Not sure if this was posted, but maybe, just maybe Roy should be paying more attention to his on-field performance rather than his f'n rookie shenanigans!!! That should be the issue here, not Dez refusing to carry this overpriced, bust of a bums pads. Pull your head out of your arse, Roy, and play some friggin football ya whiny baby!

I can hear him now: <Pout pout> "Mr Mr Jones, <sniff sniff (not the Lawrence Taylor kind)> Dez is refusing to carry my shoulder pads!!"

Jerry: "Well then maybe they should be on you, you wasted acquisition!"

From what he's produced on the field relative to his income, the right thing to do from his perspective imo, would be to realize introspectively that he has not earned the respect in this league to do that therefore not using those veteran privalages.

Comparing Tim Bowens to Dez Bryant gave me a good laugh. Not sure, but those defensive tackles aren't normally known for being selfish. Quite the opposite actually.

Exactly Deej..... and maybe even allow the rookies to haze Roy instead until he begins producing like a veteran. ???

Say what you will. Dez is doing his thing. He continues to be groomed by Micheal Irvin and keep his head on straight he's going to be a monster. We got players beating up their pregnant wives and are nitpicking about a guy not carring pads. I won't stick my neck out and say "I'm glad we didnt draft Dez Bryant" just so I can say, "I told you so" when he fails. The guy is a football player. I wish him the best.

Now....the only receiver I give a rats *** about is Brandon Marshall. Dez can only hope to become the freak that BM is today. Can't wait until camp.

It's not a question of his talent. It's a question of his pledging for the Dallas Cowboy fraternity. The hazing is a traditional ritual that the pledge endures because he wants to show that he wants to become a brother in all respects. It also shows his good nature and lack of self-centeredness. He bonds first with the other rookies, who go through the hazing with him, and then with the veterans, who are doing it in a spirit of fun.

Greek letter fraternities have had these traditions for over a hundred years for a reason. People who take hazing badly are more likely to be self-centered than group-centered. The purpose of the hazing is to pick out the self-centered ones. With Dez, it has accomplished its purpose. The guy has been through a lot in his life, and his self-centeredness is understandable. But he, and those who think it's silly, miss the point of it.

In football, when you are an unusual talent and the other team focuses its tender mercies on you, it's good to have your brothers around you.

As a member of a GLO, I definitely feel that those who don't participate in "rituals" are considering themselves above tradition, individuals, and weak.

But in the grand scheme of things if a brother decides to "Just pay his money" I can't fault him. He's still my brother (technically) and if he's down with the fundamental purposes of my organization than I can accept him as a brother. Will he be chastized and mocked for not going through "a process" ? Yes. But does that mean he can't be a member of the team? No.

Whether folks like Dez's willingness to go against the grain or not, he's a part of the team and will be a baller. They aren't going to cut him...he's not going anywhere. Just like everything else...suck it up. If you act on it...you're hurting your chances of going to the Superbowl by causing a rift.

Sounds like I would have liked to have been in your house. But what concerns me is not whether he can be a member of the team. It's his attitude toward the other players, and how they will react to him. If he wants to punch in, do his job and punch out, he can. It isn't going to add anything to the locker room and off the field time, though.

My point exactly. There is something for the other players to suck up, ignore and go forward. Wouldn't it be a lot easier for one guy to go along and carry the pads?

It would be much easier! Definitely!

But young guys usually make stands and take on moral battles for idiological fortification I guess. It's why they make the best protestors. But if you're a VET trying to get to the Super Bowl....I'd just take it on the chin....let him be a dick. But when the time comes around for other rookies to come in...he better not participate..I don't want him at my golf tournament...don't come to my house on Friday to play Madden either. You are bout football only....not being a team....so our relationship is strictly professional. See you at the facility. No we aren't going fishing....you aren't invited to the BBQ with my closed friends. We aren't friends....we are coworkers. You made that clear when you decided to not participate in what it takes to be a member of the team....as opposed to a member of the organization.

Dez lost his deal with Under Armour

I agree with Jetssuck that a lot of folks are grasping at straws to bash Dez, and I do think he'll be an exceptional talent.

However, you have to wonder where his head is.
