OK, I am a huge JT fan. I even became a defensive end in high school just so i could be like him. Anyways I woke up thinking about a trade involving JT. I don't know what Jt is worth, but would you guys like a trade that sent Jt over to Chicago for Lance Briggs? Can we get more than lance? I have no idea, but hes not that expensive and is way younger and will solidify our lbs with crowder porter and briggs and also Thomas who doesnt have much longer. What do you all think. Im not saying we do this, just a thought I had when I woke up this morning.
I have no idea about the numbers involved, but I would probably do it. Honestly though, I would still rather get a draft pick. I'm convinced someone will part with a late first for him, nearly everyone that could afford him would offer their second
I don't see how this helps the team. Briggs will command a lot of money and won't be as versatile as JT.
Briggs got franchise tagged. I don't know if he signed a thing to make sure he's an UFA after this season.
Briggs doesn't want to play in a 3-4 with his next team. If we're a 3-4, which i have no clue if we even are anymore, then Briggs isnt an option.
No, he's not. He plays WLB in a system friendly to the position, and he plays next to Brian Urlacher. Combine that with his drunk driving incident earlier this year and he's the next Cato June. He'll land a good contract, but nothing eye-popping. The mega-contract will go to Asante Samuel.
I prefer to Google "Cato June Tampa Bay contract." Its results are far more relevant than your attempted application of economic rules. So, why is Cato June relevant to Lance Briggs' free agency ambitions? Well, Cato June and Lance Briggs are about equivalent. They both made their names in the Cover 2--Briggs for Chicago, June for Indianapolis--and both play the same position, weakside linebacker. Cato June hit free agency last year at a time when some truly mega-contracts were handed out, Nate Clements' deal chief among them. The market Cato June entered is similar to the market that Lance Briggs will be entering. Cato June, a well-regarded linebacker who didn't benefit from playing next to Brian Urlacher, landed only $12 million over three years from a team with a GM and coach who were slated to be fired at the end of this year if they didn't succeed. Think about that: in the desperation of Jon Gruden and Bruce Allen to keep their jobs beyond 2007, they give Cato June a contract with a total value of $12 million--he won't even sniff all $12 million. This is the same desperate team that signed Jerramy Stevens! For reference: in the same free agency period, we gave Joey Porter $32 million dollars, $20 million guaranteed. Here's your supply and demand application: the supply of Lance Briggs is at maximum, with 100% capacity expected to hit the market on March 1, 2008. The demand, however, is extremely low. There simply are not that many teams willing to give a lot of money to a Cover 2 WLB at a time when the position is considered plug-and-play. Asante Samuel will land a mega-contract. Nnamdi Asomugha, if the Raiders don't franchise him, will land a mega-contract. Marcus Trufant will land a fairly large contract, though not nearly as large as the aforementioned two CBs. The total value of Lance Briggs' deal won't even approach the guaranteed money in Marcus Trufant's deal.
Briggs will be signed on the eve of FA Cato June signed with the Bucaneers 17 days into FA here is my demand forecast(much better than yours):
Peter King's salary cap projections are just that: salary cap projections. A team with a lot of cap room is in no way obligated to sign Lance Briggs to a huge deal. In fact, the only team in the top ten I can see being vaguely interested in Briggs, simply out of necessity, is Cincinnati. They have NOTHING at linebacker. Tennessee, Buffalo, and New Orleans are all conceivably in the market for a top-flight cornerback. Coincidentally, at least two will be available. Tennessee also has to decide if they want to get into a bidding war over Albert Haynesworth. Briggs won't get much money.
http://football.about.com/od/nationalfootballleague/a/freeagentLB.htm this guy had Briggs rated #1, only a mere 9 spots higher than June keep flailing though
Wow. About.com says that Lance Briggs is better than Adalius Thomas. That settles it! Lance Briggs will get $50 million guaranteed! There are only three things that matter in free agency: the GM's opinion, the agent's opinion, and the player's opinion. You can pull out rating guide after rating guide, and it simply will not change the fact that a Cover 2 WLB is not going to make much money in free agency. I provided a recent real-world example of what a good Cover 2 WLB has done in free agency. Cato June has a leg up on Lance Briggs in that he did not play next to Brian Urlacher. You are pulling out ratings guides and guesses as to what Lance Briggs' value may or may not be. Come back with solid factual proof on Lance Briggs' chances at big money and we'll continue this. Otherwise, enough. I'm not going to keep up an argument with someone who considers a quick copy-and-paste to be a legitimate debate tactic.
Briggs is a good linebacker, but not what we need on defense though. If we're going hard after a defensive FA this year, let it be one of the top CB's. I don't think Clements was worth 80 million, but i won't deny the impact he's had for that defense either. Teams don't pass on the niners very well and hes the biggest part of it. And surprise surprise, teams can't pass on the niners and Patrick Willis looks amazing cause all teams do is try to run on them. IF we can sign a guy like Samuals, our front 7 strategy will change dramatically.
I don't like the 3-4 seems that you can only draft certain types of players and have to pass on good ones because they don't fit into the 3-4 scheme
your suppositions are not even close to fact sorry can't wait for March 1, how do you like your crow served?
I agree with you wholeheartedly. I hate the idea of passing on a guy like Dorsey only causes he's not a "3-4 guy." In fact, i think "3-4 guy" is probably my most hated phrase on the face of the planet.
I think you are right. Big Contract Wrong side of 30 and now is showing it. I would bet at best a 3rd.
So we get a DT who can't even stay on the field long enough with his conditioning issues and is essentially a younger Dan Wilkinson? No thanks.
JT trade I say keep JT but if he wants to be traded, trade him to Cincy for Chad Johnson. This would give us a legitmate number one reciever and we desperatly need one. It would make life so much easier for any Qb that starts for us next year.
Listen guys i Didn't mean for this to become and argument just stated something That I woke up thinking. Let's not get piss each other off. As far as d hall. I say we trade our number 1 for d hall and they're number 1 plus something else. I dunno the numbers but that would be cool plus trade Jt for something..Im drunk again sorry for not making sense. I love the dolphions
