Pretty much what Parcells said would happen the day he was hired.

30 or so months in the making.

not sure when exactly the "right time" is to make that move, but you gotta think that the lead up to week 1 game will lead to lots of media questions.

    Gotta be quick here.

Except Ireland now calls the shots i.e. he can trade for Tony McDaniel without someone else stipulating he recoup that seventh rounder. ;)

Hopefully he learned from the Master. Last year we got away from the Blueprint and we burned our second and third round picks. I think they got themselves back on track this year in the draft.

Well, big picture this sort of hurts the Franchise in the sense that we land FA's and UDFA's based on Tuna being the VP, when he finally does set sail who knows if we land the same quality of player?

I don't think it's going to be much difference. It's more of the title thing. If Parcells is really passionate about a certain player or strongly advises Ireland that he's making a mistake and needs to something different, I'm sure Ireland will acquiesce. JMO. I could be wrong. It also frees himself from looking bad, you know.. "s---, it wasn't my call"....:pointlol:just kidding. He's also setting up for the future. I mean he can't be hands on forever. He's getting up there in age, you know?

Parcells distancing himself from the Pat White draft pick a few days ago was an indication that he was distancing himself from the org.as well .

Its really no surprise. That has been his pattern

What we have left with is a relatively inexperienced GM twisting in the wind .He needs to
get results if he wants to stick around.

    Yeah he's questioning the timing.

His crew thinks Parcells just quit and Tony's a lame duck. They're speculating whether Carl Peterson is involved or if he's coming (they're convinced). His association with Ross is worrisome though.

Dan's not buying it. But he thinks he just quit.

Well Parcells is still on the payroll, which means he's still under contract. But that contract says he can leave whenever he wants along with the balance of his contract.

With Ireland assuming control, it is a bit reassuring on the Peterson angle. They'd have to demote or strip power from him for Peterson to have control.

That said, there's nothing preventing Ross from hiring Peterson in some capacity and then giving him power if/when Ireland is canned down the road.

That's the thing that's got me a little off balance right now. The timing just makes no sense. Why wasn't this announced at the beginning of TC or pre-season? Unless something has happened, or is happening to change Parcells involvement or commitment to the team.

Is this one of those instances where Ricky is right, about the media being overtly negative right out of the gate, about something that's not necessarily negative?

This was the plan all along. He's stepping back, just as he said he would eventually.

What's the big deal? Seriously, am I missing something? According to the writers on Twitter, it's the end of the world.

Peterson will be installed next season because he's Ross' buddy.- implied

Tony is Parcell's guy, he's now a lame duck coach.

    Agreed.

No change here IMO, just a move by Parcells to publicly empower his GM.

I don't know, about now is when there is probably as little to do personnel wise when compared to others. The 53 is as set as it ever is going to be, the draft is a season away, etc. I mean, when is a good time, if not now? When you think about it, as far as obtaining talent, this is not the time to be doing it in any great fashion.

Why not leave now? I suppose, the end of the season seems to make more sense in that - it's the end - but at that point, draft stuff is already ongoing.

I'm not so sure this isn't the perfect time! Just my humble opinion.

I honestly don't see where his commitment is changing.
It's stated he's going to consult daily with the team which is EXACTLY what he signed on for and was doing.

Probabaly were going to announce it sooner but had to put it off with the bad press Ireland drew about Bryant's mom. Now that amends are made and his reputation is not muddy, it comes out. JMO.

That is a part of the reason why Williams slammed the miami sports media.

Jeff Irelands first or second boss in the NFL?

    One Carl Peterson..in KC.

If anything this does put Irish directly into the spotlight.

Even though this is a joke, do you have any doubt that Riley could quickly get up to speed on football and do at least a good a job as Martin Mayhew or Billy Devanney?

They're having fun with it. Dan himself is saying they're gas-bagging and need actual media people to inform them.

"Anyone wanna go with 'health reasons'?"

"Bill Parcells failed a drug test?"
