I know its a WHAT IF question but if we start 0-4 does anyone think Tony Sparano gets the boot? I know this topic wont be popular as I try not to drink the Kool-aid.
No I don't, however I think we COULD start off that bad. Our schedule is brutal, and I don't buy into this we have Buffalo beat **** that some people here seem to think, NONE of our games are gimmes at this point.
Agreed, Buffalo is always looked over, and it bites teams in the *** sometimes. That being said, the entire AFC east is just a big question mark.
I think if we finish under 500, Tony might be gone. But I don't think he's the one that SHOULD be gone if that happens...Ireland should be fired before Tony.
Parcells will never do it. Ireland is his protogé. It would be a total admission of failure on his part. Never will happen.
I didn't say it would happen, I said it should happen if we did finish under 500. In reality, I think if we have a very bad season, it might be goodbye to the whole crew: Parcells, Ireland and Sparano. Maybe not, but I wouldn't be surprised.
Agree. Ireland is the one that has blown high draft picks and made bust free agent deals, not Tony. Tony has done a hell of a job with what he has to work with.
Everybody's god damn schedule is brutal, why the hell does it keep being brought up? The Jets face Baltimore and NE at home, at Miami and then at Buffalo to start. NE has Cincy at home, at the Jets, home vs Buffalo and at Miami (followed by Baltimore, at San Diego and Minnesota at home). None of it is easy for any team.
He hasn't blown in the first round. Jake Long, Vontae, and Oddrick? That's 3 potential pro bowl guys. (jakes already been, Vontae has the skills, and Oddrick already looks like a veteran 3-4 DE) I think people overlook just how important it is to make a good pick in the first round. These are the guys who get the guaranteed money. Financially speaking, the first round pick is almost more important than the rest of the entire draft. Couple that with Ireland bringing in guys like Davone Bess and Randy Starks, oh and Drafting Chad Henne, come on. How has Ireland looked bad. Yeah not every move works out, but the most important ones have.
Most teams make good first round picks. Championship teams do not blow 2nd and 3rd round picks the way the Dolphins have routinely done over the past 10 years.
If we start 0-4 and finish under .500, yes he should be fired and with Mr. Ross, I think he will be fired. This guy is spending alot of money trying to make the Fins Experience a positive one. Its working. I went to a game last year and it was an incredible game day experience. But he is not going to tolerate losing. Nor should he. In year three, we should be better than 8-8. If this team doesnt make the playoffs, I think a change should be made.
I would hate to see Tony get fired, he is by far the best coach we've had here since Shula. This year's schedule is by far the hardest we have faced since Sparano has been here. I don't think changing coaches every few years is going to help us win a superbowl. We need to keep some continuity for a little longer to give them a legitimate shot.
Every game is tuff, but schedule makes a huge difference getting to the playoffs. Look at the Jets & Dolphins, which our division is matched up against the AFC & NFC North this year... I know whose schedule I would prefer. (P) is a playoff team from last year. Dolphins Away Games - Vikings(P), Packers(P), Bengals(P), Ravens(P) Dolphins Home Games - Steelers, Bears, Browns, Lions Jets Away Games - Steelers, Bears, Browns, Lions Jets Home Games - Vikings(P), Packers(P), Bengals(P), Ravens (P) Same teams except the Dolphins play the Raiders away and Titans at home. The Jets play the Broncos away and Texans at home, which I consider a near wash. The flipped division matchups is almost comical though.
Playing the Vikings, Packers, Bengals and Ravens at home isn't a cakewalk either. Good teams win at home and on the road.
