Jets defense has allowed 12 points per game. Their offense has scored 18.5 points per game.

Our defense has allowed 10 points per game. Our offense has scored 14.5 points per game.

This is definitely not a perfect science, but this is the way i see it. The only thing that's consistent with the above stats is that we only give up 10 points. therefore the jets will only score 10 on us.

If they give up 12 points and we're use to scoring 14.5 i think we'll score 14.

So my prediction is Dolphins 14 Jets 10. Unless our offense snaps into it. Then it will be Dolphins 31 Jets 10. Either way we win! so you guys can quit stressing over it! lol

I think we get 1 win against the Jets in Week 3. That stat would be nice.

9 of our points came from the Opponents mistakes..:D

Eh, last yr out of the box the offence struggled, going into the Jest game which was Henne 2nd start, the offence had been bad:

    Gm #1 7 pts
Gm #2 23 points (the colts game)
    Gm #3 13 points
    Gm #4 38 pts

It typically takes the offence a couple of weeks to iron everything out, but once they do it really starts rolling that is what makes 2-0 so nice.

I don't want to nitpick, but 2 points in the Buffalo game came from a safety and 7 in the Minn came from a fumble recovery in the endzone. The Miami offense is actually averaging 10 points per game. So I guess we can look for a tie. :shifty:

that's true. but that just means that we can count on the defense for 4.5 points. my prediction still stands! lol

if our offense is good for 10, the jets D will give us 2 points and our defense is good for another safety. mia 14 jets 10.

The sample size (2 games) is way to small to draw a meaningful conclusion. Plus, we played the Bills...who by any objective measure suck.

Not to mention a seriously rusty Vikings offense and the abysmal Bills, so no need to get excited just yet....

Exactly and we promise not to get too excited about beating the Pats 28-14.

Of course, we can all agree that the Pats will destroy the Bills on Sunday.

This thread is a SABR nerd's nightmare.

My next statement is also a pet peeve of a statistical analyst or anyone who follows trends in sports: Throw the stats out the window for this game. They mean nothing.

Take last year's game; the Jets were shutting down everyone up until playing us. Then they come in and their defense gets throttled, man-handled, embarrassed... Dong-slapped across the face if you will.

I think we know two things: This game will be close, and it will be violent.

hmm, we will see about the Pats and Bills, with Faulk and Maroney gone, who exactly is going to run the ball effectively?

And the Bills seem to play harder with Fitzpatrick at Qb.

I was going to say almost the exact same thing....look at all the horrible Dolphins and Jets teams over the past few decades where the stats heavily favored one or the other, and then look at the final scoreboard. They were almost all close games.

This will be a battle, but we have home field advantage and we haven't unleashed the true '10 Wildcat formations or let Henne get a little more agressive (because really...we haven't had to).

I predict 31-7 Fins with a defensive TD somewhere along the line. Everyone in Miami is so pumped for this game and the crowd is going to energize the stadium.....four more days until the true Dolphins coming out party starts!

You started out good and then contradicted yourself with that 31-7 proclamation. What have you seen out of your offense that makes you truly believe they are going to put up 31 (well, 24) on the Jets?

I've seen a team that has led for eight consecutive quarters playing very conservative football, which presents a very unique scenario that normally doesn't happen in these matchups.

The Jets have spent the week preparing how to move the ball against our D, and their defense has been formulated around a running game with conservative, high percentage passes. That's not at all what we're going to see.

When we first introduced the Wildcat against the Pats a few years ago we ran up the score almost without trying, and I truly believe that we'll see Thigpen in Wildcat formation some this week plus Henne gunning a few more passes deep.

you guys can be harsh sometimes. i said it wasn't an exact science and it was what i thought would happen. i like to be optimistic and i tend to say things to get a good laugh. watch it come true though. it would be amazing to hold 3 nfl teams to exactly 10 points. i'm confident in that prediction even though i know dolphins vs jets and dolphins vs pats games are un-predictable. i think our defense can be predictable throughout the whole season though if they keep playing like they've been playing. one things for sure is that our offense is un-predictable but they're on the rise. the offense will continue to get better and better.

Fair enough. I hope Ryan has some sort of answer to wildcat. The last time they played, the Miami offense didn't do much (9 points and 104 total net yards). Then again, that was at the Meadowlands and not at home. Also, you now have Marshall and Henne has another year under his belt. I guess we'll see.

OUr offense has not scored 14.5 points per game. Our offense has scored 10 points per game. Two TDs, two field goals.

EDIT: I Guess that' been covered. So if we can get some defensive scoring going, we're in good shape. :D

Miami by three, unless Miami by more than three
well, Miami by three, touchdowns or points
at any rate, we win the game & beat them up doing it
