Man, I almost forgot about that play. The "stomp" was so blantant I was expecting a penalty. Then when there was no penalty I thought for sure there would be a fine. But nothing happened. It wasn't even really talked about in the media. How they could think that was anything but on purpose still perplexes me to this day.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QdJmuCoHYg"]YouTube - Ricky Williams gets stomped[/ame] The announcers even laughed! I hope they show this video to the guys this week!
The thing that killed me was That Ricky was looking Really good and was basically My last hope to get a "W" in that dreadful season...we ended up getting lucky but that cheap shot sure pissed me off..No need for that.
Yeah, had that happened to a player wearing black and "gold" on that play, it'd be a different story altogether. Reminiscent of that ignorant Atlanta Hawks radio guy:
...Owned O.W.N.E.D Only thing that would have made that clip better is if Mark had punched Josh in the throat. ...Props to Mark Schlereth.
No, no....... I like the game the way it's always been played. The thing is that I (and you and you and you and you) was going to watch the games anyway. The fans that they are trying to attract want high scores and balls in the air. So they do things like move the hash marks in to make a wider field. They make rules where you cannot touch a receiver after 5 yards from the line of scrimmage. They change the game to open up space. It is that space (and the subsequent play) that promotes big collisions on every down. I do not like most (if not all) of the rule changes. But to your point, you mention James Harrison and I will mention Mike Webster who suffered from amnesia, dementia, and depression while reportedly living in pickup trucks and train stations. A condition that cause the NFL to fork out 1.5 million dollars to Mike Websters estate after a lawsuit. While we are on the Steelers you can include Merril Hoge who won 1.5 million dollars for what? Misdiagnosis of a concussion..... It's actually funny that you mention Zach Thomas. The Zach Thomas who in 2008 was labeled "prone to concussions". That year Zach went to the Cowboys complaining about the label. The following year Zach Thomas finds himself in Kansas City suffering from yet another concussion IN TRAINING CAMP. Zach Thomas' last action with an NFL team? A Grievance for cutting him without an injury settlement. Then in February of this year Zach Thomas donates his brain (upon death) to science to study the effects of repeated head trauma. You mention Ronnie Lott who in his own words said that he suffered from no less than 12 concussions throughout his career. Surprise, surprise..... Ronnie Lott said that he lied about his recovery to get back in the game. You mention Dick Butkus...Well Butkus predates the concussion awareness of recent years but that didn't stop Butkus from leaving the game in 1974 with a big fat 600,000 dollar check for misdiagnosis of his knees. So tough guy........Do you want to open your wallet for the lawsuit that will come? Do you want to be the guy sitting on the stand when the lawyer asks the question? Don't remember the question? Let me remind you. What are you doing to prevent head and neck injury? What's your answer again? "Well if you don't like the way the game is played by folks like J. Harrison, Z. Thomas, R Lott and D Butkus - there's always volleyball. Lots of action - no contact." Here is the headline the next day: NFL SETTLES FOR 1 BILLION DOLLARS ON ADVICE FROM LAWYERS
My answer? Don't call a crossing pattern with a rookie QB like Colt McCoy in the game, just so he can lead his receiver into a kill zone. maybe we should outlaw crossing patterns? outlaw zone coverage? maybe ball carriers should be flagged for lowering their head before a collision? you tell me tough guy. lol
