So Cobbs is the default Returner, so his knee is not an issue and the young guys will have to knock him off the hill so to speak to win the Job. Hmm, here the Sparano philosophy of coaching them into our system rather than maximizing what they do well already is a speed bump for Mr. Turner I'm still not in love with moving Starks to NT. We'll see, I'd think Ikaika has reached the point where Daniel-San has to go fight in the tournament and see what he can do when the faux bullets are flying in. I think we had an Offensive Coordinator move up into the box and changed everything for the better? Well, if one wishes to see basically preseason quality football at no cost, this would be the event to attend. First Turner, now Carrol, you have to wonder how technically sound a player has to be to see the field? Oh, now THAT is nice, Joe Namath stroking Jason Taylor..bleech..
Thanks for the tweets. Some good nuggets in there. With reference to the Monday night practice, is anyone going to the stadium? Season ticket holders are reportedly having a 'special seating area' reserved for them, and (rumor) may have the opportunity to watch from the field. 6 or 8 of us from SW Kendall are planning to attend. Should be fun.
Jt is a fish out of water on that team....gross. for all i care he an stick joe namath up his *** and tweet.
# The fly in the ointment at center I wrote about in my blog is Andrew Hartline is working with first team. Jake Grove second team. 22 minutes ago via TweetDeck WR Brandon Marshall and Rb Patrick Cobbs not practicing. Cb will Allen also not working. Just resting. http://twitter.com/ArmandoSalguero
Are you think of Linehan (sp?) - OC when Saban was here? It was the opposite - team improved immensly when he left the booth and stayed on the sideline.
I think we all have to be concerned about Cobbs as the 'default' returner...our return game without Ginn would have been putrid....
I've said during the offseason that Cobbs was the incumbent and Ginn was just a replacement due to Cobbs' injury. This is one time I would have loved to be wrong. Just makes drives that much longer for the offense.
EthanJSkolnick Joe Namath to JT: "It's good to see you in green, the kind we wear, you know, not that funky green they wear down there in South Florida." Don't you mean that FILTHY green pantyhose joe? Sickest colorway in the NFL, contrare to the Puke Green jerseys that the Jests wear.
Rookie cornerback Reshad Jones picked off a pass intended for Ronnie Brown [some in the media think it was going to Brian Hartline] for what would have been a pick-six. I know you’re sensing a trend here. Henne needs to work on those dump-off and screen passes. Can anyone say TOUCH?…. Patrick Turner made a nice catch on Sean Smith from Henne, continuing his respectable training camp. Truthfully speaking, I don’t remember it enough to describe the play though. But I did find it alarming that Smith was working with the second team, behind Jason Allen. That’s right. Jason Allen was starting on Thursday afternoon and Smith was his backup. Clearly the coaches are sending Smith, who hasn’t been as sharp as last year’s training camp, a message. He didn’t help his cause when Julius Pruitt, a practice squad member last season, beat Smith on a fade in the back corner of the endzone for what would have been a touchdown during the team’s red zone work. I would take Smith’s demotion a little bit more seriously if it was rookie Nolan Carroll, and not Jason Allen, who replaced him. Speaking of Carroll, I had my first conversation with him today and must admit I left ultra impressed. He’s an intelligent and articulate guy. He also told me he hadn’t returned a kick since his rookie season at Maryland, but the coaches convinced him he could do it considering he runs a 4.36 in the 40. “I’m happy to do whatever it takes to make this team,” Carroll said…. The tight ends actually made an appearance today. They’re here everyday, but usually invisible. Anthony Fasano was wide open enough to catch what they call a rail along the left sidelines, and he scored a touchdown by running the final 10 yards. There was clearly a coverage breakdown. Not sure who was responsible, but Jones was the closest defender to Fasano, who went into motion, going from the right to left side of the line before the snap…. And finally, here’s something that should lift your spirits…. making you feel like a second-round pick wasn’t wasted in 2009. Pat White had a respectable practice. The former West Virginia standout engineered two scoring drives during the little action he got in the team’s redzone session. White threw a touchdown on a fade to Roberto Wallace, and he drove the team down field, allowing the offense to rush for another score. http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sport...ins+|+Sun-Sentinel+Blogs)&utm_content=Twitter
it is what it is. a wakeup call to smith to get his head out of his ***. same with hartline starting over grove. the only thing that this indicates to me is will allen shouldnt be discounted as a starter just yet
I don't think so. Sparano was quoted as saying Nolan Carroll needed more reps and then he puts up Jason Allen ahead of both him and Smith? I just don't buy it. If it continues, sure, but right now I'm not.
well if the reports that smith has been playing like crap are true then he's not going to be the starter week 1 if he continues playing like crap the entire preseason. noone is going to start who doesn't earn it. I fully expect smith to bounce back but this is a wakeup call. i expect smith to be starting again tomorrow or the weekend to prove he deserves the starting nod
But he hasn't been playing like crap. He's been beaten on a few deep balls, yes, but so has Vontae Davis, Nolan Carroll, and Jason Allen. They've all had issues with the deep ball from what I've read. He's had some struggles but I wouldn't characterize his practices as "crap". For all we know, this could be Sparano making sure there is a rep count in line, which he's done on other occasions. He tracks the reps. Sparano did say he wants everyone to get first team action so he's been rotating players.
agreed which is why I qualified it with "if". Thats why I'm getting antsy to see some games. I would rather rely on my eyes than someone else's perceptions.
I do not know if I should be happy or worried that the offense seems to be doing so well in the first week of camp.
I think Sean Smith should be worried. Will Allen was playing pretty well last year before his injury and Nolan Carroll is definitely impressing in his short time. Vontae is doing well, except against Marshall (understandable), from what I hear. I love the competition at cornerback
I've been saying all offseason that Will Allen would start over Sean Smith opposite Vontae Davis. Smith simply isn't ready yet. He's getting there but he has a ways to go. While Will Allen is one of the more underrated corners in the league.
I think most people believe that Davis and Will Allen are the most talented corners right now, the concern was that Will Allen would not be fully recovered from his injury. If, in fact, he is, then he should definitely be starting.
Totally agree with this. Reading tweets are fun and all but you get this Jones is a safety. not a knock on your cred but on the person who tweeted that
Yes, but Jason Allen will not be starting. It's between Davis, Smith and Will Allen and I think Smith will be the backup with Will moving to the nickel corner spot in 3 WR sets.
Yeah I know all that. I'll stick with Sean Smith's development as a starting CB. Someone said up there coach is counting reps and giving everyone some work. Could be that or coach is lighting a fire under his ***. Losing Nate Jones I still see Will Allen in the nickel.
I did. Couldn't find it. Was at work and the word "pantyhose" brought up some questionable non-football related photos so I settled.
I agree. I would be worried about our team if he wasn't worried about his job. He was not very good last year. Ok, he was a rookie. He should be considerably better this year. If not, move over and let someone else play.
Re; Smith, all I know is I'm glad Will Allen is back (presumably fully recovered), and Carroll is impressing, as that just gives us more options in the secondary. Honestly, I see a rotation in every aspect of our D this season. D-line, backers and secondary. There's gonna be guys rotating every play, or at least every series IMO. I really think this D is gonna open some eyes this season. We're gonna be messin' with some opposing offenses and opposing OC's. Can't wait!
I'd say happy. The D is new, the O is the same one they've run for two years now. If the O wasn't ahead first week, I'd be worried. Sent from my T-Mobile G1 using Tapatalk
Yeah the depth at CB for this year and next is nice. If Omar and Armando are correct and Smith really has been struggling then I'm not too worried that we cant easily replace him.
