Hello, I am commenting on your views... As a former Soldier that Volunteered to go to Iraq and not only fight the enemy but help the Men, Women, and Children there, you could say I have noticed your Anti Military views... That is your right though, as you are not reading this message in German or Japanese thanks to the Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and Airmen that defended your right to speak before you were born during WW2, and the troops that have continued to do so since... Your issues with the Men and Women that have served or currently serve this nation and your protests are basically like a mosquito bite to us... It goes away real quick... Your effect on the people that wear the uniform is beyond laughable... I don't know whether any of you actually served in the Military, but I am guessing no... Holding up signs saying "Thank God For IED'S and Dead Soldiers"... SERIOUSLY??? That's the best you can do??? Having been to Iraq and having seen the good and the bad, I want to ask you a simple question... Would you hold up a "Dead Soldier" sign if you knew that Soldiers built a brand new playground for Iraqi children, some that didn't even know a slide or a swingset existed??? Would you hold the sign when you heard the Soldiers evacuated a little girl and her mother to a safe combat support hospital in Baghdad after the little one was thrown down the stairs by a big tough insurgent??? She lived by the way, thanks to the USA... Would you hold the sign knowing that an entire city was provided with fresh water by Soldiers... A city that has kids running through streets flooded with raw sewage??? You are nothing but wanna-be insurgents, and like wanna-be gangsters, you are merely a minor blip on our radar screen.... So if you want to flip that flag upside down, there is plenty of international flights that will carry you out of town... As far as "God Hates ****", do you have any proof??? I could personally give a flying rat's *** if some guy is gay, as long as he knows I'm not and just lives a normal life (Unlike you people)... I have a few gay friends, and I don't understand why they are, it just doesn't make sense to me, but I'm not going to hold up a sign basically saying that GOD likes me more... What maturity level, or more correctly, what grade level have you passed??? I wouldn't put it past Junior High... I don't know who God Hates, if he does, because I haven't met him... But my guess would be it isn't the Military or people that choose to live a different lifestyle... Maybe it's closed minded IDIOTS... Like the Westboro Baptist "CHURCH"
Unfortunately this is exactly how they want people to react, I agree with your sentiment but stating how little you care about them says that you do in fact care about what they are doing, that they are in your head. Look up "Mythology" in the Dictionary.
That phrase alone should warrant some vigilante retaliation. I was never for the invasion of Iraq, but saying something like that is really f-cked up. That pisses me off.
People have long been idiots and since we all have the right to speak our minds, this is what you get from said idiots.
I was I was for the invasion... Just thought I was serving my country, and after getting back, I was educated on all the political BS and now am IVAW (Iraq Veterans against the War)... I guess it's just another life lesson, gotta go through it to get educated... About the only thing that helps me sleep is all the locals that we helped... Every other memory sucks
I wouldn't say God hates them, just doesn't understand them... It doesn't make any sense why a guy would want another guy... When gay guys get to the pearly gates, my bet is that God says "WTF??? I provide gorgeous women to you and you did what"??? Seriously???
I find the group an embarresment to the Christian Faith. They have it wrong on so many levels. I do however have an amusing story about them. I was a voting member of an Evangelical Lutheran Church in America national assembly in Indianapolis in the summer of '01. We were discussing issues regarding homosexuality and they were there picketing us. Their signs were vile and their language would have made a construction worker blush! We had been urged to ignore them since they were seeking the publicity of a confrontation. (This was before 9/11 and they started picketing military funerals) On Saturday evening they were still at it and one of their group jumped in front of a guy and called him a F'ing *** lover. The fellow decked him with one punch. The police were all over it as were the TV cameras, etc. The group was ecstatic UNTIL they discovered the fellow who did the punching was not a Lutheran heading for the convention but a Colts fan heading for an exhibition game next door at the old RCA dome! Everyone decided the confrontation did no one any good and it never got "reported". I laughed a long time. I don't mean to make light of your concerns. They are real. Questions about the Christian faith and homosexuality belong in their own thread if anyone is interested in the discussion. Serious talk about the faith does not belong in a proper thread about extremists who know nothing of the faith they claim to be "defending"!
As the resident Kansan on the board, I feel like I need to add my two cents to the antics of Fred Phelps and company, having seen them first hand on several occasions. I'd also like to apologize for them, as they're an embarrassment to the state. Honestly, they're an embarrassment to people of all faiths, as their lunacy simply hurts those who are not associated with them. My first real interaction was watching them picket me while attending a Methodist summer retreat at Baylor University while I was in high school. It was kind of surreal. Since then I've seen them first hand at various other churches and events here in Kansas. I don't know how they get away with calling themselves a church. Churches are built on a foundation of love and respect for one another. Cults are founded on hatred and violence. This group is clearly a cult. It's disgusting.
Look up Schrimp in the bible. You like Shellfish? The bible forbids their consumption. Stop it. Anybody who hides their hatred behind a 2,000 year old text rather than have the courage to tell me their problem with my lifestyle doesn't have my hate. They have my pity.
as a human, i would like to apologize for people thinking they are humans as a living organism, i apologize for all animals for thinking that's how a living breathing thing acts I wont shred a tear if the most horrific thing ever happens to any of them this group is clearly ******ed, and i apologize to.......
That's not quite true. The Israelites were forbidden in the Old Testament from eating shellfish, among other things, but that ban was lifted in the New Testament. Also, disagreeing with homosexuality doesn't mean you hate someone. I disagree with people who engage in premarital sex, but I don't hate them. I have friends who are gay, and I have friends who have premarital sex. Trying to equate disagreeing with sexual preference to hate is faulty at best.
Say what? All I said was disagreeing with homosexuality doesn't mean you hate someone. I gave an example of another sexual sin that most Christians would be against, to illustrate that disagreeimg doesn't equal hate. Stop trying to be over the top and ridiculous. and there can be a real discussion. Edit: My personal opinion on marriage...I don't believe that marriage should be granted by the government...it leads to the whole discrimination against gays where they can't get the legal benefits of marriage. The government should issue civil unions to all couples, both hetero and homo, and then if you want a marriage certificate, you get it from a church. I believe marriage to be a mostly religious thing, so, in my opinion, this sort of setup would solve te problems we have currently with gay marriage. Religious people don't want gay marriage because of the religious aspect...so, let the government only recognize civil unions. See, I don't agree with homosexuality, but I don't hate them, and I certainly respect their rights to be with who they want to be with, and to get the legal benefits of hetero couples.
I don't agree with resnor's beliefs but this is just a ridiculous assumption by you, where do you get him thinking there should be laws against people having premarital sex??
The Westboro loonies should be ignored. The less publicity they get, the better. As for their whole take on divine outlook on homosexuality is concerned, one of my fb friends is an Orthodox Rabbi. He posted the following Statement of Principles adopted by Orthodox rabbis et al. http://statementofprinciplesnya.blogspot.com/ While it does not endorse homosexuality as a lifestyle, the first two statements provide the context:
Sodom and Gomorrah were not destroyed because of gays. According to the bible they were destroyed because they stopped helping the poor. At least according to Ezekiel.
Chapter and verse? There is no question that were destroyed because of depravity. Angels, in the guise of men, came to Lot and the Sodomites wanted to "know" them, refusing Lot's offer of his daughters.
