I never really had an opinion on JA, but I could also say that this happens all the time. Some people turn out to be who you thought they were, and some dont. Just because some people were right on JA, doesnt mean they are always right. Im just glad hes on our team and stepping up!
there were a few of us {very few} that didn't jump off when people were raggin him...the reason why I didn't is because I wanted him to switch to corner 2 years ago, and applauded the coaches for the move, I wrote that his athleticism and body type would be much better at corner than safety, I thought he was to small jointed, and to thin thru the hips to last at safety, especially the way he played.. He played an outstanding football game...and iam happy for that dude..quiet kid, who kept grindin, and taken the shots.
yup. great story too. probably story of the year early on in the season. too many people want instant results and werent taking the rough road he traveled into consideration with all the different schemes and positions he was asked to learn
I was halfway on the bandwagon after last weeks game, now im fully aboard. J. Allen's definately got a stonghold on that starting job. It's about ****ing time. Now bring on Moss(after we run all over the Jest).
Well it depends. Some kids play zone all their lives. Look at Ronde Barber. Under Monte Kiffin he was one of the best corners in the NFL. But he was a very different 'best CB in the NFL' than Pat Surtain was. The reason Jamar Fletcher failed in Miami was more down to a total failure of Dave Wannstedt's in drafting a pure zone corner to play in a bump and run system. Your point's a good one, but it's not always that simple.
that was awesome, him and Vontae where all over the field, 3 picks for JA (one lost to penalty) and one for VD, was awesome. I had seats on the 10 yd line 12th row and it was awesome watching it live and in person, our defense was flying all over place. I never felt that the Vikes were going to win, though I was biting my nails at the end
The guy has had to learn so many different defenses, and finally has found one that he can thrive him. Major kudos to him. I hope he continues to show us what he did tonight. Man deserves a few game balls, oh wait he took them himself.
I never thought he was bad to begin with. Showed flashes at FS a few years ago, IMO. I just think this is the first defense we've had that fits him and he's comfortable in. I think more people are/were disappointed with Sean Smith than anything.
It's been unreal how he's turned his career around. He's been fantastic. It's a feel good story for someone every single one of us wrote off. Kudos to him for working his *** off and making himself into a solid starting CB. JA and Vontae, who is well on his way to being one of the best in the league, were the MVP's today.
I will say I'm shocked, but the kid has been lights out so far. More power too him for working at it!
I never wrote JA off as a CB just at S. Have to admit though he has been a real pleasant surprise. I was beginning to wonder if Allen had a good game in him. We found out today that he did.
Im sure we can all agree that whether we thought he could play or not, no one expected him to come out this season and play this good so far. props man. keep on ballin.
It seems Jason Allen has arrived. It should be interesting to see which of the two corners (Davis and Allen) will have the most Ints this season.
Well, sometime last yr, I semi gave up on Jason Allen. Not in the sense of 'he is a bum! cut him! bustini!" Rather he was just a really good Special Teams player and 4th Cb, good enough in fact that I truly did believe he could and would make the pro bowl as the AFC's Special Teams Gunner. I'm not ready to jump on the band wagon, I will say he played far better as a starting Cb than I thought he would, last yr he played well vs the steelers and pastriots, so there was improvement, but I did not see this huge turn around coming. As Sparano said: "You (the media) have been saying for years when Jason Allen was going to turn it around, well this is a positive thing (that he won the starting job)"
During Jason Allen's post game interview, he gave credit to Clemons calling out " ball ball ball" for his goal line interception. Saying that they have been practicing this. Makes you feel good about Clemons back there instead of Gerbil, where there was no communication. God im excited about this D.
Brett Favre's Vontae quote actually gave props to Jason Allen as well. You can read that full quote about why Brett went to that throw and other quotes from the Vikes here -> http://www.miamidolphins.com/content/vikings-postgame-quotes
NO bandwagon here. I've been hoping for him since he's been here. Here is what I said in June of 2009: Finally, over one year later! I never give up hope for our draft picks. I don't know why, I just can't do it. Ginn is gone, but sticking with Allen is paying off!
I call Shotgun, mo'fers!!!! I'll tell you who's NOT invited on this wagon>>> WagonCircler, that's who. He can just keep onnnnnn circlin. Besides, I think there's a Trent Edwards comeback player of the year wagon at 4pm that should have plenty of seats available.
on or off the band wagon, Jason Allen has finally arrived & is playing to potential personally: I never lost hope for Jason Allen & am pleasantly surprised w/the entire DB especially with Chris Clemons
Friend Killerphins: you're right, I said many times: the Free Safety w/ our Achilles Heel & the defensive backfield a serious concern, and it was potentially our weakest link in the defensive chain, until Clemons stepped up his game. Jason & Clemons have come through, surpassing my expectations. it is a fix... kudos, Coach Nolan my three biggest concerns have been addressed: 1) defensive backfield stepped up 2) offensive line stepped up to an Orca-status of play 3) Henne stepping up his game in a timely & appropriate manner now, we're half way to the 'Quick Start' that will allow us to contend in 2010 what's not to like?
Goat!!!! Jason Allen giveth and Jason Allen taketh away. Nice slip and nice pass interference, busto!!!!
In his defense, the slip may have been due to the new sod they put on to cover the dirt...or so they said...I am not a sod expert...
come on JA didnt make every play but the whole team got beat. those that throw stone better, oh wtf what ever stfu it happens a close game we lost
Personally, I don't know why we had him on Edwards all night anyways. I can't hold it against Allen for getting burned a few times by a WR with some serious talent b/c Jason's not our top CB. If he got burned throughout the night by a lesser WR, then I'd be worried.
JA is pretty much a rookie CB, the Jest picked on him and he did have a TD and a BS PI call, however, that is JA, he will clean that stuff up. We lost a close one at home, JA is getting OJT. Besides, objectively, did JA play any worse than Vontae or SS did in 09? Nope.
Jason Allen's "boom or bust" play has always been what kept him out of the line up. This just in, this team is still lacking a corner....
There were a number of bad plays by the team. But, Jason Allen had far too many negative plays. - The long TD to Edwards. When there is a blitz, you gotta keep the WR in front of you. - The 3rd and long completion - when he had over the top coverage, to get beat underneath by Edwards was simple stupidity. The guy has some athleticism, but he's just not a very heady player. - The interference call. He was getting burned by Edwards. There were many mistakes, but no one had more big time negative plays than Allen. The Jets just killed us at that position. Nothing to do with throwing stones. Simple facts.
Tonight Jason Allen reverted to form...default setting: SUCK. Aside from all the gaffes in coverage, he failed to bring in a couple of balls that hit his hands, either of which would have changed the nature of the game.
