I am glad you guys are not worried. But the best player on our team is not practicing today. Instead he is riding a bike because of a knee injury he suffered in the 4th preseason game.

    Facts are facts.

Jake isn't the type of player who needs last minute reps. He knows what he's doing and the Coaching staff have full trust he can miss a week of practices and still step in and play the way he plays.

I wouldn't be practicing him this week either, i'd be making sure his injury is fully recovered come week 1.

Injuries happen in football. Just a fact. The team has to be ready
to play. Sparano, who I feel probably knows more about football than
you, or I, and certainly has more experience on the pro level made a choice
and I think he had more facts and information than we did on the state
    of his team...That he coaches.

If we're that worried about injuries, no starters should play an pre season games..Or practice, because they can get hurt there too.

Jake got hurt. He said himself he'll be ready. We can't change the fact that he got hurt so lets move on. Think positive, relax and be thankful our opener is sunday and not thursday.

We're going to win, and we're going to play well.

Ever hear those players that say "I'm playing on Sunday", even though they know, and you seriously suspect, they'll most likely be riding the pine?
I think Jakes one of those guys.

Sparano committed one of those "butcher" type of errs that no one really needs to mention.
Its sits out there, smoldering well above our burning eyes, and local flames of discontent, leaving a cloud of soot high into the upper atmospheres of prevalent league news.
It wafts across, and ultimately reaches the front office of every team, and every coaching peer across the land, where its smelled and scrutinized as what not to do.

Pfft. Bull. The team was stinking it up, and he knows for his own sake
that the team can't start the season unready to play, like the last two seasons.

I don't blame him playing the starters.

Execute the plays given to you, or keep executing them until you do.
More work is better than less work. I don't understand how people don't get that.

I hardly believe the team is going down the tubes, and trust Jake was merely nicked up. I still don't expect he'll play, and yet I have every expectation of beating Buffalo despite his absense.
As for the blunder, I have no problem with what he did, but believe critcism will be in order, for not having altered his thinking, when he learned of Dallas fielding their third stringers.

Until he sits out a Sunday, not worried. This is the same Jake Long who once played with a high ankle sprain. And even if he does sit out against the Bills, not worroed. Bills have the worst front 7 in the league, worst pass rush in the league. If he's out vs. the Vikes, then I'm very worried.

The Dolfan Bandits mentioned on facebook that it is looking less and less likely that Jake will not play and that Carey will move to LT this weekend. Has anyone seen this anywhere?

Your double negative has me confused.

I assume you mean that it looks more and more likely that Jake Long WILL NOT play and that Carey is moving to LT for week 1.

If true, does Murtha man the RT spot or does McQuistan come right in and start at RT?

Nobody is perfect. Not even Sparano.

Let me ask you this. Why did almost every single other team rest their starters Week 4 of the preseason? Matt Moore, Matt Ryan, Mark Sanchez, Kevin Kolb, David Garrard, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Matt Schaub, Joe Flacco, Tony Romo, Jay Cutler, Brett Favre, Drew Brees, Matt Hasselbeck, Philip Rivers, Alex Smith, Josh Freeman, and Jake Delhomme all sat out.

Why didn't those guys play? I'll tell you why. Because playing them would have unnecessarily exposed them to injury.

F.Y.I. Shula never played his starters Week 4 of the preseason. I am pretty sure he knows more about football than you or I.

A few extra plays in an exhibition game against second stringers is not going to save our season. Exposing our starters to unnecessary risk could only jeopardize our season. I don't understand how people don't get that. :wink2:

Sorry, I didn't look over the post before I submitted, a rarity for me. Yes, they said the Jake Long is looking less likely to play.

As for them being a viable source, you notice that is why I came here to verify that information, they are not viable in my eyes.

He should stay on the bike then, as he is safest there. peddle Jake, peddle!

P.S. Is anyone mad at Carey for blowing his assignment thus having him plow into Jake's knee? Or what about Henning for that call?

Shouldnt we just have punted everytime we got the ball and simply played all 60 min with our Defense and special teams to prove themselves?

Well first of all, putting together a list of half the starting quarterbacks in the league sitting out hardly does alot to suggest that it's a near universal practice.

Secondly, the one really applicable comparison you've fudged pretty badly. Tony Romo didn't sit the Cowboys 4th preseason game, he played late into the 3rd quarter. The Dolphins game was their 5th game, as they played in the HOF game. They're the accurate comparison, given that they didn't do well in the preseason and their starters played even longer than ours did overall.

What about Tom Brady and the Patriots? Given how often Bill Belichick's slightest bowel movement is treated as a revelation delivered from on high around here, the fact that Tom Brady and Co. played the first quarter in their last preseason game should be enough to dissuade people from shrieking about this.

I may be wrong but I would rather Long sit out week one if he is not completely healed. Why risk a tear and him being out for the season. we can get by 1 week w/out him. As for who's fault it is, hindsight is 20/20 and we really can't put a finger on any one person. If you could stop femaledog-ing about who should get fired and who should get crucified, it would be nice. I know just because they are the FO does not mean they know everything, but they do know a lot about football. Whoever thinks they know more about FB than Bill Parcels raise your hand .

Wednesday there is a mandatory injury report so we will find out a bit more and Sunday we will see the starting line up. Either way there is nothing we can do or say that will change anything regarding Jake Long except pray he is fine:praying:. Without Jake we will loose this Sunday, ohhh wait a second we are playing the Bills, never-mind, chalk us up a W. JK, but really:shifty:.

You are missing the point. Why don't starters play much in the first preseason game? Why don't they play in the second half of the second preseason game? Why don't they play in the 4th quarter of the third preseason game?

The preseason is all about limiting players' exposure to risk. Otherwise they would play every quarter of every preseason game.

Carey should not have been in the game either. None of our starters should have been in the game.

No. We should have played our second string. Most of whom got cut anyway.

You're right. However it makes me angry that Chad Henne was exposed to injury while Jake freakin' Delhomme was protected.

That's different. The Cowboys did not have as much time to prepare for their first preseason game as everybody else. In that situation it is a little more acceptable to play your starters in the 4th game (everybody else's 3rd game).

It should be but it's not. Different circumstances.

    1. Brady was criticized for his lack of involvement in the Pats' offseason program. So maybe Belichick was sending a message.

    2. The Pats were playing against the Giants' starters. That wasn't the case with the Cowboys.

    3. Eli Manning would not have been playing if he hadn't lost time due to injury.

    4. I don't give a crap what people think about Belichick. It was stupid to play Brady in that 4th game. Especially after his stellar performance in the 3rd game.

Actually you can put a finger on one person. It was Sparano's decision and his alone.

I will stop *****ing about it when Jake Long is healthy and starting for us in Week 1.

You're right. We will know more on Wednesday. I hope it is good news because without Jake Long our season is in serious trouble. Anybody who thinks this isn't a big deal is kidding themself.

See. We criticize Henning for his play-calling yet he has forgotten more football then any of us will ever know.

Sparano made a bad decision. No. Bad decision isn't strong enough. It was a horrible decision. I'm on the record saying as much before the game and I take no joy in being right.
