http://www.gizmocrunch.com/games/3840-netflix-ps3-1080p-dolby-surround-disc Im CRAZY stoked about this! A few key points 1. NO DISC for instant streaming! 2. Full 1080p! 3. Redesigned interface (the other was slow IMO) 4. 5.1 Dolby surround sound 5. It doesn't sound like a harrier taking off while you watch a movie! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
No, it was in reference to the 360's ridiculously loud fan. My brother has a 360 and PS3 side by side and it's not even a choice on which to watch a movie or netflix on....the PS3 runs incredibly quite in comparison to teh 360.
****ing sweet. i thought they were upgrading their movie selection soon too? something to do with lions gate films and a bunch of other companies becoming available on netflix streaming? any word on that or just starz play?
Good deal. I've been using Xbox for a while now b/c I didn't want to use a disc. Now I can run it on the quieter console.
They signed a 1 billion dollar deal with lionsgate, paramount, and tri-star about a month ago I believe. They already have the Star Treks on there...I think they're owned by paramount. The deal was that yeah, they'll be getting a lot more streaming movies..and newer ones. They'll be allowed to stream movies 3 months after they're out on DVD (not immediately) from those companies if memory serves me.
I just hope the disc still works after the update. If it doesn't... I'll have a reason to go get one of these.
FYI guys....just got this email today......sounds bomb ***.... Dear Michael, You no longer need the instant streaming disc to instantly watch with your PS3™ system. To watch instantly via your PS3 without the disc: 1) Go to the PlayStation® Network section of the main menu. 2) Simply install Netflix from the "What's New" area. That's it. There's no need to send the disc back to Netflix. Enjoy! –Your friends at Netflix
So glad I finally bought a PS3 when the Slim came out. Seems like I got it just as Sony is on the upclimb with the console. Plus I use it mostly for movies than gaming anyways.
Netflix instant streaming without the disc should be available for every PS3 owner by now. It showed up my in XMB earlier.
Go to the menu screen, sign into Playstation Network using your login/password (if you dont have one create it), go to the What's New area, and give it a minute for the Netflix box to appear....download, and enjoy...... It took like 3 minutes to download and install quick quick....easy easy... pretty cool too....
I installed mine yesterday. I haven't used it yet though. My only potential concern is that my PS3 tends to have a problem keeping me logged on to PSN for some reason. I hate you get an error and get signed out just for restarting a game or something. If I start losing my connection while I'm watching stuff it will be back to the Xbox pretty quickly.
Same thing happens to me. But I think Netflix has an independent connection to the internet (at least if it works like the disc did). The PS3 (unlike the 360) does not require access to PSN to get internet.
I get the same thing on mine, two different models. Anyway I installed an had no problems through a few movies. Never really had an issue with the streaming disc either though.
