    Meh, perhaps.
Like good Managers never lose their jobs.
I wouldn't play for the guy, but I wouldn't play for Rex Ryan either.
Doesn't mean they aren't good at what they do.
Hamilton has already credited Hurdle for his .389 average. Vlad has credited Hurdle with helping rejuvenate his career as well (Although, he has SUCKED in the playoffs).
I will take their word over yours at this point in time.

Maybe not. But Buck and McCarver are miles better than Johnson, Darling and Smoltz. And let's not forget Craig Sager, either.

I'll never forget this moment for as long as I live. Multiple people had better have lost their jobs over that brainfart.

Lee won two of those games...the only ACE....if you watched the TB series, their BATS slept....ZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz....it happens. Yanks have seen all this before....bats go silent and they get out of their game.

Puljos? exaggerate much to stretch for a point??

Hitters Hit (3 out of 10 make you a .300 hitter, agreed).....Hitters get themselves out the clear majority of the time in those remaining 7 (of those 7 outs....statistically speaking a hitter will tell you 4, if not 5, outs were based on their actions not the opposing pitcher....2, max 3, outs they will chalk up to the Pitcher's stuff that day - but like you will hear by almost every play-by-play ex-player (hitter or pitcher) in the booth - often the hitter still had at least 1 pitch in those at bats, that if they are in the "ZONE", they normally dont miss or foul off, etc).

I give credit to the Tex bats right now....

no it isnt a strech I was talking about last night and Wilson, not Lewis....the way those 2 pitched in their games....not many people hit them...bro you can hit a ball that is on the lower outter half of the plate, on the black or just off it...at that point you hope for a mistake pitch something that tails over the middle more....BDH I guess we will agree to disagree........

all I know is all the hired bats, and steroids didnt do anything for the Yankees in the playoffs from 2001-08, until they smartened up and got some guys that could pitch last year...whats the only reason the Sox were in it at all this year...??

Of course good managers lose their jobs but being a hitter coach and being a manager are two different things. A manager can actually effect the outcome of day to day games.

They did but quickly got hired to join the Mets front office. How else would you explain how Jeff Francoeur got over a year's worth of at bats?

You absolutely need both pitching and hitting to get to the playoffs. One without the other will do you no good (see: san diego, arizona).

After the playoffs start, it's almost a crap shoot. The hottest team will win.

The hottest team will win, but that can change at the drop of a hat.
    I agree with the rest.
As somebody else said, having Sandy Kofax or Nolan Ryan does you no good if you can't score any runs.

Like I said I back the truck up for that guy.....but I have to say I dont think they automatically get him...Texas is a solid fit for him, Ryan will spend the cash, they have a nice pitching staff, he can be the ace...I wouldnt be shocked if he stayed there...

Yeah, but the great story is that the Yankees could have EASILY gotten him instead of Texas.
The Rangers gave up..... Justin Smoak and that's about it (Although I like Smoak, Mitch Moreland is filling in with no problems).
Also, I wouldn't sign off on the Rangers just yet.
Ryan and Maddux have both hit it off quite nicely with Mr Lee, AND nobody seems to want to talk about the fact the Texans brand new Braintrust just signed a 3.0 Billion dollar contrat with Fox SW.
They will have their own YES, and the infrastructure is already in place.
Will be interesting, and regardless, Lee is about to be filthy rich.

When was the last time a team outbid the Yankees on a top free agent? Let me know when you think of one and get back to me. There's no way Cliff Lee isn't a Yankee unless he wants no part of playing in New York or Tommy Boy Sternbrenner wants to go cheap on the team now that The Boss moved on.

False. The Rangers package was better than NY's, and that was even while the Yankees were giving up Monterio in the deal....

Right, I understand, and a chief reason I despise the Yankees...not sure a Red Sox fan should be talking though
I do think the Rangers will push the number well into rediculous levels.
Did you not read the part about a 3,000,000,000.00 contract?

and to answer your other question....

2008---A-Rod was the top free agent, but nobody else offered anything on him, nobody wanted him....after him Tori Hunter the top free agent....

I do too...the guy arguably is the best pitcher not named Felix Hernandez and Roy Halladay in baseball, and I believe Ryan will spend the money...I dont agree with the 7 years--20 per though...the guy is 32....I'd do 5(even then I am nervous) years max on Lee...5/110 million, but I picture Lee being aweome until 35, and tappering off SLIGHTLY for the last 2 years....would be 37 at contracts end...if somebody goes higher than 5 years, they got him...IMO...

Hey I'm not complaining by any means, nor was my tone or intension of that post meant to be. I know my team has an advantage over 28 other teams. I simply stating facts. If the Yankees want someone they get him.

The Yankees didn't want Torii Hunter though, they were set in the OF with Damon, Cabrera, Abreu and Matsui. I'm talking about the last time they lost out on a big player they really wanted because another team outbid them. Like, for example, how the Red Sox lost out on Mark Teixeira.

I understand Texas has all of this new money now but they still won't be able to go toe to toe with the Yankees. Heck Sabathia didn't originally want to play for the Yankees but they threw so much money on the table to him that he'd be a fool not to take it.

We would have to be in the know to know that...how do you know what was a bluff and what wasnt RF?? thing is I get it, Yanks have money, they spend it....partly the reason too is they have too....nobody ever wants to trade with them unless it is something so in the other teams favor....i.e....Hughes and Chamberlin for.........how else do you get talent until your younger guys develop...

thank God.....Posada cant block a bowling ball...

Francisco Cervelli is starting behind the plate Tuesday in Game 4 of the ALCS against the Rangers.

Cervelli did not make a start during the ALDS but has a kind of chemistry with Game 4 starter A.J. Burnett. Jorge Posada will ride the bench but is likely to make a pinch-hitting appearance. Lance Berkman is serving as the DH instead of Game 3 designated hitter Marcus Thames.

Right, and I understand that, but I am quite sure that Mr's Greenberg and Ryan can help push that number up, and I love it.
Eventually the ceiling will be met on what they can actually spend.
I mean, the payroll is still only at 206,789,389.00 dollars....but eventually they will get to the point where much more is going out than in.
Cliff Lee might be that straw.
Compare that to the Rangers whom are at 55,000.000.00 and change.

Oh I know, finyank, I know. Why else was there an out clause in Sabathia's contract that he could leave the team after 3 years if he wanted?

Anyway who cares if the Yankees spend money? Seriously, there's no cap and they make a ton of it, why should they not put that money right back into the team? I'll never understand how or why anyone would knock them for doing that. Do you want the owners to simply pocket the money and not care about the produce on the field? Ask Marlin fans how that's working out for them. Money doesn't automatically win you championships, sure it gives you a major advantage but the Yankees aren't winning every year. And teams like Texas, Minnesota, Tampa Bay have shown you can be good without spending a ton. The whole payroll thing is really played out.

I don't really agree that no team trades with the Yankees unless they ask for a lot. The Yankees were handed Kerry Wood and Lance Berkman this year. They got Abreu for nothing. They got Granderson for a song and dance. Teams ask for unreasonable deals/players all the time, it's not just with the Yankees. The Nationals wanted Daniel Bard for Matt Capps in July. The Brewers asked for Matt Cain or Jonathan Sanchez for Corey Hart. It happens, you just hear about it more because you're a Yankee fan. The proposed deals you don't hear about would freaking shock you. Some MLB GMs make a lot of fantasy baseball trade offers.

On that note, go New York!
