Possible Dolphin Moves

Watching Sunday NFL Countdown on my laptop this morning and Schefter had some interesting reports:

    1. The Panthers have refused to trade both DeAngelo Williams and Steve Smith. Apparently they received interest from one team last week but refused.

    2. Shawne Merriman has to released and has said he would either like to play with Miami or Baltimore. If he is released before Tuesday, he is an UFA free to sign with either. If released after Tuesday, he must clear waivers and all indications point to the 49ers winning that claim at 0-5.

    3. The Raiders have placed calls around the league and are shopping their entire roster. Interesting players include CB Chris Johnson and OLB Thomas Howard. Looking at the Phins roster, both of those players seem plausible to fit here while I'm going to speculate on Kamerion Wimbley (20 Tackles, 2 sacks) and Michael Bush (157 yards, 2 TD's) as possible fits.

Any thoughts on these developments? Bearing in mind the Trade Deadline is this Tuesday.

EDIT: I also forgot TE Zach Miller as a possibility.

Waiting on that #2 WR possibility still. Could pay major dividends.

I'd pick up Thomas Howard at the airport if we landed him. Probably the best coverage LB in the NFL. And with Dansby going down with a knee injury (PLEASE don't be serious), we could really use him. Zach Miller I would kill for also. Keep Merriman far, far away from the Dolphins please. Last time I checked roids are still illegal, so no use for that bum on this team.

I know 3 moves they need to make immediately. Cut mcquistan, carpenter and berger. Go out and get grove back.

Apparently we did not watch the same game. McQuistan is a backup to Jerry. Carpenter I don't mind as much. And Berger wasn't bad. All we did was pound the middle and it worked.

If we can get Miller at a reasonable price we should jump at it, guy has the potential to be a top TE with a decent QB. A good pass catching TE is something we are lacking badly and it shows.

We still have a few pieces missing to have a strong roster. I just hope they stay with the youth movement rather than looking for players in the twilight of their careers and the win now attitude at any cost. There are some very good players in place who are young enough to play for Miami for years to come. This being a young team they will get better and better as they learn to play as a unit.

Bush is nicked up to often for my tastes, an what we need imo is a Blocking Te counterpart to Lou Polite, we aren't really mauling on the line of scrimmage as well as they did last season.

Problem with Zach Miller is the way we use the Te, they have to know both the blocking scheme, and the passing offense, that would take weeks to learn, so he would not provide much of a boost.

Johnny Lee Higgins isn't needed as Nolan Carroll really performed well as the Returner in his first real action.

We could probably use a ST gunner, but the Raiders are not really known for that type of player being on their roster.

Berger shouldnt be cut but I agree that he is better as a reserve. Depth on the OL has been a problem

A team doesn't go out and advertise that everyone's available and then part with them for "reasonable" prices. This is the Raiders, they're trying to snooker people. If we come calling about Zach Miller they'll want a 1st round pick.

Anyway I don't think the Dolphins will end up doing anything trade-wise.

But as far as free agency goes there's no reason for Lydon Murtha to be on this team. He is NOT a quality backup Left Tackle. It's one thing if you're putting up with his Special Teams mistakes because he's a good quality backup OT. He's not. He never has been and he never will be.

Also, it's about time we realize that there is no reason for Bobby Carpenter to be involved in ANY special teams assignments. That's three special teams blown assignments in two weeks that have proved costly. Mike Westhoff isn't even our STs Coach, he's coaching the Jets, and he could look at 30 seconds of film and tell right away that Barbie doesn't belong on STs. GET HIM OFF SPECIAL TEAMS. Maybe you don't cut him, I don't know. He's been a pretty bad linebacker altogether so I don't know how uncuttable he could possibly be.

If you're going to make any trade deadline moves I would focus on those two. I doubt there are any great receiving TEs just falling off trees out there so sometimes you gotta aim a little lower...and replacing Lydon Murtha and Bobby Carpenter SHOULD BE doable.
