Unless the "new" Jason Allen looks like this ...I really just don't care for this story. It's been 4 years of lowering expectations with that guy. I don't expect jack from J-Allen at this point.
Ok.... now I read it this time. If a young kid can't handle sitting behind someone who might "hypothetically" (I repeat- HYPOTHETICALLY) be better at THIS JUNCTURE, then the kid has some serious mental issues, is a liability, and shouldn't be starting in the first place if he's that unstable. What kind of message does this send to the rest of your team when they see you showing favoritism like this?--- that you'd actually sit someone who is "hypothetically" more deserving of starting?! Who do you think this kind of poor player management TRULY affects? You're only thinking about Smith. What about the bigger picture?..... What about the rest of the team, veterans, etc who watch this bias transpire? You don't think actions like this can deaden the morale (to a degree) of the rest of the team? All you're doing is teaching them that hard work and dedication isn't rewarded appropriately. Then all of a sudden you have a bunch of guys playing for themselves as our precious sense of team hurls itself out a 12th story window. LOL
Ugh. This is what happens when a "fringe" guy sticks around, and sticks around, and sticks around...eventually somebody goes down, or they can't find the player they want, or some self-styled "genius" coach gets it in his head that he can make Shinola from ****. For the record: I would LOVE it if Allen suddenly "got it" and became even half the player the gurus thought he would be. But it's not going to happen. What will happen is that maybe, at best, Allen will shine a bit in preseason only to **** the bed when it counts. That's who he is.
Obviously judging by the rant your beef is more with Sparano than with me. I'm not sure what to tell you but hey if you think Will Allen not starting kills the locker room...except that might be a little premature. The throwing Smith under the bus witch hunt has come way too early IMO.
Especially when you conisder that Marshall has been torching EVERYONE. Honestly I'd be more worried if Brandon had been practicing like garbage.
Your last few words are the keywords IMO. The two that stand out to the most are "mental mistakes" and I think that's something that you can't have at the backline of your defense. Some disagree with me that safety is not a important position and a "core" position, to quote Ireland, but I think it is. A smart safety makes your defense from bad to respectable. A smart and physically talented safety takes your defense from respectable to elite IMO. Jason Allen lacks the make up at the safety position IMO, therefore he has not succeeded at the job he was brought in to do.
There isn't one safety in the league that's on Ed Reed's level IMO. Not one. When Reed is fit, its tough to argue against him. The late Sean Taylor was getting very good at the position IMO, as he became more disciplined, but his potential was never realized because of unfortunate circumstances, as we all know. One guy I really like at FS is Tanard Jackson of Tampa. He was a cornerback in college and they've made him into a real nice player IMO.
Range has little to do with speed.. JA is not a good defensive player. He's a good not great STs player. But that's it.
interesting... nothing I haven't heard before about Jason & many other players let's see how the season unfolds wishing the best possible year for every Miami Dolphin on the roster this has become, as often it does a forum bashing session (attack mode) maybe the negativity & venom are justified, maybe they are not only the coach makes the decision as to who plays where on this team & his decisions will have to play the game the defensive backfield is a work in progress much to be done to get to NFL level competition & not much time to get it right for the season the FreeSafety remains our Achilles's heel this is reality...
I think it depends on how many decisions you force him to make. I don't believe for a second that Clemons would have only made 1 mental error in 200 some snaps this TC if he were playing in Saban's system. I also think that J. Allen would have made considerably fewer mental errors even as a rookie if he were being used as Clemons is now. When you have physically talented athletes who try hard, they will eventually have seen most everything that can be thrown at them and then the decisions become easier. I think of the QB Testaverde, who was dumb as a box of rocks and playing a mentally challenging position. Even he was eventually considered a "smart, veteran QB" simply b/c he hung around long enough and had seen just about everything enough times.
Not sure if I agree with this concept. To quote Vic Koenning, the defensive coordinator at Clemson during Clemons tenure... Thats basically 3 years without a major gaffe or mental mistake. On the other hand, Jason Allen has a mental lapse about every 8-10 plays.
Two things I am NOT buying yet: 1. That Jason Allen has reinvented himself 2. That Patrick Turner has reinvented himself
For me, I always thought JA was more of an in the box safety because of his size and speed combination, but failing that I thought he would be a good Cb blitzer for the same reason. As for those who wish to see Jason Allen at Safety..dude just never showed aptitude for the job, he is a decent backup Cb/Special Teamer, I think he can do a bit more than he has and think if Allen has anything, Mike Nolan will bring it out of him.
Range has more to do with Angles, ability to get jumps and ability to make reads. Speed is rendered useless when the guy doesnt start running till the ball is almost in the receivers arms. Speed obviously has some to do with range. But saying someones 40 time in regards to their range means nothing.
You can take the best angle possible but if you don't have closing speed, you will lose more often than not. Allen has that! Jason Allen at least showed he could make a play or two at Safety. Albeit very very few times, he's been better there than at Cb.
Jason Allen will get an honest, unbiased look from Coach Nolan berate no one. support all & let them compete. be not surprised
don't know what the Almighty has to say about the Dolphins or how he would say it....pretension has its limits...just not gonna go there
With all respect, it is sometimes hard for me to comprehend perfect english which makes it alot harder to sometimes understand all of your meanings....

I wonder if any Dolphin defender has the range of Jason Allen, in a physical sense. Whether his mind can get him where he needs to be is another issue. I keep going to training camp a couple of years ago- Jason Allen was maybe THE physical standout of the whole team- dude was fast and moved like a big cat. Extremely impressive. Then the team started scrimmaging- Allen was almost always near where he should be but was consistently getting beat. Dude was not a play maker. Then again, in the regular season when he got in the games he made some plays- int against Chicago iirc. He's a physically gifted tease who never put it all together- he's a ST standout and a decent backup DB. That's his niche, that's his role, that's his legacy. Nothing to write home about, but he serves a purpose. Carroll will overtake him quickly if he hasn't already.
One thing is for sure... If the coaches didn't see something in him...he'd be gone by now. He is obviously better than gerbil wilson.
just never know watch the two forum whipping boys under the new defensive coordinator may be in for a surprise Jason Allen & Channing Crowder may finally come into their own w/Nolan just never know PS wouldn't sell Solai short either
