By other players, you mean? There's no really other way to sign players other than transfer window, scout system and your Youth Academy. You can go to transfer window and sign free agents. Just give them weekly wages instead of a transfer fee.

The short list is created by you. You find a player on another team and if you don't have the funds at the moment to purchase him or want to see how someone else develops on your squad before deciding to purchase a player, you can press Square (its square on PS2 at least) and he will be added to the short list. Later on, you can come back and you'll find the player that you were interested in.

Well, during my last season, I think it was an incoming message that said another team is rumored to be interested in one of your players, you should make sure he's signed long term (the player has four years left on his contract, so I don't get that, possible glitch). if someone is rumored to be interested in my team, how can I be interested in someone else who is not in the transfer window list (for sale). Outside the transfer window, can I view other teams and add their player I'm interested in to the shortlist, and then when the transfer window pops up again, he'll be there? I just don't see how a player will be in the transfer window available (for sale) if the team that has his rights doesn't want to let him go (or extends him against his wishes).

Signed long term usually means more wages weekly for him IMO.

No, you can't view outside of the transfer window, to my knowledge. You can add that player to the shortlist whilst viewing the transfer window (regardless of the individual being for sale, for loan, for etc.). And yes, the player will still be on your short list in the next transfer window. Usually if you shell out enough money, you can purchase players. The only reasons I've had teams not sell me a player is because they are either rivals, don't have enough players on their squad to be able to sell him or they simply don't want to because he's a rising talent.

    Questions for you FIFA vets:

    1) Why is it that everyone on my team in manager mode is losing points in their overall (poor form I think)? I always blast the computer. It doesn't make much sense that Rooney would go from 87 to 86 after scoring twice.

    2) Any tips on crossing/heading? My game is almost exclusively on the ground. I know how to cross and get in to position but every time my dude gets a good attempt at a header, it goes 40 feet over the net, even if I barely tap shoot. This is especially true on corners. Is there anyway to aim down when you head it?

Yeah I'm totally confused, if you couldn't tell by now... In the transfer window, the only names that show up in my player list are ones that are for sale... i can't see every player on every team during that time. I believe, outside the transfer window, I can... but I can't do anything with those players (add to short list, negotiate with). I can only see how much their market value is.

    1. It might have to do with fatigue. It happens with my players.

    2. Point down with the analog. That's what I do and it works for me. Also, if that doesn't work, use the analog stick to gain positioning in your favor and that way, you can receive the ball, set it down on the ground and kick it in quickly.

Try using one of the L and R buttons to get the choice of league and team. At the bottom of that pop-up menu, there should be an option for changing "Available for Transfer" to "All".

Thanks. Would you recommend that I let the computer manage my lineups?

Formation or players used? If its formation, then yes most of the time. I use the standard line up usually or if I switch, it's usually to a 4-4-2. If players, then it depends on who is out there. For example when I play with Arsenal, I usually take out guys like Denilson, Diaby, etc. Just because I've watched them play for years now and haven't been impressed.

Yeah, it depends on what team you use and how you know the players. In the game, I've learned who is good and who isn't pretty quickly. I know who is and isn't in real life but it's not always the same in the game. I've played over 10 season of MM with Arsenal so I have a pretty good idea of who is good and bad on the game lol.

Not working.. it's only the players that are for sale, which is a pretty weak group of guys, nobody with transfer fees over $10m...

So, the transfer window closed... and now when I go to the transfer list, it lists 12 pages of the highest rated players from the EPL only. I can add any of those players to the shortlist, I can't negotiate with them until the transfer window starts up again. I'll see what happens at that point (I'm not there yet), but I would assume I can't sign them since they aren't "for sale"...

Letting the computer manage the lineups has no effect on experience gained by each player right? BC I see guys who are in the 50's gaining experience by just sitting on my bench when I'm managing the lineups. So that leads to my next question, what does effect experience growth rates? I've heard it depends on who the player is playing against (are they better than him) I can't imagine that's true.

I just simmed my way to the next transfer window with two guys on the shortlist... I then bid on each player, it allowed me to do that, raised the % of success as high as possible, it was 76 % for each of them, all to have each player reject my offer. Neither player gave a reason for why they didn't sign (like they normally do)

That's odd. There's got to be something to see all players. Did you check the handbook in the case?

No, not to my knowledge. My players have gotten better playing against the likes of Hull City. It may show in their post-game ratings but I don't think it has an overall effect until the end of the season. That's how it is for me at least.

Btw, here's one for you Liverpool fan. (read: Paul)

    From Paul Tomkins.

Back in March, Rafa told me that #LFC missing out Chamakh was a "massive mistake". Sounds like he's settling in well at Arsenal

No, I don't think you read that right. Rafa Benitez simply said it was a mistake to miss out on Chamakh in the transfer window. The reason being is because the guy is pretty good, albeit inconsistent (IMO). He's very good up top as the lone striker and dishes off the ball well. He's also good with his back turned to the goal, which I think we lack. Plus he brings a little aerial ability, which God knows we lack outside of maybe Vermaelen lol.

Btw, Koscielny appears to be fitting in decently. I'm doing my best not to get caught up in these reports since it is still early but a lot of people said he's a right footed Vermaelen and he's very tenacious. That excites me. Still, his frame scares me slightly.

caught part of the Liverpool friendly loss from today... they had about four or five regulars in, including Joe Cole, who looked quite good from what I saw. I'm eager to see what he can do once Torres is in, I think they'll link up quite well with Gerrard. Now if they can just find a LB and CDM...:pity: I've also never been high on Johnson...

    Mascherano leaving IIRC?

I just got done watching Arsenal and Celtic. We still need a new goalie. And we still need another centre back.

Yeah, Mascherano is leaving... and there's a few guys they are going after as a replacement. Parker from West Ham being one.

Parker's a good player IMO. Fan of his. I was talking to Simon on Twitter and he said they are after Defour from Stand de Leige (sp?). Good player and a nice coup IMO.

How does FIFA 10 manager mode stack up against Championship Manager? I've been a long time CM player and the EA offerings never came close. They had some pretty graphics, but the underlying simulation engine was horrible.

And By CM, I mean Football Manager, I always forget the original team left to form FM.

Fleck is a good player for me, I've got him up to 71 now, he doesn't play every game as I like to switch players around to develop more players. Quite good on the ball, he is quite quick and he has a few tricks in him. Usually get a good ball in from him too. Fleck for Fifa domination!

I've been playing Captain Your Country on Fifa 10 World Cup with my buddies a ton the last few days. Anyone else play that mode? It's really addicting with friends and a ton of fun despite it's obvious flaws. I'm wondering if they'll have something like it in Fifa '11.
