playcalling and a ****ty philosophy because the cupcake schedule we played. Play real teams and that ****ty playcalling and ****ty philosophy doesn't work. Surprise. I'll pray every day Captain Senility retires at the end of the season so we can start scoring points, and winning games, against real teams.

If that's the way Sparano wants things called, he can try not to let the door hit him on his way out too.

Apparently his timer clicked to "idiot" when the 2010 season opened.

but that is just one of the legs on the stool though Adamp.

Oline=no #2 scoring option=Tough Defenses=reluctance to risk turnovers=running game not working as well=Take the Field Goal.

Yep, cannot pound it in, Beast is double teamed, Hartline is not scaring anyone and Fasano is being kept in as a blocker and is not super effective as a Receiver in the Red Zone.

In theory Henne would dump the ball off to the scat back, since we don't have one DBess is miscast in that role at the moment, this is where Ronnie B would be helpful..but..

And that is why I'm pimping Lil' Beast Wallace, if Beast is doubled then insert Wallace in man on man and just let his height advantage go to work.

Some might argue that the main culprit in failing to score more than 25 points during this 15-game span is lack of execution in the running game.

This season in particular, Henne has been forced to run an offense that has been almost completely devoid of running prowess.

Couple that with conservative play calling and very poor starting field position (something few people remember to factor in but that the Dolphins are consistently faced with due to poor kick return average) and I think you have your answer.

Incidentally, Henne is currently projecting out to around 22 touchdowns and 12 interceptions this season and QB rating a few points under 90.

Therefore, I am forced to suggest that the title of this article is misleading. It's not Henne that can't score, it's the offense as a whole that can't score. Henne is far from perfect but is holding up his end of the bargain.

Whatever floats your Henning Apologist boat. Obviously the problem is the laughable playcalling, the laughable play not to lose philosophy, as well as the running game which is mostly Henning's fault being Ricky played like **** the first 3 weeks and great the past 3 weeks, with Ronnie being the opposite. Yet of course Henning fed the ball to the ineffective runner instead of the effective one. His senility really has gotten bad.

They would grind the clock, and kick a FG late to win the game.

Eh, pay no mind to those so called experts R4F, they can change their opinions in a weeks' time.

The larger point, I agree, there is no specific reason to bench Henne, there are some things that have to be cleaned up on the offense as a whole, which is why I started this thread with a "before..".

I'm not calling for Thigpen or Pennington, however if either one is a part of the solution to the offensive woes then I wouldn't care either way, I'm not married to any of the Qb's we have on the roster, I just want wins whomever leads us to them makes no difference to me.

Sorry, but I just can't buy this at all.

Firstly, Miami's pass protection has been fantastic (I can only assume that you're referring to run blocking, but that would make your analysis only half-right).

Secondly, Henne has shown an ability to score in the redzone, both last season and this season. He did against the Jets, he did it against Green Bay, and he did it plenty of times last year.

Has he missed a few throws as well? Of course, but the real issue is a complete and utter inability to run in for the score, which allows defenses to drop more guys into coverage making it much more difficult for Henne to fit in passes.

If anything, I applaud Henne for not trying to force throws into the endzone, which more often than not lead to interceptions. It's a sign of growth.

When your QB has 8 passing TDs in 6 games while your running backs corps has 1 rushing TD in 6 games, the culprit is fairly obvious in my opinion.

Just checking, and thanks for clarifying. IMO, and I think this is because sometimes I don't understand some of your posts, it seemed you had an agenda against Henne, and while I'm the first to admit he's got work to do, I think the "boxed in" philosophy DolfanMike talked about, we're not going to score points, and our defense and especially our special teams, are not yet good enough to overcome the lack of offensive production.

If someone told me a few months ago that Henne would throw for 3,872 yards, 21 TD and 13 INT (which is what he's on pace for).. I don't think I'd be disappointed... but meh, I guess something like 4,500 yards, 30 TDs, and 8 INTs or something is only acceptable to some in a young quarterback's second year starting.

i'm certainly not a henning apologist since there is nothing to apologize for. the guy is calling brilliant games with what he has to work with. when henne becomes tom brady and our offensive line learns to run block i'll expect more out of this offense. until then i'm thrilled with what production we're getting from this personnell

I'm not a Henne fan, nor am I a Henne hater, to me he is a streaky streaky Qb.

He started out slow vs Pitt, caught fire, then cooled off.

But I love it when he shows off that arm, Henne has a cannon and watching rocket balls come out to a Receiver.
