I think the fact that we are even having this discussion is really a huge turnaround from 2-3 years ago where we were begging for even one decent QB. It never hurts to have this much QB depth...to state the obvious. To answer the question though, I think it has to be Henne simply based off his development so far and his potential. I'm a big Pennington fan but we know he has injury issues and we know he's already reached his ceiling, with Henne we still don't know that. Both Henne and Pennington have their flaws but Henne can stretch the defense and open up the running game with his arm strength. So I say give Henne his shot and if he can't cut it we have a pretty good reserve plan in Pennington. Also Thigpen is a backup/3rd stringer and right where he belongs I think. He's a solid 3rd option and a viable Wildcat option...I'm actually pretty thrilled with our QB depth. The only thing I regret is that we don't have the next Joe Montana in Mark Sanchez who went a whopping 5/10 for 12 yards last night. I couldn't resist.
I have always been a huge Henne fan, even when Penningtion was starting. I just wish he was a little more mobile so he could freeze the LB's and the S's. I don't know how all of this got started. It was supposed to be a fun poll because Pennington is getting healthy, man, I had no idea I could get in such trouble saying that I liked Thigpen, he'll develop and we should keep him. God, you'd think I was Jets fan or something.
You got bashed because you were saying this: and next year Thigpen will be better than both of them. Don't hate me guys, I like Henne too but this Thigpen kid can really spread out a defense. If you smash together Pennington and Henne, you probably end up with a Thigpen. Thigpen won't be the answer anytime soon but he can spread out a defense better than anyone on this team, and we didn't get Brandon Marshall to keep throwing 10 yards did we? Pennington and Henne are the better QB's in our offense (this year) but I like Thigpen's style better. I feel that he is worth watching and keeping and apparently the coaches feel the same way.
This site is great not because someone can come on and say anything, but because the level of in depth discussion is higher than anywhere else. Coming on here and saying Thigpen is Henne & Penny smashed together, isn't worthy of this site or respectful discourse. It is the quality of opinion that belongs in comments sections after new articles. For example, if I said White was better than Manning (either of them), I shouldn't expect to have my opinion taken seriously.
I think people were getting ability confused with style. Henne can pass and is pretty non mobile, Pennington is pretty mobile but can't pass (hurt). If you put them together. . . . . you get Thigpen. I also said that H & P were both better QB's than Thigpen but everyone apparently missed that. Either I didn't do a good enough job of explaining it or people just read into it what they wanted to read. I do like Thigpen, and it wouldn't surprise me if he (at 27) didn't pass both of them next year. Sorry guys. Kill me if you like but I don't see anything horrid in there. If this warrants bashing, then by all means - bash away.
Bottom line is Thigpen has been struggling against 3rd and 4th string defenses. Chad Henne and Chad Pennington got it done against first team defense yesterday. Is this really a debate? One thing that we should all be able to agree on is that we have a great stable of QBs and have come a long way since there was discussion in 2008 as to whether or not Josh McCown or John Beck would be our starter...
I don't think you should post anymore cobra, even the good ones that people forgot, let the trolls that sit back and never post anything and attack everyone else do their own posts for a change. Then you can sit back and raise hell with them. It seems to be the thing to do .. .. .. ..
i see alot of guys saying Henne is better than penny because his arm is stronger - a stronger arm doenst mean he is better - right now that is the ONLY thing that henne does better.....penny is by far a better game manager - he is a general something Henne doesnt have yet but I think that will come down the road. At this moment you have to say Penny is better just because of that.
... It takes guts to do new threads - cowards give jambs at it and follow the other 10 jambs before them. The board would be a pretty boring place without new threads wouldn't it?
Just take the hit man.Calling people cowards for protecting the player is not a good come back imo... Cobra, you do a good job with the stuff you bring to the table, but if you said that because you wanted to stir stuff up, than you should be prepared for some hits.
This should not even be a question anymore. Henne is the better of the 4 QB's on the roster, and Penny is the only one even close to him right now. In my opinion Thigpen has shown he needs a fair bit of work yet, and I dont even know what to say about Pat White right now, not looking good for him.
Part of the problem is that there are two questions in this thread... The first in the title: "who is the best QB on the team?"... The second in the poll "Which QB moves the team down the field better?"... and also that you seem to be answering a third, unasked question "Which QB looks best playing?" Just my observation. For the record, my choices would be 1. Pennington for his accomplishments, 2. Henne for his recent play and potential, and 3. Henne in a base formation, but I'd love to see Thigpen split wide in the Wildcat.
