The big thing I found with this is it makes me pay attention to the stimulants and foods I use. Before I would just eat or use whatever. Now everything has such bigger ramifications.

Basically, because there are no vehicles in the game, quests that involve traveling any sort of medium distance wind up becoming a chore because you have to keep your player character healthy during the trek.

Check the official forum. You should be able to get there from the official Fallout New Vegas site.

Not to new places. And there are plenty of quests that involve going to new areas. Just as an example, if you choose to get a new sheriff for Primm, you have to go to the prison and the Mojave Outpost, neither of which were discovered when you start that quest. (Unless you’re really nonlinear.)

See I did that quest and walked from Primm to Mojave Outpost and it wasnt a problem. My status meters went up only a little bit. And I don`t know about you but I generally take some damage so I have to eat things to recoup healt. Most things I eat will lower the food and water bars. Also I just made the walk from nipton to novac and havent had an issue.

Im sure you guys have all come across the thing about the blue star caps. Does it ever become a quest or is it just something to be aware of and keep your eyes open.

I like to explore and rack up EXP so I take damage. The mode just doesn’t do a whole lot for me. If you didn’t have to maintain realistic rest levels it would be more bearable.

Catalyst 10.10 drivers are out. No New Vegas performance improvements. I’m surprised.

Need Help... Pretty early in the game.

Primm needs a sheriff and Meyers won't talk to me, yet he is the icon I'm suppose to talk to. There is another icon, but I can't figure out where to. What do I do?

    EDIT
Never mind... I made Primm Slimm robot guy thingy sheriff. About 4 hours in so far. I did some quests for Eddie and then helped the NPC raid his place and kill him. Powder Gangers are on my *** now.

im about 17 hours in now. Most of the game is rock solid and i love it. But some of these missions that require you to walk for 20 minutes at a time are just bleh. Overall though, this is great game i believe.

Fallout 3 you get 1 perk per level. And the perks were better. Now you get 1 perk every other level and they're pretty sucky.

    EDIT:

Is there a home I can buy somewhere? I decided to build my character with low strength (to get high agility and intelligence) and I only can carry 170 pounds. I'm at about 130 now, but I have a **** load of items I want to drop off (like sunset sarsaparilla, which I have 30 or so and weigh a pound each).

I broke down and picked this up at K-mart (along with Vanquish and Front Mission Evolved) because it had a $20 credit (so did Vanquish).

If anyone has a K-mart near them, they have been having deals as good (or better) than Amazon for more than a few months now.

i just found the robot "fisto"

he will actually "fist you" if you select it in conversation

also as for the human companions

right now i have cass, and i have had boone. boone almost makes the game too easy. his gun is awesome and the perk he gives you highlights the enemies in red. cass's mission had us kill everybody in silver rush, and then loot the store (after drinking scotch and vodka), so i might stick with her for a while

I’m having fun with all the sidequests in the game. The further you go the more there are per area. I haven’t even done the platinum chip stuff yet because I seem to be helping out the NCR all the time.

You actually get storage for free in the game. Victor’s shack in Goodsprings and the comped suites on the strip, for example. The motel room you rent in Novac is permanently yours, too. There are others later in the game.

I find that it’s better to explore first, then quest later. For example, there’s a mission where you can get a robotic dog as a second companion, but you need to go all the way to a town in the mountains to do it. If you go there first, then take up the quest, you can just fast travel and avoid the problem of the dog running off at will.

Fallout 3 had a lower level cap, so they adjusted it somewhat to make the game just a little more challenging. That said, at level 19, I kill everything in sight. And I mean everything. Game's a cakewalk. Even more so than Fallout 3 I'm afraid.

As for the perks themselves, they are pretty much the same as in Fallout 3.

Make a run for New Vegas early. Just follow the main story line until you get to the strip, visit the Lucky 38 et voila, your own suite. The motel in Novac is more convenient, though.

Let me spoiler you just a little: If you do the "proper" (as in "cool") way of dealing with the main story line, all that reputation with the NCR ... useless

The loading in this game is terrible... It's so ****ing boring when you have to fast travel or go inside... anywhere. It's seriously like 1:30-2 min of loading. It's driving me nuts.

