Not really true. I had pretty crappy explosion when coming out of my starts and breaks when I first played and it improved 10x when I started training INTENSELY in the offseason. His explosion isn't even that bad, its just not good...yet
I think you're dreaming. I've seen young athletes develop explosion with the proper training. And I've seen poorly conditioned athletes gain explosion when they drilled and improved their conditioning. I have not seen already conditioned athletes in their mid 20's make significant gains. I think in Turner's case he simply lacks the fast twitch muscle fibers. He is what he is. He may improve his technique with enough hard work, but he's not going to significantly improve his explosion.
Very nice...it would be better if it had truth instead of facts. You could copy and paste that and sub any three players' names for Turner, Moore and Wallace and fool some of the people some of the time.
Moore is not good at giving/throwing head in his routes. Moore is not good at recognizing the high cut and low cut on routes. Wallace is crappy at sinking his hips at the right depth in his routes. Please don't EVER give me that bs about "I could sub three players names and fool people".
I'm not going to knock on Moore, but his plays were 2 catches. One of them he was left WIDE OPEN because the defense faltered, and the other he had a LB covering him. For all the route running problems people say about Turner, Moore barely got separation on that deep out that got batted down because he didn't sink his hips and explode out of his break.
The keys to being a successful WR in the NFL are the ability to gain separation and catch the ball. Turner has never shown the ability to gain separation. Moore has shown greater ability to gain separation. I'm not saying he's a threat to start, there are flaws in his game, but he is way ahead of Turner. If we had to rely on Turner to be a 3rd or 4th WR at some point this season, I wouldn't expect much. If we had to rely on Moore to be a 3rd or 4th WR at some point this season, I would expect that we would get a few plays.
Turner does have route problems though. It's not just people saying it. He extended an out route too long last night, and rounded it off instead of cutting sharply. He left Thiggy hanging onto the ball and almost caused a sack.
I agree. I was extremely disappointed with Turner last night. When I went to TC he was running crisp routes and for some reason he reverted back to crappy route running.
That is the thing with Pat Turner, he has talent that you can see, but he is just not consistent enough to play, round of that route and wind up with a Int being thrown in a regular season game.
He still got separation on that play, it just was the wrong route depth. Thigpen screwed up the play even more by throwing a crap ball off his back foot.
I believe that Turner has more talent that Moore or Walace, although not yet developed. In this very close battle of WR's, I have to go with the higher ceiling in Turner.
Right, which was partially Turners fault. Thigpen was ready to release the ball and in position to do so about a second earlier.
I would agree if Turner did not keep reverting back to mistakes that the coaches have been working with him on since last season. Moore seems to be improving each time he goes on the field. He made a great move on the Lb on his second catch, and that was instinctive. They most definitely need to keep him somehow, and Pruitt as well. Most likely at least one will be on the practice squad but you can bet some teams have their eyes on them.
Turner runs with the grace of Joey Haynos.........when I see him play it's hard to imagine that he was even drafted, much less taken in the 3rd round. Not only should he not be in the mix, he's the least talented of those fighting for that 5th spot. Certainly behind Moore and Pruitt..... Going with him over either of those two would just compound the mistake they made in drafting him...
After seeing them be willing to let go of some high draft picks, I would hope that if this is the case, that they're willing to let Turner go, IF they indeed think one of the other 3 are better in their eyes..
I think in most cases it's pretty evident that draft or free agent signing status does not give the players we bring in much if any extra leeway to perform. Cutting for example Turner and White won't make them look any more stupid for drafting them in the first place, than they look for giving a big FA deal to the likes of Gibril Wilson, then cutting him a year later, when the very cerebral Renaldo Hill could have been retained for less than half the money. If we keep Turner, and cut Moore, Pruitt, and Wallace, I'll believe the coaches really think Turner has the most ability to develop and help this team. That said, I'll be a little surprised if it happens in this case. Moore is being used as gunner in practices and if we see him get to do so in games, it helps his odds of making the roster. Turner has never had a reputation of being a good special teams contributor in any capacity. The #5 WR will need to earn his keep on STs while he develops.
