I dunno man. Berardino implied otherwise. Douglas was just from my own observation. You can see it out on the field, but I've also heard him miked up during games and he's a high energy vet who gets his lineman going.
I hope Langford and Odrick are up on their cardio too. With Douglas and Grant gone we're going to end up seeing a lot of McDaniels this year.
I agree, I like Douglas but i could do without Grant. A man with that big of a belly shouldnt be playing football.
too slick for me. I don't get any of these moves, way beyond my football comprehension. have to just sit back & watch, hoping the Big Tuna is the architect of this confusion & all will be well in the end. personally, I think its time to contend & the coaches need to be held responsible for this season whatever the result. hope they set the offensive line, then leave it alone. no more excuses, its game time.
Sparano does not appear to be consistent as Head Coach & seems to return to the one thing he knows, the Offensive Line. None of this makes sense to me, including the Offensive Line. Maybe, Parcells is behind this sudden change of direction. got to be a fix in the making somewhere...I'm probably just too slow to get it. first game coming soon, by game four we'll know what direction the season is going.
Maybe, I don't know if they feel like they've reached the bottom of those wells or not. I think Dotson is no longer eligible for the PS and I wouldn't think that they're going to use a spot on the active roster to see if he's got something he hasn't shown yet. Also, I don't know how they're planning to rotate Soliai in or what kind of looks he's going to get, but I don't like that our DL went from a unit with depth a-plenty to a cross your fingers and pray no ones ankle gets stepped on kind of thing. Grant was at least getting some pressure on the QB in the preseason and making some plays out there. Odrick looked good, but I don't know if he's gonna be able to hold up and we're going to need him on passing downs.
I hope you don't get the flack I got earlier today for suggesting that Cowher could be Ross' target if the team flops this year, and Parcells, Ireland and Sparano are let go.
I'll be glad to say I was dead wrong, elated actually, but right now I am not feeling it on this team this year - not like two months ago. The problem I have with the cuts are that some of the players actually flashed some abilities, particularly in areas of weakness like Grant in the pass rush. And, instead we go for 4 MAJOR ... I repeat, MAJOR developmental players? Three of the four were UDFAs and then didn't make their team - we expect them to contribute to the 53? And the fourth was a late round pick (Geathers). Good size and potential but those are moves of teams that have a new regime and were 1-15 the year before - not moves of teams who are hunting the SB. The other issue is that the FO has outsmarted itself multiple times (e.g., White, Turner, Smiley, etc.). Whenever coaches and GMs start doing that - I get worried; especially when they continue down the road of risky moves. Or, they are moves of a team whose owner is getting seriously tight money wise - Then again, what would one expect from an owner whose money is generated in Real Estate in the worst Real Estate market in decades; and whose team lost money?
I think this is key. I havent been a fan of this regime since last year (when we started 0-3, blew the game vs the Saints and finished 0-3) but touche. They aren't the FO/Coaches I want, but they are the FO/Coaches we have, so with that, I support them. I dont "do football" as a living, I am just a passionate, albeit amateur, fan. But sometimes lay-people are right. Sometimes, we get it better than the professionals. Our gut feelings are often times right. As you astutely point out, we are going to know a month going in if I, and those of you like-minded fans, were right....OR....we have our opinions but the facts are best left to the football people who run this organization. If we are 2-2 or better after game 4, I'll glady admit that I screwed the pooch and these guys get it. If we are worse than that, I am going to have to say, "I knew it all along, these guys are over-indulgent headline grabbing bums". I hope like hell I am wrong as I love the Fins and would to rooting for them in a meaningful game in January.
Just to expand on that point, iam not suprised by the Douglas and Grant moves.....This team is being built from the ground up, with OUR players, were gonna sink or swim with them.. P.s, Those dudes Douglas/Grant, were old fat asses anyways.. The name were not mentioning enough is Tony Mcdaniel, this dude has not only been a beast this preseason, he's lined up all over the defensive front. He's gonna get reps man, bigtime. Him and Solai, are young, are in better shape, and our true...I know MCD came from Jax, but we have put enough time into his developement where he is true miami dolphin.
dude, Langford, Starks, Odrick, Solai, MCD, there's your def. line rotation in a 34 defense... those two dudes arent gonna be happy here with the playing time they would of got.... we don't need them..Our 5 are big and bad enough.
You do realize your frettin over 2, out of shape, over 30 football players, that were completely strange to our team? we have our own young guys that are ready to play.. Parcells is building OUR team, its gonna require some patience, but the end result will be built to sustain... Take the lumps with our young guys.....I believe in this philosophy...Tryin to build a young bad *** team here, dont want no 33 year old ny jet castoff impeding the philosophy. Remember, A dynasty is in the process, this year is still imo a rebuilding year.
And there it is. I was waiting for someone else to say it before I chimed in. But does anyone know the difference in salaries that would have to have been doled out to Grant, Douglas, Martin and Allen (who is probably covered by insurance if put on IR) vs. the four no names we just picked up? I imagine that if you are looking for ways to trim the payroll, saving a million or tw oon the back end of your roster is the way to do it. Whether those moves come back to hurt the overall product on the field is yet to be determined, but the same exact thought ran through my head with regards to Ross and money.
I believe this is probably true. But Parcells doesn't like owners disrupting affairs. I do believe parcells is old enough and smart enough to realize he keeps a owner happy. I think we have alot of money out their and the idea is to be able to get players next yr. we needed to trim costs we are not superbowl bound yet imo. I think this team needed a revamp and instaed of waiting till end of year three and be on the outs with Ross he made choices now. While some may question the front office and there choices so far. Parcells is a huge draw to this organization. He is a money winner at the price we have him and Ross can afford him. I believe in the future your gonna see Ross make a large offer to Parcells.(thats what business men do you retain best available). Parcells lives in Jupiter and loves Florida. I see this thing going longer than three yrs come on how many teams win in that three yr window lol. EDIT: I mean what do you do? Are you gonna let go a Parcells for a a coach that wants control over personal. We have a good group of guys that live football stand behind em please. I dont want to be the buffalo bills
I do it all the time in Madden franchise mode when it gets to the last 5 or 6 rounds. Seems to work for me.
WOW less than 24 hours and im wrong again. LOL i cant win. I give up. next time i say someones gonna be cut, they'll stay
