If you ask me, this is the biggest crock of horse **** out of Goodell's tenure yet. The man has got to go. I haven't liked him since he took over as commissioner and this is just another in his long line of bias, bigoted, and damn near racist decisions. You're telling me that 3 counts of alleged sexual assault is equal to smoking one joint in terms of suspension time? And don't give me this "He was never convicted." bull****. Adam Jones was never convicted and he got a whole year. If Roethlisberger was a Tight End or a Defensive Lineman, or god forbid, black he would have gotten 8 games at the minimum. This is rediculous. People like Roethlisberger should be locked up, not getting their suspensions reduced to have the privelage to play a game and make millions of dollars. Goodell has to go.

This was a given the minute it was a 6game "with possible reduction" down to 4game announcement.

It was a given Big Ben would easily toe-the-line with Therapy and being part of training camp under watch, etc. No brainier that it would be reduced ~ heck if he couldnt toe-the-line to go from 6 to 4, he would have done something stupid that would have moved it from 6 to season...so 6 was basically never gonna happen.

    So basicly

Someone can rape 2 girls than get suspended 6 games, then when you are in a controlled environnement like training camp with a curfew and you follow the curfew to a T you become the most mature individual ever

What about people like me who never get into trouble in the first place ?

You don't get suspended at all. :confused2:

I severely doubt either instance was rape either.

I think a lot of these guys fall victim to false accusations (Kobe) - but that second case looked pretty damn suspicious.

I grew up near this guy and don't find many people with a high opinion of him - and we're talking small-town America where football stars are gods.

I don't understand how inconsistent Goodell is with these rulings. One week he'll be a hardass - the next he'll give slaps on the wrist. There is no respect from players this way.

I feel the opposite. IMO that's a pretty severe punishment for somebody who has been proven guilty of very little. IMO the punishment was only that harsh b/c he was a QB and the face of a franchise and b/c of his race to avoid the appearance of racism. The facts in the first allegations sounded more like a celebrity being targeted rather than a rape situation. Even the facts in the third sounded more like a a drunken encounter than a rape. IMO Big Ben has proven to show poor judgment and being rather rude, crude and callous but not a criminal. I think if it had been an unknown black TE or DL then there would have been little publicity and once the charges were dropped it would have either gone away or been at most a two game suspension.

    So did I.

I'm not denying the likely hood of some sort of sexual act taking place, or possibly even sexual assault. But I do doubt rape occurred in either instance.

The concept it could have been 6 games is the joke....it was never going to be 6 games. 4 or Season or Lifetime would have been the only option the minute Commish made the provisions. Silly.

How does this thread get a 1 star rating?

And for the record, I didn't "play the race card." Race isn't the issues in THIS case. The issue is that Goodell doesn't have a chance in hell against the players' union of doing more than what he has with someone with no charges...granted, Ben's money cleaned up both situations behind the scenes, but the legal prescedent remains. The problem here is that obviously Ben's money is what cleared up the situation. I've read awful stories about Roethlisberger recently that've completely changed any positive opinions I had about him, believe me...but he's done whatever it took, however it took, to make these situations go away which ties the hands of the Commissioner. I think if he were charged in either case, he's gone for a year and maybe indefinitely if charged in both cases. Goodell knows these things and should have taken a more firm stance on the issue.

From what I've read Ben is out of control, and I firmly believe he will end up in prison. The only problem is that it will likely be sooner rather than later and others are going to get hurt before he gets his. And that's the ****ed up part of it all. Goodell and Rooney aren't helping the situation any either. This is simply another case of the NFL treating women as second hand citizens. The sheer audacity of giving Ben the same suspension as someone who takes steroids or smokes weed, both of which are victimless crimes, is just sad. I mean, Donte Stallworth kills a person while driving drunk on a sidewalk and he's still in the league?

Goodell says he's going to hold the players to a higher standard, when is he going to start?

Where'd you grow up? I'm from Delphos - near Lima.

I still think the second incident looked more forced than consensual.

I just don't see one offseason as being "whatever it took". That just means he didn't assault any college girls for a few months.

It is actually ironic you bring up Stallworth. The facts are that he killed a man driving drunk. The details are that he had taken a cab home, slept for an hour or two and then gotten up and in the car. The guy ran across the street on a bend on a highway. Stallworth screwed up - but wasn't like he left straight from the bar and was driving on a sidewalk.

That being said - Stallworth stayed at the scene. He pled guilty. He worked with the family of the victim to do whatever he could to make the situation right.

THAT is trying to make amends. He didn't hide behind his agent and lawyers. He owned up to being an idiot and did everything he could to make it right.

Stallworth is a jackass for what he did - but everything he did AFTER his mistake should have been used as an example by the league. Instead they set the example to just deny, deny, deny and let your lawyers handle it.

(Note: I am not condoning what Stallworth did. But the way he handled himself AROUND that situation is something you don't see often from athletes. I don't want to start an argument about if what he did was wrong - just trying to bring up the fact that he took responsibility after.)

Didnt Leonard Little kill several people in a drunken car crash under the Tags reign and get pretty much nothing?

When it comes right down to the rubber hitting the road none of this matters. Why? A Tiger can't change its stripes and people like BR don't change either. He will get into another jam and as cops, I know, like to say in the end we'll get him.

How can I say this, just look at his body language over this period during which the Commish had him in the vice. First you see Ben all humble pie, hair cut and all yes Sir, no Sir. Yesterday, Hair growing and flowing, plus reportally asking his games be cut to three, this after saying he would do whatever the Commish ask and not question or ask for any favors.

Nope, give this kid another season and he'll be back out there doing those things he does! Watch out ladies as this cat does not respect females!
