This is one of those myths that need to just end.... he had one season where he missed significant time due to a freak injury. People have to realize that an NBA season is 82 games.... players are going to miss games, especially when you play as relentless and care free as Dwyane Wade does. The guy throws his body around on a nightly basis like the Kardashians.

Might as well pencil the Heat in, then.

The Heat has a feeling of inevitability. They are GOING to win a championship. It is a matter of wether they win this year that makes it interesting.

The Dolphins are hugging 40 ****ing YEARS without ONE.

People tire after a while. The younger generation only knows a perennial disappointing Dolphin franchise.

The last 10 years has been difficult.

Nah, I think the Lakers can knock off Miami this time through possibly and if they do I think the Dolphins could be a juggernaut by this time next season, though the Dolphins do have work to do.

Totally agreed on all points. The Heat ARE going to win at least 1, probably 2-4 with that trifecta. If they get a good center then we may as well cancel the NBA for the next seven years.

The centers the Heat have now are fine. All they need to do is defend, clear the lane when Wade or LeBron charge the basket, and dunk the occasional alley-oop.

The centers the heat have now are below average offensively and above average defensively. My statement was in regards to getting a center who is actually a good two way player who is at least average offensively and still above average defensively

Which center? Joel Anthony? Ilgauskas? Magloire?

I don't think you can win a championship with that kind of style. Not every team are gonna let Wade and/or Lebron charge up to the basket, especially in the playoffs. Prepare to see zone defense all season long

Zone defense? That is what all our shooters are for.

Can't get into a zone defense when LeBron, Wade, and Bosh are going baseline to baseline in 4 seconds. They will fastbreak the **** out of everyone.

I'm a Cavs fan so I am just giving a general sports opinion as I don't know enough about the sports climate in Miami, but -

I don't think LeBron will be bigger than Marino for the sole fact that he won't be there for a majority of his career. He already spent a large portion of his career (the younger years when fans really latch on to players) in Cleveland.

He will come to Miami and win 3-4 championships, but will that build HIS legacy in Miami or Wade's?

And I know many will disagree, but I think this team is built for the short term. The will be DOMINANT for the next 5 years, but, IMO, the odds of them sticking together after these 5 yr deals is slim to none. Rarely do you see stars of this magnitude stick together and not try to branch out. And LeBron has already left once - in 5 years when Wade's health is deteriorating and Bosh is getting to be on the wrong side of 30, it isn't far fetched to think he'll try to team up with some younger talent and extend his chances to win championships.

So no, I don't think LeBron will be bigger than Marino for the sole fact that he is more like a hired hand in Miami and not the local hero.

I could definitely see a case for Wade if his body holds up and he has a prominent role on 3-4 championship teams.

(Yes, I am a Cavs fan - but please read the post. I did not bash LeBron in any way. The line about him leaving to team up with younger stars and build another dynasty isn't a slap in the face to Heat fans - just a very real possibility. He has spoken at length about how the great teams in the past had 2-3 hall of fame players. He loves the history of the game and it wouldn't surprise me to see him make a move to NY, Bos or LA to finally hit that larger market and cement his place on a historic NBA franchise.)

In 5 years..Bosh will not be on the wrong side of 30. he will be just starting his 30's.

    NOBODY ever leaves this place.

Sorry...we got him for the rest of his career.

The team is even built to add a MAX contract to go with Bron and Bosh when Wade retires...

    Riley is brilliant.

I think its difficult to compare the legacies at this point. Marino is an icon but a good 25% - 50% of the fans are too young to have more than vague memories of his playing days. Wade, on the other hand, is in his prime. Also football has always been king in Miami, but at the moment the Heat is huge and the Dolphins are fresh off two prime time losses to division rivals. So any comparison at this point is colored by the current and possibly short-term environment.

Looking forward, I could see LBJ surpassing Wade, Shula and Marino if there is a run of Chicago/Jordan style dominance and after that run (5 years or so) the younger LBJ would continue to succeed either as the clear dominant player or after Wade leaves.

I also don't know if the three will stay together beyond 5 years. But I wouldn't consider that short term. In sports terms that is an epoch.

I'm not saying that - I'm saying that in 5 years, the Heat probably won't offer the best opportunity for LeBron to extend his string of championships and it is very possible he will jump ship. Especially if that means going to a bigger market like New York or Los Angeles.

In five years, we will have money for a max contract to put beside Lebron.

    he will be fine.

he already had a chance to sign with a "bigger" market and he decided to wipe his *** with that notion.

You stumbled over my point and kept going. The Heat don’t need a great offensive center, just a solid defensive center. That’s exactly what they have.

The last thing this roster needs in order to win is 20 PPG from the starting center. It’s irrelevant. The team isn’t built to need it. As long as the centers play tough defense, get out of Wade and LeBron’s way, help Bosh with the rebounding, and block a shot here and there, that’s all they need.

Points will come from SG, SF, PF, both starters and depth. Notice how the Heat have loaded up on high percentage shooters as backups.

I don’t know if this thread makes me want to smoke a cig in bed or take painkillers. Maybe a little of both.

I didnt stumble over your point. You say all they need is a solid defensive center which they have. I agree with that. But if you could upgrade and make it even harder to beat your team, why wouldnt you? You dont need another 20PPG guy but if you could grab an available Eric Dampier who is better then what you have or trade for someone when the right deal comes, why wouldnt you?

I agree with the rest of what you have said. I never disagreed. I just dont see why you wouldnt continue to further enhance your team? :wink2:

Dampier is not a must-get, nor would he be a major improvement.

Because the type of player you’re describing isn’t necessarily an improvement on this team, in this system, with these players. A case could be made for improving the point guard position, but the Heat are okay with their current centers.

Lakers won with a dominant Big man in Shaq.

And now they are winning with a pretty damn good one in Bynum.

The lakers are a inside out team.

only time will tell if lebron becomes the biggest star in Miami. Its hard to believe the Heat not winning at least 1 championship but I think Lebron can become the greatest Miami sport star if they make a run of 3+ straight championship pretty much making a dynasty.
