Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that VD was kind of invisible tonight? He had 1 tackle (which i didnt even realize till i looked up the stats online) and he hurried Sanchez to almost throwing that pick to Allen! Other than that i dont even remember hearing the announcers mention him all night!

Because JAllen played well last week, did we move him to the #1 CB spot for tonight. It seemed that Allen was always on there #1 guy. Maybe we just didnt hear much because he had his side locked down and Sanchez knew better than to throw that way.....

Just wondering if I was the only one thinking about this?

not hearing a cornerbacks name is almost always good. i think they were throwing away from him. only time i can remember was the first play of the game. He's a beast.

I agree with KING FELIX I think its good we don't hear him, it means he's not getting beat. But i saw a few nice tackles. On the field for the most part the Jets stayed away from him IMO on important downs. Its a credit to the Vontae that we didn't see him as much.

i lik:hi5: Vontaes inferno rocks this secondary world lol

Oh I agree completely that not throwing his way is a big compliment to his skill, however its like taking your Ferrari to the drag strip and everyone saying "oh im not even gonna try to race that Ferrari, theres no point"! I really wanna drive the crap outta that Ferrari and smoke people. I just wish they would have thrown his way so he could have either force some key 3 and outs or made them pay for doing it.

I think Allen has come along way and i like his development, but think i still woulda rather had Davis on Edwards in some of those key situations.

Man that was a nerve racking, seat clinching game though!

Thats a good thing. He wasnt involved much because his WR wasnt involved at all. Vontae just shut his guy down, Sanchez and the Jets probably knew better than to test him.

The Jets though did a good job moving their guys around and getting Edwards on Allen though.

As has been mentioned, not hearing a CB's name is 95% of the time a good thing. He didn't do anything to win the game, but he didn't do anything to lose the game. The problem with saying "Vontae should be on their #! guy" is that the entire point of an offense is to create mis-matches. Pre snap movement, different formations, disguising play calls, all tactics to get their #1 WR on our #2 CB. It just worked out better for them tonight. The REAL question I have for Mike Nolan and Tony Sparano is, knowing that Edwards was out the first quarter, why did we leave Yeremiah Bell on an island against Dustin Keller so many times?

We need to start putting Davis on the other teams #1 and let him shadow that WR all game long. Make them beat us with other weapons. But on a side note, we did have the chance to win this game and didn't. Glad the offense showed signs of life.

The Dolphins don't move their corners. Vontae is on the left, Allen is on the right. I understand they're not trying to overload these young players. But like Joe Rose said this morning, you wonder if they're going to change that with Randy Moss coming to town.

You saw Cromartie following Marshall. I'd like to see Vontae do it.

I've always wondered, is that because we play so much zone coverage?

Not really. They could have Vontae line up on his side out of the huddle and still play zone (like Cromartie did). As we saw with Marshall, one way to combat it -- assuming the corners are playing zone -- is to put that man in motion.

The explanation last year was that they didn't want to overload our young corners too much.

It was like that because the Jets only threw his way 1 time the whole game. How do you take away the best player on the field? You don't go his way at all.

Sanchez never threw to his side, its as simple as that.

Look at Jerricho Cotchery's stats. Now understand why you didn't hear Vontae's name.

    Boston, MA...
This is why Asomugha does not get as much press as Revis...I still think Nnamdi is the better CB albeit older...but that is an argument for another day. Look at the comments Favre made and you will find the answer. The Asomugha point is one in the same...if you got a good CB on one side and a toss up on the other you will test the "toss up." We were doing the same with Kris Wilson when we picked on him all half while he was covering the WRs and switched over to Fasano in the second half. Matchups are key.

That's three straight games for Vontae Davis. Three straight games where he locked his man down completely.

You will only hear his name when he comes up and makes a huge tackle, or the QB is dumb enough to throw the football in his direction.

Its pretty easy to make a CB a non-factor. That's why I don't believe that CBs are the impact players they used to be. They've been replaced by Ss in that regard. So either due to reputation or just by good play I think the Jets avoided Davis. I do wonder if Davis will be moved around eventually, but my guess is that they won't change for this game.
