What on earth would make you think he's a running back?

That's the whole problem with White and why he can't be effective running the WC.......it's because he's NOT a running back.

As a running back you need at least one of two things, power or speed...... he has neither.

You may as well say he's a linebacker....

I thought you can't go on PUP if you have played in camp your only option is IR? This is the issue we face with Nate Garner we cant pup him for 8 weeks, we either gotta hold his roster spot or put him on IR.
Im always questioning this, but I don't believe we have any players avail. for PUP they all reported and participated in camp.

All due respect but that would be total insanity. Pennington's arm is a ghost and that would make White the QB if Henne goes down (god forbid)
You have heard about and seen PW play right. That would be a disaster.
There is not a 4th round pick in the world that would warrant trading Thigpen. His value to this team is just too high right now.

The guy who threw 2 INTs in 8 attempts last season? I'm not saying White is a better option than him, but I'm not sure its a good idea to compare two players that really are asked to do two different things.

I think the question that would need to be asked regarding Thigpen, is whether he is better than someone else we could get thats a FA, or on waivers.

And if you are correct about Pennington's arm, then he's likely to start the season on PUP, which would make most of this a non-issue.

People like you have been maligning Pennington's arm every year since he's been drafted. His arm is FINE. He'll be an excellent replacement if he needs to come into a game.

I can't believe people are still doubting Pennington. Its silly!

I think the issue is that he isn't back to where he was before last season's injury. At least from whats been reported, his velocity just isnt there. And I was always a big Pennington fan, but I'm not sure he would be able to be effective right now.

If they felt it was a issue then he would have been put on PUP, but we resigned him? He can not go on pup now its trade, IR, or roster.

I understand the situation, but we don't know penningtons arm is any worse than 2008. Penny in 2008 is better than any Thigpen, he manages a game arm or not. So we have 4 QB's only one that has trade value(THiggy).

But I do believe we move thiggy while he has value (even if its a lowly 4th), he is being showcased IMO, and white is are true #3 while playing in the 2 slot.

This Gives Us Henne as # 1, white as a option at #2, pennington at #3 that can always come in. and god forbid Penny can't work Ronnie runs exclusive Wildcat.

If White is cut (which I believe he will be) - it goes down as not only a horrible pick, but a fairly horrible experience in player development.

They draft the guy - throw him into some of the most high-pressure situations of the entire season last year, and then bring him into camp this year, give him minimal time in preseason games, but don't cut him until (at least) after the 2nd preseason game?

From all reports he is going to get mop-up time in the game Saturday. I don't see how this provides any information. If he isn't worth the reps in preseason, I fail to see how he is worth the reps in practice. Or reps in the fourth quarter, down 3 with 3 minutes to go against the Jets, for that matter.

I guess my point is that no matter how this plays out - I fail to see any real logic.

I guess I see it as we hear he is developing. Is he as good as Thigpen NO. But we have Pennington and if we like his progress from surgery then we need to let someone go. MOst 3rd qb's are developmental players so white fits where Thiggy has trade value. Plus thigpen is worthless to us when his contract is up he wants to start. Lets get something

I will be extremely disappointed if they keep Pat White and send Thigpen away. Knowing Penny's injury history we really need a third QB who could potentially keep us competitive. We can't win a single game with Pat White taking all of the snaps.

Ok, but how could they know he has improved ?? Has anyone seen this ?? I don't think they can decide on a guy without seeing him in live action.... Thiggy has starting experience. I wouldn't say he's worthless by any stretch. However, an injury to Henne and we would really be missing a Thiggy... I'm not sold that Penny, as good as he's been for us, can carry the team any longer with his arm...

Guys seriously...unless you look at White and say he is the next Doug Flutie (short, skinny, moblie)...seriously we wont miss him at all.

Sometimes it just doesn't work out.

I mean the dude is so bad that they dont even want to waste valuable pre-season time on him and would rather give it to Thigpen and develop him better.

It was a reach pick, it back fired on them, move on.

I would have to agree with you. If Sparano & Co are making us believe as though Thiggy is the man and Pat is the oddball, then maybe the rest of the NFL is "believing" the same thing. This could be intentional.

If Thiggy IS trade bait, then we will get more for him if teams "believe" that we are higher on him than Pat. If teams believe we like Pat to the point that we are left in the position of either keeping 4 QBs or trading Tyler, then we lose trade leverage IMO. The other 31 teams would have the upper hand and could low ball us. However, if the other 31 teams believe that we're not high on White (no pun intended), then we have all the trade leverage. It could be the difference between an extra round or 2 in compensation. Just a possibility.

I'm usually a great 'conspiracy theory' guy but I'm not too sure about this. They have ties to White that involve their pride (you know, like admitting that they goofed with the pick). I don't think any of the proposed conspiracies in professional football are quite that complicated or involved.... I think they'll wait until they have to make a move before they do. I think they are disappointed in what White has shown, but I also think they are still holding out some hope for him. This being an uncapped year has given the teams flexibility to discard mistakes without any cap ramifications as well might be reason for some of the moves they have made.

Another theory here is that perhaps this is White's way of getting out of here ?? Maybe he's the one who is either unhappy that they didn't do things differently or that they want him to switch to another position or that maybe he just wants to play baseball instead....Could he be tanking things just to get released ?? He, in all likelihood, won't be any kind of trade bait.

At any rate, I just wish someone would make a move....
