God damn.... what's the issue? I thought COD: Black Ops was going to be, but it's spread out with different locations and it looks like different time periods as well. Looks like there's only one Nam map ("The Jungle") thus leading me to believe that there will only be one scene or chapter in the single player. I'm disappointed. All I want is a full blown Vietnam next gen experience; the ability to run/be apart of a platoon. I'm tired of these World War, futuristic, and modern war games. Vietnam would easily be the most fun, IMO.... the jungle, bunkers, villages, underground tunnels, random ambushes by VC & NVA, booby traps, etc. I've been searching all of IGN for potential upcoming Vietnam games, but I can't find any that are even in development. WTF? Shellshock: Nam '67 and Conflict: Vietnam were solid games last gen. Battlefield 2 has a Vietnam expansion pack coming, but it's multiplayer only.
They can't market it widescale because it has a lot of negative association for most Americans. America likes to be reminded of winning, not losing, I guess.
That about sums it up IMO. I don't think you'll ever see a Nam based shooter. Maybe bits and pieces, but thats about it. I don't see how you could create a game, and re-create battles from it, and portray the player as an American soldier fighting through and winning the battle. while I Agree it would be a cool concept for a game setting, I just don't see it ever happening. Shooting games are pretty much always based around the playing being on the winning side. Afterall, what's the point in playing the game if you aren't?
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has a Vietnam DLC pack on the way. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgFcJ38-IOc"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgFcJ38-IOc[/ame]
disagree. instead, why not make everything the same, except you control your own destiny? and maybe re-write history. if your good enough would be fun imo
Im a huge fan of the multi-player Battlefield Vietnam. Honestly, I wouldn't be too excited about a single-player experience. I thought it was pretty cool how in MP that each team has completely different weapons and styles on how to play them. Americans had overall, better weapon kits & firepower. Yet the NVA/VC had things like tunnel systems, traps, and generally started off the map in better position. They were severely outmatched by USA air power, but could use sa7(Heat Seekers) when the Americans were abusing it. I am loving the idea that Bad Company 2 is getting a Vietnam expansion, and it will be the sole reason I end up finally getting into BC2(Ive bought every other BF title pre BC). I was very pissed off Dice didnt incorporate playable aircraft in BC2, but the atmosphere & overall gaming experience in this multiplayer setting is too unique to pass up. Everyone always complains about shooters all feeling the same these days, but its hard for anyone to say that about BF:V- even comparing it to BF1942 is quite different. Im not sure how much they can pull off a similar experience using the engine from Bad Company, but I think the biggest downside of the expansion is that we are only getting about 4 maps for it. If they have some remakes from BF:V....Hue, Flaming Dart, Cambodia, Lang Vei would be my choices. That said....I dunno how Flaming Dart would be without the F4-Mig21 battles soaring overhead.
I've never been much of a PC gamer.... but please recommend me something. As I said, growing up watching Tour Of Duty (still watch it; own the dvd set) I'm just dying for a playable Nam experience.
Exactly what I've been hoping for. Might not be on the winning side overall, but to control your own destiny and make it out of Nam as a survivor is a victory in itself.
For PC? Sure. Battlefield: Vietnam is a must get. Not sure how active it is these days but I imagine it's still pretty active. If you're looking for a single player experience, Vietcong and Vietcong 2 are good games. There's also Men of Valor which was a very good game also. Conflict: Vietnam was decent. And then of course there's Line of Sight Vietnam which was also a decent game. You should be able to play most of these on a lower end PC as none of them are really new. Bunch of budget games as well which I wouldn't really recommend.
Thanks.... I've been reading reviews and watching videos on Youtube. I'm definitely going to be getting into Vietcong the next time there's a video game drought (too much out right now). I'm probably just going to buy it now though while it's still available on Amazon. I have a Sony Vaio (Windows Vista) and Macbook Pro (OS X 10.6.4). I think I'm going to need to find a fix for it to work on either computer.
It seems as though most of the companies that produced Vietnam games are dead now.... However, I think the folks behind Vietcong = 2k Czech? They brought the Mafia series back to life after years and years, so here's to hoping for a Vietcong 3 on PS3/360 in 2011 or 2012. I doubt it but you never know. Hopefully the reception of the BFBC2: Vietnam EP is so good that they decide to base the next BFBC2 entirely on Vietnam, or maybe even Battlefield 3.
I doubt we'll see another Vietnam game from Battlefield, but I suppose it's possible. As for a VC3, it's possible. Would love if it happened, VC1 was a great game and VC2 was good also.
Im just hoping that if it does well enough they will put out more maps/expansions via Vietnam.....unlike them hanging us out to dry with Battlefield 1943.
The multiplayer of BF:BC2 has playable aircraft although it is limited to a few variations of helicopters. As a whole DICE limited some of the variations of vehicles and stationary weapons in the game as opposed to BC1 but overall I think BC2 multiplayer is better than BC1. In other news, BF:BC2 Vietnam will be great.
I would like to see a Vietnam game come out. Maybe a story something along the lines of Apocalypse Now with crazy scenes, interactions and dialogue.
Project Reality: Vietnam www.realitymod.com Project Reality is a mod for Battlefield 2 that focuses on realism. Shot deviation, building advanced outposts, working in teams (you can only spawn at main, a forward outpost, or a squad rally point), dedicated pilots for continuous insertion/extraction, and that is all on the surface. Example, a pilot must use a Pilot class, armed only with a side arm, so really, all they do is fly all round. You want a pick up, call it in and puff colored smoke and the helos should come and get you if it is safe. If it isn't you have to hit up the enemies AA position to get extraction or hoof it on foot to your next objective. Project Reality is pretty damned awesome, and they have a modern version and are now developing a Vietnam version. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9XiGa5WBLs"]YouTube - Project Reality: Vietnam Mod Trailer - HD[/ame] Oh yeah, Project Reality is free. You just need Battlefield 2 which is about $15 or so. www.realitymod.com
Good call on that. Project Reality is the shiz. I think the best chance at a Vietnam game for consoles is COD though. Wouldn't surprise me at all being they already have 4 WW2 games and 2 modern war games. Time to try something new. And Vietnam and a futuristic shooter would certainly be something new.
COD doesnt have the vehicle element though, the ones that have done it in the past were all lacking as well. I think the best route has to be Bad Company 2 Vietnam expansion. It has destructible environments & much more to work with when it comes to textures, animations, and models. Im also a big fan of Project Reality though, and it certainly looks fun. The only problem I can see with Bad Company 2:Vietnam, is that its only launching with 4 maps....and they have yet to announce whether or not we will be seeing future map packs for the expansion. If they did so, I would be absolutely hooked as long as they use the classic BFV maps.
Yea that would be a good route to go if they add maps in the future. Loved some of the maps in BF:V. For the record, there are some Vietnam games for the original Xbox that are compatible with the 360. Those games are, Vietcong: Purple Haze and Shellshock: Nam '67. Sadly Men of Valor isn't.
