Penny is the best back up in the league. He is like another coach and can come in and win for ya. You want your starter to have a better than 50/50 chance to finish the season though. That is why he is a back up.

I agree, with the looming season-lockout in 2011, I think if we have a 5-11 or 6-10 season, Parcells, Ireland and Sparano are all blown out. Ross has his friend Carl Petersen by his side all the time and I think he'll turn to Petersen to rebuild the Fins yet one more time. Henne & Penny could be gone and Thigpen might get the gig. Wasn't he a Petersen draft pick at KC ?

I guess you missed the Jacksonville game then if you think he didn't show us anything.

IMO Henne didn't play great but he wasn't that bad. I also think he played in poor passing conditions in two of the games and had some drops. If some of those drops had been caught, say 4 of them over the course of the preseason, then I think his numbers would have been respectable.

    His numbers this preseason were:
    Att: 58
    comp: 32
    yards: 346
    comp. %: 55.2
    YPA: 6.0
    TDs: 2
    INTs: 1
    QBR: 77.2

With four more completions for about 45 yards, which I think is easily possible based on the drops I saw, his numbers would be as follows:

    Att: 58
    comp: 36
    yards: 391
    comp. %: 62.0
    YPA: 6.7
    TDs: 2
    INTs: 1
    QBR: 86.2

And that's with only about half of the drops I saw becoming catches. I would like his YPA to be higher but other than that I wouldn't be complaining too much about those numbers.

This thread will be long forgotten in about a week and a half. It was nice to see or read about something other than training camp, but the preseason is over now. 9/12/10, t-minus 8 days, 23 hours, 4 mins, 20 seconds.

I don't think the OP was saying he had to winit. I think it was he didn't really shine. Alot of the passes were right on target, but dropped. That really bodes bad for Henne or any QB. Hopefully, things will come together and fast. The season is right around the corner.

In DePhin's defense, we have fans who actually think Henne could be possibly benched for Thigpen. Cuckoo fan's aren't limited to Aqua and Orange. Just sayin.

You wanted him to show something on crossing routes in the preseason? Receivers not getting open and O-Line not blocking doesn't help much either.

Oh.... just got word: Tom Brandstater is starting over Payton Manning.

Also: Matt Ryan, Tony Romo, Eli Manning, Brett Favre, Donovan McNabb, Big Ben, Jay Cutler, and Kevin Kolb have also been demoted. You heard it here first folks. :shifty:

    I do.

All I was curious about, was a hypothetical.

IF this was an open QB situation, did Henne do enough to win the job.

I worded the original post poorly, and people ran with it and derailed this into a doom and gloom thread. I never said Henne sucked, I never said we suck, I never said we weren't going to win a game. I just posed a question I thought might be interesting to discuss.

Understandable. Honestly, most of us read about 70% of the post. It just felt like one of the cliff jumping threads. Sorry.

When Henne learns to throw anything other than a frozen rope he'll be fine.

Oh I hear ya bro. Baltimore's defense really won them that Superbowl. Wasnt being critical, just sayin, Dilfer was definately NOT a franchise QB. Sometimes you just need a guy who can manage the game and make smart decisions.

Thanks Rafs, I was just about to post something to this extent but yours is better..

LOL, your numbers are conservative.. do we all realize that if henne doesn't have an inordinate amount of drops he 's close to a 90 QBR?..

Those drops were real, they should not be discounted when making an assessment of a player with such little amount of data to do so.

This dude played well enough, especially in some of the conditions he was faced with, for us to be pleased with his progression.

Raf if you dont mind I may copy and paste this every time I see an unfair projection of him based on a flawed preseason.

Thanks, and use it as you will.

As for the drops, I saw at least half a dozen this preseason that should have been easy catches. I'm not talking great catches or even challenging catches. I'm talking about passes that the WRs got both hands on, in stride, between their waist and the forehead and within the frame of their shoulders. I only knocked it down to four b/c even with perfect passes you're going to have some drops.