    EDIT:
Should I kill Caesar? I'm about to get on the boat to see the guy and I'm wondering what I should do. I've got like 10 quests that involved killing Benny, his boss, Caesar (I think, at least Boone suggested as much to me). Recommendations? Oh, and an NCr guy gave me a radio to call for backup. Maybe I'll summon them to help Kill Caesar.

Who do you guys think is the best companion? Boone is beastly with that sniper, pretty much saved my *** a few times. If I try someone new, where will he go? I might want to pick him up again.

That doesn't sound right. Are you running it on PC or 360?

Don't commit to any faction just yet. There's a third option. Have you been to Benny's suite in Vegas yet and talked to Yes Man?

Besides, I don't think you're able to kill him during that quest. Technically - probably. Practically - you'll likely get murdered. Just play along for a little while. No need to hurry. You'll get your chance eventually.

Boone's good but his perk, unfortunately, is useless. I would go with Lilly or Cass. Lilly increases sneak attack damage by 10% and Cass makes the gazillion or so bottles of whisky you find in the game actually useful. Very useful.

The best way is to go to a player home (the motel room in Novac or the suite in Vegas) and "dump" your companions there.

If you’re referring to Yes Man, then I might save that for another playthrough. I’m not really sure which faction path I want to go down, though I’ve slaughtered enough Legion to know I don’t like those guys very much.

I don't particularly like any faction. The Legion is heartwarmingly hideous until you discover what a huge pseudo-intellectual bore their leader is. The NCR ... well, suffice to say, the NCR and me haven't exactly been best pals in the past aka Fallout 1 and 2. And Mr. House has already encountered a severe case of shotgun in my current game (note to aspiring megalomaniacs: don't keep tabs on me by means of cowboy roboters; I don't fancy it). That pretty much leaves me with Yes Man. At least he's agreeable.

    Yeah. There's Benny, Benny's boss (I forgot his name), and Caesar. There's a 4th?

I figured that anyone trying to recreate the Roman Empire in the American midwest has to be something of a moron.

Never played Fallout 1 and 2, but my understanding is that the NCR is something of a force for good in those games, just like this one. I like them a lot, particularly because their patrols in New Vegas are totally hapless and I get to wipe out a lot of Legion by helping them. Going the Yes Man route is tempting, but it’s a shame you can’t do that AND help the NCR. That’s the ideal outcome, IMO.

I might do the House missions for the achievement and then reload.

So far this game is pretty awesome... One way I solved my slowdown/loading problem was giving the 360 a rest and clearing the cache. Seems to be fine now.

Vault 22 has to be the dumbest ****ing level ever. I spent over an hour trying to figure out wtf is going on. I know that level so far inside and out I could do it blindfolded now... I'm dreading going back to Vault 34 now too. I only did a little bit of that mission because of the craziness. Anyone know where to find a radiation suit?

I did most of Vault 3, only have one part left. That place is a ****ing goldmine. Stimpacks, Jets, Psychos, etc... GALORE. Plus I've been able to get up some slick new weapons (Magnum .44, that silenced 22 LMG, etc...) and have been able to raise the condition on my all my good guns. Plus I just got Lord of Death, which help my weapon killing ability.

Even though I'm not nearly finished, I can't wait to start over and play the opposite way. I would of constructed my character a bit different had I known some of the changes, for example, strength now effects whether or not you can handle any gun. I put strength at 1 thinking who gives a ****? I'll get a house to store goodies and follower to carry extra stuff and be straight. I just had to waste a perk that lowers weapon strength by 2 so I don't get ****ed with aiming/damage penalties.

I think the ideal character for me (Shoot first player) would be something like S-4 P-6 E-6 C-5 I-8 A-7 L-4. Use Intense training early to boost up some stuff (perception would be first for me).

I do have a question though. I picked up Cass on the recommendation of Ven) and did some of her quest. The last part of the quest is for us to kill the caravan lady and some plasma rifle saleswomen. Problem with that, the plasma rifle saleswomen has a **** load of body guards with some bad *** plasma rifles that rape my soul. How do I kill this *****? Maybe now that I have the Ed E robot with me too, it will serve as a good distraction. I will def. have Boone with me this time too.

