That's just silly. You watch too much ESPN. You don't like all the Favre talk, don't watch ESPN. They manufacture all the hype. Besides, it generates interest in the NFL. Never would happen.
Out of all the things I wanted to see on this Dolphins site, reading about Farve's latest(escapade) retirement is the last thing I needed to read. What a joke this old man turned out to be and whatever legacy he had in IMHO was lost a few years ago. I will tell my grandkids of how he was a very good QB and also how he led people on and on and on and on with his BS. All because he didn't want to practice. He flat out lied to everyone and left them hanging to the end for 4 years straight and most of the public fell for it.
Remember one thing. In 2008, we had a confirmed and carried out retirement ceremony/presser that turned out to be bad reporting lol. I won't trust an unconfirmed report.
There's a big difference between generating interest and annoying the hell out fans that are watching these programs for actual news or entertainment. Most want to see what's happening in their teams camps right now. Not watch Mr. Attention Whore hijack yet another preseason. The steroid stuff in baseball was all over the news as well..... and it did as much good for that league as this Brett Favre crap does for football. Thanks for your advice tho.... clueless as it may be.
Thought we changed the subject to A-Rods #600 chase. ESPN has been infatuated with the Yankees/Redsox/Patriots/Farve for a while now. I agree ,most want to see what's going on in their camp. I don't watch ESPN that much anymore because they set their own agenda.
It wouldnt be the start of a new season without some Favre drama.Likes others I will believe it when I see it. Favre was a great QB in his heyday but I am not afraid to face him anymore as he has become the gift that keeps on giving .Interceptions that is . Having said that his saavy is more dangerous to face than Jackson or the other backups. It would be a plus for the Dolphins to face their backup QBs in their matchup IMO.
Good point, the last thing the commissioner wants is people talking about his brand. The day I believe Farve retires is the day after the superbowl and he hasn't returned. Then there is always next year.
I assume you skipped the rest of the thread, where I reiterated that I didn't create the thread for the purpose of discussing the annual Favre saga. Only how it alters our Week 2 matchup now that he's (seemingly) out of the picture. You don't need to remind me what kind of site this is. I'm well aware of it.
Newsflash to Bretty fever. Dan Marino only retired once, you broke that record too. Go the **** home already. The Dolphins killed your last chance w/ the yets, you killed your last chance with the Vikings.
Does Farve really make that much difference in beating the Vikes? At some point in time this hound will run outta gas, both at the mike and on the field, 2010 could well be that year! I'm bettin the Vikes go to the well one to many times! As for the other two QB's I give us a clear advantage while with Farve I like our odds straight up. In point of fact I'm more concerned with their defense and how Henne will fare against them but clearly BM can make a difference in that game against that defense. Imvho.
I am more interested in the rumored Brett Favre dong shots than I am him retiring or not...wait. That aside, the gameplan has GOT to change if Jackson/Rosenfels is behind center instead of Favre. I would imagine that Adrian Peterson becomes even more important and a bigger part of Minnesota's offensive attack if Brett isn't there. Depending on how our defensive backfield comes together, we may be able to make Minnesota a one dimensional team. With Favre, even with him being 67 years old, he can still sling it into a tight space and make you pay if you sleep on him. I am not sure if Jackson or Rosenfels offer that.
Not so much...Favre is 100%, without a doubt, completely certain coming back. He is as certain to be on the Vikings as Pennington is to be on the Fins. This is his annual game that he plays to make certain the news focuses on him. I hope our pass rush is in good form by then and I hope we bury his old, narcissistic self. Win or lose, I want Favre to go down, and go down hard.
Thing is, with this clown, it doesn't matter if it's confirmed or not...I wouldn't believe he's retired until mid season and he's not back... Just make a decision or at least, tell the truth..he doesn't want to attend TC....then be done with it...
Um, his numbers from last year: 4202 yards, 33 TDs, 7 INTs To say you're not afraid to face him is very silly IMO, any defense that thinks like that will get torched, add to that the AP factor, Percy Harvin, Sidney Rice, Shiancoe he's got a LOT of targets (assuming everybody heals up I know they have quite a few injuries at the moment). If Favre heals up and plays close to 100% he will be VERY dangerous I don't care how old he is.
meh, if the teams don't have to tell a player they are trying to trade/get rid of him. Why should the players have to do the same?
No offense, but it's funny how this is the last thing you wanted to read, but it sure didn't stop you from commenting in detail on it.
