If Vincent Jackson becomes a Miami Dolphin, I will help Boomer eat his children.

Live on the internet, I hope?

Don't make promises you can't keep, though, Des. I've been hearing from a guy (whom I won't specify so take my word or not, I don't much care) that there's indeed rumors, not just Mando's blog.

I'll bring the A1, even.

Just don't see how this team spends $20 million per year on two receivers.

And what the hell would we give up to get him. We wouldn't part with a 1st rounder and I don't thinnk they would take Pat Turner and a 3rd round draft pick.

Man! Not just the passing game but having TWO big dudes blocking on the outside as well! That could be scary and would put our Offense on the level of SCARY...

That being said I'd be utterly SHOCKED if it happened. But who knows? Maybe trading Cam was Step #1...

I'm not sure that AJ Smith has a lot of leverage right now. There are virtually no buyers around, outside some interest by Seattle that appears more lukewarm than hot. They won't get a 1st round pick for Jackson right now and apparently they are having problems getting even a second.

Smith killed whatever leverage he had when he placed Jackson on the roster exempt list, forcing him to serve at least a 3 game suspension no matter which team he plays for.

Of course, Smith doesn't actually want to trade Jackson, so he doesn't care. The Seattle thing was a threat: "Sign the tender or we'll trade you to a crappy team."

I'm not so sure about that. The kind of hardball he's playing, you don't play it against someone whom you want to keep and who has made it perfectly clear that he's willing to play along. I think a 2nd round pick would seal the deal ... Smith just moved himself into a position where no one will pay that 2nd round pick.

Hmm..cut Grove, there is 2 millie, add in if we give up a #1 there is 6 million or so in a signing bonus, and what is being missed is this is basically a one yr sprint to the playoffs as in 2011 no one knows whether there will be a lockout..and with no salary cap..if this is Tuna's last season in Miami, pull the trigger.

Problem is, VJax has a 3 game suspension this season that should reduce his asking price.

Smith is a jerk, but he's a smart jerk. You don't destroy leverage if you actually want to trade someone.

I don't think he wants to deal Jackson at all. He's just turning up the pressure to get the guy onto the team.

Grove isn't going anywhere. He's been practicing on the first team ahead of Berger all week. He's the starting center. He won the competition.

It will reduce the cost by 18%.

From a Strategy standpoint, 2011 could be the last "get what you can before the Rook Cap comes into play" Draft, why not excuse yourself from the first two rounds?

Because that #2 pick would also have a multi million dollar signing bonus and we peddled it for BMarsh.

And you don't get your best WR suspended for three games at the very least if you actually want him around.

Here's the problem though: Smith could easily pay Jackson. Maybe not the 30 million in guaranteed he's asking for but this situation could easily be resolved with a long term deal. Smith, however, insists on Jackson playing for the tender. That doesn't make any sense whatsoever if you're looking to keep him beyond the season.

These rumors were around before Mando's blog and before the Marshall trade. I think it's fair to say that our F.O. probably really does like Vincent Jackson. Since the vast majority of trade rumor never materialize you still have to put this in the very unlikely category.

Personally, I don't think we need him and I don't think he merits the contract he's seeking. That being said, he does have talent and Parcells has always preached that this is a talent acquisition game. I could live with the trade if it were something like VJ for Hartline and a 3rd (maybe a 2nd), but I can't imagine that AJ Smith would go for that unless he believes that VJ will never play for them again.

13 games on your team is better than 16 games on another team.

It makes sense if you're planning to franchise him due to CBA uncertainty.

And an additional second round pick is better than no games at all ...

In theory, yes. Practically, Jackson won't play under tender for two years. He'd be crazy to play this year without a long term contract.

Well, if I were in the offices in Davie, I'd think long and hard about where I expected to finish in 2010, if the only solid conclusion is mid 20's or higher, then offer up the 2011 #1 pick.

#1 picks bust out all of the time, why not go for the sure thing in VJax?

Well, take it up with AJ Smith. I honestly don't see how any of his moves are aimed at a potential trade. He's tightening the leash to the point where he's banned Jackson's agent from talking to other teams, and Smith gave permission for the Seahawks to talk to Jackson without consulting Jackson and his agent.

That to me screams "threat," not "negotiate."

This F.O. has done pretty well with their #1s and they are valuable as trade down tool. I wouldn't consider giving up a #1.

Oh, I'm with you to a certain degree. I don't think it was Smith's intention to trade Jackson when all this drama started. Smith probably figured that Jackson would simply give in at one point. Jackson didn't and now Smith finds himself in a situation where a trade might be his only option left.

It may be truth for all we know, but it sounds like BS to me....(in my best rendition of auld lang syme)....I just don't see this as either prudent or logical. He's not a burner, he's a TO type and seems to have the same flare for being an #-@hole off the field. Not in the the Tuna's DNA. Besides, if they wanted to spend the kind of money and picks it would take to acquire him, why not go after a FS ?? Or a stud OLB ?? Or a stud G ??

Marcus Spears ring any bells Rafi?

A good streak is fine, however there are no guarantees in the NFL, why not go for the sure thing?

We could use a Safety, but maybe they like who they have in camp or estimate they can find one in the 3rd round or later?

The money is one thing, but in terms of pick compensation Jackson might well become a bargain. Good luck trying to get a 27 year old Pro Bowl FS or OLB for a 2012 second round selection ...

With the other holes on the team I find it hard to believe that we'd get involved in a trade for another WR so soon after acquiring Marshall. I would think our FO would be targeting defense, if anything.
