Probably commenting on the quality of the camera itself.

Besides, it's Gizmodo. They're anti-Apple, commenters and staff alike. The bias is so thick you can cut it with a chainsaw. Engadget is a little better. GDGT is good too.

It looks like the iPod Touch's camera isn't as good as the iPhone 4's camera, because the case is thinner and thus there's less room for a bigger lens. Quality should be fine, but it's not as high resolution as the iPhone 4's

3G or 3GS? The 3G is two years old, you should be eligible for an upgrade. I was on the 3GS but AT&T allowed upgrades to the iPhone 4 pretty broadly.

Your best bet is to call AT&T and see what they say.

In that case, it depends on when you activated the contract.

Really, your best bet is to call AT&T and find out what they'll allow. They have a financial interest in selling selling iPhones and retaining customers.

Again, call. AT&T treats the iPhone differently because it's a huge money maker. They've usually allowed upgrades with as much as a year left on an old contract, sometimes even more.

Seriously, call. Ask. Should take 10 minutes at most.

iPhone is usually a yearly upgrade if you're getting another iPhone.

Got my free case last week (at last). Speck. Like a plaid-patterned back.

    http://www.igear360.com/2010/07/28/review-speck-fitted-case-for-the-apple-iphone-4/

It's not bad. Changes the hand feel and look a bit. Less sleek and futuristic.

My gf got the insight clear plastic case. Hers maintains the minimal looking profile and silhouette of the phone, and surprisingly has a GREAT non-slip handfeel despite being clear shiny plastic.

First, upgrade to 4.1 through iTunes.

Second, yes. Jailbreaks for 4.1 are out.

Edit: Note to mods, Jailbreaking has been declared legal under fair use by the Library of Congress. So don’t delete this post please.

i'm sorry, i cant read through all these posts...i have the 3GS. Is the 4 finally "fixed" and working properly, talk quality wise? Are the bugs out, or is it wise just to stick with the 3GS for now?

The iPad being sold through Verizon increases the likelihood that Verizon is getting the iPhone. Still not a sure bet in my view, but it definitely appears that a CDMA version iPhone is coming out.

I see that Greenp0ison doesn't work for mac... do you think limera1n would be an acceptable substitute?

Huh? Greenpois0n works on the Mac just fine. What’s the problem? If it’s not working, try opening iTunes before beginning the process. And if there’s a point in the process where you hold the sleep/wake (power) and home buttons, but let go of the sleep/wake button, then you keep holding the home button until the process is finished.

And Greenpois0n is based on Limera1n, which is Windows only as far as I know.

Since the focus of the October 20 conference is the Mac and OS X 10.7, there’s practically no chance that Apple will announce a Verizon iPhone then.

Either get the Droid, wait until January when the rumor says the Verizon iPhone will come out, or just get the AT&T iPhone.

Speaking about that...I think people need to temper their expectations with the benefits of the Verizon network. The world has yet to develop a "perfect" cellular network. There's going to be problems with that network, especially with the new customers running over to the network because of AT&T hysteria. The network has gotten much better on AT&T from the start of the iPhone era. There's cities where A&TT is a problem. I've heard SFO has poor AT&T coverage. In those places, I understand the need to switch. Unless the problems are DRAMATIC, I highly recommend people with iphones or iPads right now remain with their current products and don't buy a new unit solely because of hearsay that Verizon will be better.

Please proceed with caution, is all I'm saying.

Yeah it really depends on where you are. Verizon generally gets more coverage in rural areas. In Boston, I found that I had much better service with ATT before getting Verizon. At my current location (Hampton Roads, VA) I had no reception with ATT but great reception with Verizon, however I find the sound quality on Verizon is awful compared to ATT (could be my phones).

Very true. Though to be fair, the iPhone won’t be as big a burden on Verizon as it is on AT&T, because not all current AT&T users will switch to Verizon. Likewise, the departing users will make things easier on the remaining AT&T customers. Also, Verizon has supposedly been working on upgrades in preparation for Apple’s arrival for nearly a year. Supposedly.

Anyway, Todd Bishop caught something interesting:

Maybe this Verizon iPhone thing really is happening in January.
