That's right, he didn't play AT ALL against the Bills, and the defense held up regardless. In fact, "held up" is a poor choice of words. Except for that one touchdown drive where Nolan decided not to pressure Edwards, thus getting him into a rhythm, the Dolphin defense was dominant. All without their exuberant corner Sean Smith. He doesn't play special teams and thus got no work at all. Jason Allen deserves all the play right now. Guy is playing good football. And if he'd have caught that one pick six, we'd all be singing his praises, all of us.

I'm not saying we should go out and trade Sean Smith. But there are lots of teams who wouldn't mind his ability on their roster (including us). What is his trade value I wonder now that he's not playing?

Was waiting for this thread... I'd be cautious to assume JA can continue this all season long. :)

I think Smith could have hauled in the INT that Allen didn't.

Beyond that, Jason Allen actually did a decent job. I'm incredibly surprised. Could he finally be panning out?

I'm not surprised. I'd been thinking he'd be inactive all week.

When the guys in front of you are playing well and you don't play special teams, it's to be expected.

I stated on another thread a few days ago that I had serious reservations about Jason Allen being a starting CB on the Dolphins. Today I will admit that he played a very good game. But of course we were playing the Bills. One of the worst teams in the NFL. If he continues his stong play in coming weeks I will admit I was wrong about him. Right now I will wait to see how he plays against a good QB. Edwards is anything but a quality QB in the NFL at this point.

Just read Smith's Twitter weekly. The kid cares more about getting his hair did than anything else. Hope his braids looked good for the game today while he was on the sidelines. Jason Allen should have had a pick 6 today...and that would have been 1 more INT than Smith and one more TD than Smith. iyam, and I am not an Allen fan, Allen is best for that job right now. Smith needs to grow up and learn that his prima donna lifestyle won't work here. Take a cue from Davis on how to act. That kids has got it right.

I think JA can haul that in too. I think he got so excited and lost his focus when he realized he had a pick 6 in his hands...and then it went bye-bye. LOL.

You bring up a valid point. But to counter that point, it was the Bills offense which is damn near non-existant. That being said, I wouldn't be too quick to trade off Sean Smith. If Jason Allen is better than Sean Smith, and he can play consistently at the level he did today, then we have a really good problem to deal with. Having a wealth of talent at a critical position is a good thing. You don't just trade it off for the sake of making a trade. Sean Smith has great size, speed and talent. It may just take him a while longer to develop into the player we want him to be. But that doesn't mean that during that time we need to trade him, label him a bust, or hate on him the way a lot of people have done lately. Dolphins fans need to learn patience. I'm sick of us running people out of town because they're not elite in their 2nd or 3rd year. How many times do we have to cut a player and see them go to another NFL team and succeed before we realize that we MUST give players time to develop before we pass judgement on them?

I didn't say YOU did. But you know where this discussion leads. You have "fans" on this site that can't wait to point out the negative and tear down our players and let all the rest of us know how smart they are by telling us how much we're going to suck this year. I'm not here to question anyone's fandom. But I do have to question the intent of some people to come to a Miami Dolphins forum only to bash the Dolphins. Some of our local Fins fans are the biggest trolls on the site. I'm just saying...

well, we can ignore them if it gets to that... I'm just curious where his trade value is now that he's not playing... as opposed to the preseason when he was starting.

Are you basing that on the numerous INT's Sean had last season? :shifty: Who's to say Smith wouldn't have given up a deep ball that ends up costing us the game?

I don't know that he has much trade value. If the perception of Jason Allen, despite his play today, is the same as it has been amongst the phins community then people may see Sean Smith as a total scrub to lose his job to THAT guy. But, god forbid we make an attempt to trade him, I could see us getting a 5th. MAYBE a 4th.

Jason Allen played a solid game today. Really, I'm happy for the guy. That has to make him feel good after everything and hopefully give the guy some confidence going forward. Does that mean I'm "crowning " him? Nope, but I'd leave him out there next week. After today, I'd say it's his job to lose. Let's see if Smith can man up and win the job back.

And outside of getting burned by both ends of the talent pool (Roddy White - Sam Hurd) in one preseason, he's an absolute [preseason] stud.

Yes, the Buffalo receivers really missed having Sean Smith out there. They didn;t get any wide open deep balls with him running five feet behind them.

Sean Smith is probably happy just getting paid to do very little at this point... still money for braids and other b.s.

Someone should introduce him to Jake Grove's ghost before Ireland introuduces Smith to the street.

Definitely. I'm not the world's biggest Sean Smith fan, but the guy is talented. If he can develop something resembling a work ethic, he and Vontae will be an excellent CB tandem for years to come.

That said, I'm not surprised Vontae has surpassed Smith. Vontae is hugely talented and was the best available player when we drafted him.

Fabricated and overblown like the Dez Bryant stuff.

I wasn't posting here when we drafted Vontae, but my understanding is that people were moderately annoyed over the pick. I was practically leading a parade when we picked him.

Because people around here have to hate on someone. I mean, honestly, that's what it is. There can be absolutely no point in time where the phins.com can be happy with all 53 players on the roster. Wait, scratch that, happy is the wrong word. There can be no point in time where the phins.com is not expressly hating on at least one member of the 53 man roster. And, in the eyes of the ignorant masses, if you're not a pro bowl player by your second year in the league then you just need to get the **** out of Miami because we're not interested in that kind of trash. :pity:

Note: Ignorant is not the same as stupid, dumb ***, ******ed, etc.

Apparently thats what we do here with inexperienced players after we win a game. Check the Henne threads

Smith played pretty well for us last year, sure he had a rough preseason. Hope he gets it together, Allen looked alright today, but I dont know if I trust him for a whole season. We'll see next week.
