I got this a few nights ago. Just got around to trying it. Didnt really put it through the ringer, but feels solid. Of course the new Heat is my big smiling point. Interestingly enough they're still rated 2nd under the Lakers.
nah... Not really interested in pretending i'm jordan in his career. Always seemed like a gimmicky feature imo
How about a review? I'm interested in how buggy the game is. 2K10 was so buggy you couldn't even play it online before they patched it. Looks like it's going to be the 5th year in a row I go with 2K over EA. The NBA Elite 11 demo was so terrible EA has delayed the release of the game.
Later tonight I'll give it some real time. I'm also gonna host a little tourney this weekend with the boys (it's $10 buy in of anyone is near the area lol). Basically we do a tourny when it's new because nobody knows how to play. You might argue that I was able to practice... Then I'll lose in the first round and you'll realize I'm actually terrible at video games
i've just finished playing this for the past four hours or so. some impressions: pros: the jordan features are pretty cool. basically you have ten challenges to complete. i did the first where i had to score 63 points, 6 assists and shoot 50% vs the '86 celtics. the challenges move in chronological order, so the 86 jordan wore the old shoes, had hair, stuck his tongue out and couldn't shoot well. after completing a challenge you get an unlockable (i got some card that allowed me +2 SOD whenever i use it). if you complete all ten you get some unlockable game mode. they have special cinematics (or cut scenes) involving jordan. the commentators talk about the season of the particular challenge, and the starts are from that season. they made me sound like i was an up and coming star. also the presentation has improved. things like "player of the game" highlights are broken down into points, assists, etc., with "flashy" graphics to go with each category. they have highlights in between quarters and during the half. other aspects of the presentation and interface have improved as well. other pros: rodman has multi-colored hair. the old coaches are with the old rosters (i.e. jackson on the bulls, adleman on the blazers) and old nicknames are used like "the chief," "human highlight reel," etc. wilkins does lots of windmill dunks from the baseline. you can see the jordan jersey in the american airlines arena. there are not many bugs at all, but i didn't try going online with this. on defense, if you are in a zone, there is an arrow on your player that tells you where to go. cons: while i love having these old teams, i do miss having all-star players like chamberlain, russell, etc the blacktop court is the same court from 2k10, but it is at night, and the only light comes from car headlights, and some random spot light. i think this is not only stupid, but ugly. not many else. the jordan features might actually keep me playing this game. otherwise, it feels very much like the game i've been playing the past eleven years. oh yeah and the sound track is the worst in the franchise. a lot of whiney rock and rap about marrying women. the one redeeming song is artest's champion. pic of me as spud webb dunking on terry porter:
Hey mor, this is off-topic but...do you know how I could possibly get Fallout: New Vegas early? You always get games early so I thought you might have an idea. I haven't played my 360 or PS3 in months I NEED a game to play.
New Vegas is DLC. If it does drop early, it'll be jtag only... Which is getting harder and harder to come by Edit: Just realized that it's a stand alone disc. I'll let you know when I know
lol at ea: "nba 2k11 has jordan, elite has jesus" leave it to ea to have "jesus" in the game a week before the release: YouTube - NBA ELITE 11 HAS JESUS CHRIST/ DEMO GAMEPLAY PS3 "jesus" pops up around 3:00, but the whole video is full of bugs: YouTube - NBA ELITE 11 DEMO GAMEPLAY PS3 the game has been pulled indefinitely . . .
i've been playing this some more. other thoughts about the game: franchise mode has some new practice improvements. you can do things like intrasquad scrimmages. you can change the draft order in a fantasy draft, so you can have the first pick. for fantasy drafts, there are the fixed order and serpantine drafts. i haven't bothered to do any scouting. you can choose the arena music (from your hard drive). the "el heat" jerseys are in the game. pressing the left trigger on defense reduces your turbo meter and stamina (not sure if this was in 2k10). i've done some more jordan challenges, and find them to be actually pretty fun. playing as one character, that changes as the challenges progress, reminds me of non-sports video games. i still haven't noticed any bugs (once again, i'm playing offline).
So I'm curious. Is it possible to use the old school Bulls or Trailblazers in exhibition games or are they only in the Jordan moments?
There's 18 throw back teams from that era. Several different Bulls and Blazers lineups. If you have a specific year in mind, i'll look to see if they're in.
That 96-97 is the one I was wondering about. My buddy wanted to be them vs the Heat so I was curious if that can be done
I guess the only other question I have is how far back do the teams go? Is there any Chamberlain or Magic and Karim?
Finally played my first game. Played the 97 Jazz.. Won the game 98-83 but Karl Malone completely dominated down low. Digging this game.
Is it just me or is dribbling super hard in this game... Can't do isomotion and break free from the defender to save my life.
Another gripe I have about this game... How the hell do you do regular layups? Is there a reason every time I drive to the hoop Evan Turner does a front-flip 360 between the legs behind the back double clutch layup that then gets swatted to the 7th row of the crowd.....
Depends who you are using. The isomotion is tough to get a handle on b/c there are such a variety of moves, but I was breaking down Pierce with LBJ every time down the court. Not so much with Mike Miller
This exceeds NFL 2k5 as the greatest sports video game of all time and I don't think anything comes even close. Hats off to 2k for making a hell of a game.... hats off for the Jordan Challenge which is awesome (hope it gets updated with more challenges in the future).... hats off for SIMULATION MODE which is as realistic as realism gets in basketball.... hats off for the best presentation a video game has ever seen (come on TNT, sign on for NBA 2k12!!!!).... I can continue if you guys want me to. Since NBA 2k7 I've been playing on the hardest difficulty level with OS simulation sliders and whooping *** in association mode. Now, I'm stuck on All Star/Simulation with the Miami Heat and I'm actually being taken down to the wire by the teams that should take me down to the wire. Loving it. There's a really nice balance. Lakers beat my Heat in LA by 7 in the first exhibition game I played, and I followed that up by beating them in Miami by 4. Started my association where Orlando took me down to the last few possessions, and Boston's defense is noticeably tougher to get easy baskets on than any of the other teams I've played. I'm 4-0 so far, but it hasn't been an easy 8-0. Only one blow out (torched New Jersey by 31). I was up 22 on Philly deep into the third quarter before Evan Turner went on a hot streak of his own and made it a competitive finish. What am I going to do this semester? I can't put my joystick down.... I was hooked on FIFA 11 but I can't see myself touching that game (which is great BTW) for at least 3-4 months. EA Sports better catch up and balance it out by making Madden 12 the greatest football game ever.
I played the '96-97 Bulls with the '10-11 Heat and Jordan hit a fade away at the buzzer to send it into OT, and I just couldn't get a stop in OT.... he had 46 points. Greatest defeat ever! I was leading most of the way in regulation until he took over. I don't think he passed the ball once in the final 4-5 possessions. And in real life.... in that situation.... I wouldn't expect him to. Dennis Rodman is a ****ing monster on the glass. My God. I think he had 21 rebounds or so.
Now I'm just spamming.... but for all of you people out there who are looking for realistic stats and scores in association mode: 10 min. quarters Pro/Simulation Is your best bet. If you actually run plays like I do (sometimes), I'd bump it up a notch to All Star/Simulation. This is the first 2k game that doesn't require sliders to enjoy a realistic basketball experience, although the fast break is completely broken and is the only thing that needs to be tweaked. Default mode isn't even that bad.... just not enough fouls.
