Harrison is just a predator .... he wants to be able to illegally hit people with his helmet knowing full well No one is going to do it back to him.

Now, this may sound strange, and I fully admit it is, but I gotta do my best to share this with you guys. When I read Harrison's words, I get the craziest image in my head. There's this anthropomorphic rabbit, kind of like Bugs Bunny. Walks upright, talks, the works. Doesn't look exactly like Bugs Bunny, but he's got these floppy ears and he's wearing a shirt and pants. Well, the rabbit has his hands balled into fists and he's holding them to his eyes and he's crying "BAAAWWWW!!" loudly because he's wet his pants. Relieved his bladder all over himself. It's a completely embarrassing and horrible spectacle, but that's what comes to mind when I read Harrison's quotes.

Robinson put his head down... He may not have made helmet to helmet contact but it is pretty clear he lead with his head (IMHO).

I found Teddi Bruschi's comments to be interesting. http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/20303/bruschi-tacklers-can-deny-big-hit-instincts
I honestly don't think defenders are going to be hampered as much as some are crying about.

I wouldn't say hampered. I think there will be suspensions that have an impact on wins and losses.

As for what Bruschi said, I agree that instincts can be overcome. What I disagree with is the league's "strict liability" stance that only penalizes the defense. Reality is that there will be many times that the defensive player could not possibly avoid helmet to helmet contact b/c the offensive player is moving his own head just as quickly as the defensive player is.

But he also had way more shoulder then head into the chest of Jackson. I doubt he was trying to hit him with his head, looked like he wanted to plant the shoulder into him. And with the speed those two were going, everything was just so fast. Hard to plant the shoulder without the head making contact. Even more so on the shifty player like DJ. It was the cleanest of the hits this weekend that were fined thats for sure. I do see why it was flagged, but at least he wasn't head hunting.

personally harrison would be a hero to me if he struck one game over all the rule changes. i would love to see every defensive player in the leaguie strike next week to get this rule overthrown. hell i would like to see them strike to get that rule overthrown, the protection of the QB, not being able to touch a receiver after 5 yds. strike you defensive players strike!

Harrison would be one of the first people crying for a penalty and protection if people would start crack backing him in the knee. If I were on a team that is what I would do I'd just take his leg while somebody blocked him....look strait down at him with his busted leg and go..sorry man thats just football and I love dishin out the pain.

Yes, he is a predator. That guy is one of the meanest SOB's to ever play this game, and he needs full attention from an offense, trust me. The league needs to listen to James Harrison, not fine him. The Dollphins need to pay attention, too. The league is sending a message that they are going to calm the Steelers down, but it won't work unless they make the game two hand touch.

In essence, they are now telling James and our defense to lower the strike zone, which we will. Now, instead of giving you a headache, we will simply start hurting peoples ribs....and hips.....and knees......and ankles. Every tackle is illegal. That's why it's a tackle.

Since the days of the Steel Curtain until now, the league makes rules to stop us, yet we keep hurting people. It's what we do. It's how we make a living. It's also why we have the most Lombardi's, too. Put another way, we are the reason you have an offensive depth chart.

Maybe you might remember the days when Swann was crying to the league because Tatum and Atkinson were putting big hits on the those WR's :wink2:

Alen, I have been watching or playing this game for 45 years. Form tackling is no longer practiced, because it does not make highlight segments. Desides is right (as much as I hate to admit that:tongue2:) players don't want to hit and wrap up, they want to knock the other guy into the nickel seats (a term from very long ago!! -nowadays they call it the nosebleed section, I think.) The current trend into snotknocking tackling began with the 70's Raiders, Jack Tatum and that bunch. Playing defense devolved into inflicting pain and punishment instead of trying to tackle. That's why you see a lot of big plays on offense because some big hit seeking wannabe poster boy tries to knock the guy out by launching himself into the runner/pass catcher rather than making a sure tackle - and MISSES!!!!. That's self serving, and potentially, if you look at the amount of energy and the G-forces involved, life threatening - which is basically stupid, and that is what our children in high school, and younger, are emulating - which is even more incredibly stupid..

Too bad Harrison didn't have Knoll and Lambert to teach him. He might have been a fairly good linebacker instead of being a thug wearing pads and a helmet.

That's all fine and good if Harrison actually tackled some one. you know, wrap your arms around the guy and bring him to the ground. What Harrison does is blast through his opponents trying to inflict pain, not stop his opponent.

Yeah, he could have been Defensive Player of the Year, or made a 100 yd INT return in the Super Bowl or something. What a waste of talent. We're really stretching when we start going after 92 in black. He's probably the best OLB in the game, and I wouldn't want him coming down here to play us pissed off about ANYTHING, especially his money.