No seriously, I'm getting tired of this favre bullshlacka. Who cares, he is not a dolphin, nor is he being traded to the phins. If you are going to post farve stuff, then post T.O. stuff because we are playing the Bengals too, and while your at it post Jets business and steeler things as well. Where do we draw the line? I hear the same rumors and stagnant speech on ESPN and NFL network, there is no need for it in our beloved phins forum IMHO.
Favre will always be one of the greatest players to man the QB position and I won't take that away from him. It is very sad however the way he has diminished himself in the eyes of most NFL fans with his selfish indulgences the past 5 years. He may be one of the first men ever inducted in the HOF someday to actually be booed by some fans. I hope he retires, but to his credit, I hope he does mostly because without him playing for the Vikes, we have a better chance at winning that game. However if we are to consider ourselves serious contenders and the Dolphins are indeed ready to take their game to the elite levels of the NFL then I would actually rather Favre plays so we beat the Vikes at their best.
This deals with our start (which admittedly I got mixed up Week 1 and Week 2) and how we will approach a coming opponent. We've started terribly the past six seasons and it's cost us the playoffs. Even the beat writers were talking 2-0 start when this story opened. I don't know how many times I have to repeat myself for people to understand the topic of discussion I was attempting to create. You don't want to talk about the Favre saga. Guess what, neither did I. Looking back I probably should have given the thread a better title. Pretty sure the reaction would have been different.
It's a forum. I thought everyone commented on here. Sorry bout' that. Next time I'll write it on a piece of paper and mail it to my Dolphin friends.
It's most definitely relevant conversation, we are playing them week 2, and it matter's towards win's and losses who's behind center....There is nothing wrong with this thread...If he retires its bigger news for us than most.
I might have overreacted, but I tired of hearing about Brett. Thats the only thing ESPN wants to talk about, like a broken record. Obviously the Viking's will be less Dynamic if he does not return. I would feel much better knowing we don't have to go against him. Then again I kinda wanted to beat them with Brett, so the fins could show they are a force to be reckoned with.
Aside from the "will he or won't he retire" bit, the NFL is more interesting with Brett in it. If just for the Packer-Viking games. That said, I'd love to see Brett stay retired until the Vikes go 0-2 to start the season (I'll gladly take a 2-0 start for the Phins). He can come out of retirement at that time, to all the glory and fanfare he wants, to "save" the Viking season. It's a win-win for Viking and Dolphin fans!
i dont see what the problem of what farve is doing. 1. hes not on my team so i could care less if he plays or not were going to win. 2. because hes 40 he has to know if hes going to be committed to an entire 16+ games the problem is everyone asking the question over and over and over again is he going to play is he going to retire? just let farve do farve leave the man alone
I gotta tell you, Favre or no Favre in week 2 I'm surprised at how many people seem to be counting the Bills game as a win already. Quite frankly, that game has me worried. Sure, they're most likely not as good as we are, and that should be by quite a margin. But I'd rather have those 2 games reversed- open at Minnesota and then go to Buffalo. Bad teams always seem to be their most dangerous in week 1. Even last year Buffalo almost beat NE in Foxborough to start the season, and past history has shown that win or lose, the Bills haven't played a bad game on opening day in almost a decade. Add in that they are division rivals and beat us in their place last year, and I just don't see why so many fans and beat writers act as if winning in Buffalo is a fait accompli. I just hope I'm dead wrong on this one.
I know they can win, but i don't see it, buffalo is a mess right now and their oline is just a wreck. Their rookie RB held out of the first half of camp to boot. They might be turning things around there, but we seriously outmatch them. I know they could suprise us, but we have a great coaching staff with disciplined players. I don't think were as succeptable to suprise games like we may have been in the past. As for week 2, i really hope farva isn't playing yet, he completely adds a new dimension to that team, it creates seam passes to shianco, deep passes to Berrian, slant routes to Rice and prevents you from stacking the box on AP, who is not splitting time anymore. With no farve you can look to spy AP more and stack it on him. Farve creates a ton of mismatches for any Minny opponent. It would be fantastic if he wasn't playing in week 2.
You know, maybe I'd be agreeing with you if I watched ESPN. I barely watch TV so I guess it's not worn me down like a lot of people.
Good points. They've been good early and we've lost 6 of our last 7 openers. Funny how that became the norm after winning it every year. Would seem like a classic trap game if we weren't so bad lately (early).