His perk may suck, but he is ****ing boss in this game. The guy kills every ****ing thing with that sniper. Cass may have a good perk, but she sucks in combat. Worthless. I'd like to see what would happen with Boone + Level 10 charisma. That mother****er would dominate. When I start over, the first place I'm going to is Novac. I want Boone killing everyone within seconds from the jump.

for that part, i gave cass some armor and a helmet, and i crouched on the building across the street with a rifle. after that, i ate a bunch of whatever drugs i had, and then started firing on the guard at the front door. it's easier to kill everybody from the roof top, than the confines of the store.

edit: i had rex too (with an upgraded brain).

Do you ever get to increase any of your S.P.E.C.I.A.L stats? I know there is a perk that allows you to add one point, but do you ever get to as a result of leveling up?

Also how have you built the skills of your characters? Mine is strong in guns, lockpicks and survival. After those big three are Melee, Science and Repair that are good but not as high.

Lastly did anyone buy the bladed gauntlet? Its an unarmed weapon with a high crit hit chance. Im almost always dismembering people.

Clark Field southeast of Novac. There’s a corpse on the north entrance wearing one which you might have retrieved during the Come Fly With Me quest. Otherwise, the Gun Runner store south of the east entrance to Freeside should have some advanced radiation suits. The trader at Crimson Caravan’s headquarters might have a regular radiation suit to sell.

I’d take some points out of charisma and/or luck and move them to strength.

You either survive a very tough firefight (nearly impossible) or you do the quest the “right” way and find evidence of their guilt. You do this by working for them, building up their trust, and pickpocketing a key off the guy working at the front door so you can get in to their locked back room, hack their terminal/safe, and get the evidence.

I don’t think his perk sucks at all. Visibility can be tough at times in this game. Getting a visual indicator of where the enemy is can be hugely helpful.

Pretty much as soon as the game starts. Saving the guy holed up in the Goodsprings gas station from the Powder Gangers is a sidequest. Doing anything in Primm beyond rescuing the deputy is a sidequest. Going to the Mojave Outpost is itself a sidequest. Finding Primm a sheriff is a sidequest. None of this stuff has anything to do with your objective of finding the guy who shot you at the beginning of the game.

    Cool, I'll check that out.

I would be worried about going below 5 for Charisma simply because I want my companion (specifically Boone) to be strong. I don't know the modifiers of "companion nerve" to be comfortable going below 5. Do you know the modifiers?

I think I'm past this option. When given the choice of evidence or kill them, I convinced Cass to kill them.

My advice is to not rely too much on companions. Boone is nice but there are points in the game where you’ll want to go without him. For example, when the plot requires you to go to Caesar’s camp. You bring Boone along and he just starts killing everyone until you both die in a blaze of accidental glory.

Strength is helpful for obvious reasons, and Intelligence gives you more points to allocate when you level up, and also helps with some speech prompts.

You dug your own grave.

Maybe you can reload an earlier save? Or just hold off on the firefight until later. If you have ED-E and an Incinerator, those help. They’ll focus on ED-E while you set them on fire. Switch to a strong weapon, be liberal with the stimpaks, and you might kill everyone except Jean-Baptiste, who can demolish you if you aren’t careful.

Your special will never go up or down based on leveling. You have to use the intense training perk to get them up. Also, some apparel items will increase your SPECIAL by a point or two.

Also, there is a guy who gives SPECIAL implants for 4000 caps a piece. I think your endurance has to be 8 though. Never seen him so far. I think it might make your choice of SPECIAL increase to 10. Not sure though.

My guy is high in guns, repair, speech, and lockpick. I think Science is pretty high too. Speech has been good to me so far. I love the free XP too.

You can get those at the New Vegas Medical Clinic. East of Crimson Caravan, southwest of the Mole Pig Farm. It’s so obvious that you’d miss it each time you walk past because you’d expect the game to award you the discovery because it’s so close. But it’s literally just to the east of Crimson Caravan.

I'm level 17 and haven't gotten to Vegas yet. I got a 99% condition mark 2 combat armor though.

    50 barter

    75 guns

    75 lockpick

    57 medicine

    58 science

    55 Speech

    5 END
    5 CHR
    8 INT
8 AGI (1 intense training in the beginning, and 1 from the small frame trait)
    5 LCK

I also got the perk for +2 strength when it comes to guns. I'm a big guns guy and am going to put +1 in strength (as an implant) so I can use the Heavy Incinerator with the 700 flamer fuel I got

When you step on a mine you're going to have to heal your limbs that's for sure. At this point I have adamantium skeleton (50% reduced limb damage) and that pretty much makes up for everything.
