doesn't sound like he was even asked what he thought of the Dolphins chances this year. bias reporting there.
I admire the guy, he is a Fin to the bone but picks who he thinks without the Aqua colored shades. But he is wrong!
"They won it last year, and it's hard to pick against Tom Brady." Well there you have it, Shula getting soft in his old age.
We will see,we weren't supposed to do anything in the 08-09 season either? And who is Don shula, come on!!!
What is with Shula? He must be in love with New England or something. I remember a few years ago when he came out and said something negative about the Pat's for the spy gate issue. Then, suspiciously, the next day he changed his comments on the subject. I have been a Don Shula fan my whole life, but it is starting to look like he is being told what to say and what not to say.
Don Shula is a Miami Dolphin to his core, but he is also two other things: an iconoclast, and unflinchingly honest.
I'm getting pretty sick of Tim Graham trying to get former Dolphins to talk **** about the current Dolphins for the sake of "shock" value.
Those are pretty honest comments from Shula... I think most people agree that the AFC East is very competitive and can have 1 or 2 wildcard spots. There's no reason to think the Patriots won't be solid as always. The Jets have a powder-cake away schedule with almost all of their tuff games at home. Miami is the biggest unknown with a lot of new pieces on defense and an assumption of Henne's maturation, along with a tuff away schedule. I can us going anywhere from 8 to 11 wins, depending on how we gel, luck, and injuries. That's anywhere from missing the playoffs to winning the division... It's going to be an exciting year
IMO NE is not a tough enough or physical enough team. They do have that potent passing game so they are always a threat to beat anyone, but they are a team in decline. The Jets are a bigger threat to take the division than NE is. They definitely have talent and have gotten better. But I think this Revis thing will be big. The media has been acting like it will inevitably get done, but I think that the odds right now are greater that he sits out the year than that he plays. If that happens their defense will take a step back. I also think that their running game will take a step back with the loss of their leading rusher. The x-factor is Sanchez. I think he'll be better in his 2nd year, but I don't know if it will be enough if the other areas take a step back. I think it's close enough that any of the three (NE, NYJ, Miami) could take the division, but if I had to bet my house, I'd bet Miami takes it. I think that QBs usually take that big step in their third year and with the weapons surrounding him I think Henne is in a good position to take that step. The question for most will be the defense, but I think that was more of a scheme issue than a talent issue last year. Nolan will address those scheme problems and we upgraded the talent to boot. I think in the end the division will turn on who does better between Sanchez and Henne. I think the odds favor Henne as he enters his third year.
Hmm well since the Phins have no shot to win the division until Brady retires in 5-7 years, let's go to sleep and wake up in 2016 when we have a chance to win the division.
Yeah, I didn't like that quote too much. I am sure he was being honest and answering the question but I feel since you were the face of the Dolphins for 20+ years or so that you would favor Miami. But hey what do I know??
I don't agree with his conclusion, but I respect him more for being honest than I would if he were just a cheerleader. I also thought it was classy of him to mention JT and say that he was a fan.
He was probably pullin everyones chain. ...or just constipated. It happens with seniors, ask him after he's pinched a stubborn Jet, no doubt he'll have an entirely different perspective.
...anybody that would pick the 'Phins is simply a blind homer. I mean, I would, but I know what I am. The Jets are the "hyped-up" favorite and the Patriots are the proven favorite. Damn near everyone is going to pick one of those teams as the favorite to win the AFCE...
Come on, Folks. Shula, even if he is approaching dementia as one person had the audacity to write, has forgotten more about football than anyone here has ever known. And, to be equally honest, this year's team has a lot more question marks than exclamation points, and is one big IF! The point being, IF everything we hope to be true about the new faces on defense, the maturation of Henne, the solidifying of the interior OL, the solid citizenship of Marshall, the return from injury of Brown, the emergence of anyone for the free safety, AND a good season free from the injury bug is in the offing, then we could, IF all of those things break in favor of the Dolphins, win the division, and progress farther into the playoffs. But, that ball is shaped funny and bounces weird. Anything can happen on that field. Shula knows that better than any of us. To castigate him for being honest is, to put it bluntly, ridiculous. We All Hope Fervently to see the Dolphins in the playoffs, win the division, win the conference, and win the Super Bowl. Is it likely this year... Not Hardly. Is it possible? Yes!! But how possible.... THAT'S WHY WE WATCH THE GAMES.... And the season is rapidly nearing..... HALLELUJAH!!!!!!