I voted for Henne... However, I do believe Pennington still has it cause, he's a veteran player after all & those 2 are better QB's for us than Thigpen is...
I think right now, if this were the final NFL season, or even final NFL game coming up, I would start Pennington. I believe he would be the best fit for the team as our starting QB, right now. But this team is building for the future, Pennington wont be around much longer, and Henne needs more gametime seasoning, so we start him for better longterm results. I voted for noodle arm.
Absolutely absurd to put Thigpen in the same sentence as Henne and Pennington. and the Henne vs Penny argument has been beat to death.
It really depends... Penny is the most experienced and more than capable to run a team. Penny has had his time and is now the wily veteran that gets by on experience, but clearly has physical limitations that could hold an offense back and assuming he can stay healthy for an entire season. If you want someone to control a team for a year or so and nurture your young QB or be a solid veteran backup for your team that is ready to take the next step up the NFL ladder, Penny's your man. Henne is young and has much more upside at this point in his career. If you want a young QB to blossom and grow into a reliable, starting QB, Henne's your man. He has the best of the physical talents of the three. Henne is prepared (by the staff, his experiences last season and Penny's tutelage) to take the reigns and become a franchise QB now. Whether or not he does that remains to be seen, but now is his time... Thiggy is still in the process. Could he take a team on his shoulders, probably can and will at some time in the future, but not ready now and there would be some serious growing pains... If I were choosing, at this point, you'd have to take Henne as the guy...
The funniest thing about this entire thread is that 4 people actually believe Thigpen is the best QB we have. Awesome.
Whoaaa! I don't see anyone acting like he should be killed. I see a lot of people saying his opinion is far fetched and you know what? It is exactly that. I respect anyones opinion but that does not mean I'm going to sit by and let their posts go unanswered. Otherwise we would hear nothing but crickets in here. Thigpen has done OK but has shown absolutely nothing to be annointed the starting Qb after game 2 of the preseason. I like him fine but it's pretty obvious that two other Qb's have done better. Henne did absolutely nothing to relinquish the starters job, going 11-14 with a couple of TD's and no Int's. One being a 55 yard strike.
Thigpen is showing a lot of promise but he's at least a year away from being able to compete for a starting job in the NFL, I think. The Dolphins have messed with his throwing motion and he's come through it better than John Beck, which is promising, but he still needs more seasoning. Chad Henne or Tyler Thigpen? Right now most definitely Henne, but we can take another look at that question again in a year. Chad Pennington or Chad Henne? Depends on health. I don't believe Pennington's healthy, based on what I've heard. I don't believe the zip he had before he got hurt is back again, nor is the stamina he'd need to start and finish 16+ games. That is why he's a backup. How could you ask that shoulder to start and finish 16+ games? If he was 100% healthy and stamina wasn't an issue, the zip on his passes wasn't an issue...that would be a nice competition now that Brandon Marshall is here. Which guy would lead more wins? Marshall is such a great RAC specialist and Pennington throws such a catchable ball with perfect ball placement, I'm actually tempted to say Pennington. But does it matter? This is not reality. We're talking about a hypothetical that is not real, and will not be real...so what's the point? I mean, many would say that message boarding is pointless to begin with but I gotta draw the line somewhere.

1. Henne 2. Pennington 3. Thigpen 4. White Thigpen is getting so much play time for trade bait. He's too good and trade value to be a 3rd QB option.
While Henne is solidly our best QB and deservedly the starter, IMO it is ridiculous for anyone to say Thigpen sucks. He is a viable NFL QB that if need be we can still compete and win games with. In Thigpen's one season as a starter, 2008, in KC, his numbers were no worse than Henne's numbers in 2009. The only thing is Thigpen played in a different offense than ours in KC and one that better suited his skills.
i never even knew there was question as to who is our best right now! after the year Henne had last year which was basically his rookie year we are asking this. maybe pennington has more accuracy and more experience but all around it is definately Henne. thought pennington has done great for us but he gets hurt too easy and can't even throw a ball further than 20 yards and Henne has a cannon. Thigpen is getting a lot of play time... cmon guys! its pre-season......
