he could have signed with any of the teams in the NFL but he chose to sign with the jets in my book that dosent fly i dispise him a lil more now that when he was a deadskin. when he no longer wears that shade of green maybe ill accept him again but until then JT is the enemy and he can die for all I care

He had 42 tackles while playing out of position. To go along with 7 sacks. one int, and 3 forced fumbles and he played hurt the last half of the season. There is absolutely nothing BAD about those stats when a player is in his natural position and healthy. Are they Jason Taylor like stats? Not far from a couple of seasons while he played here in his prime.

I would like nothing more for him to be totally washed up this season but from what I saw of him, and I do trust my own eyes, I don't see him not contributing to their Defense....

I sure the heck WON'T cheer him when he walks on the field, and my guess is that the Dolphins will have their Defense announced that day so the Jetsons announce their offense. That way no mention of Taylor, the Rat, will be mentioned.

Sure, when he hopefully comes back to a one day contract and retire as a Dolphin. Until then, I can't cheer for anyone wearing enemy colours, especially the freakin' Jest of all teams.

Actually that's not true. He took the only option he had. It was either the Jets or retire.

    Think of it in these terms;
Your significant other takes dance lessons and leaves you for someone in DC.
A year later you get back together but things will never be as good as they were.
Next year she runs off with some guy from the Bronx that you don't like.
At this point mabey we should cheer cuz this guy took her off your hands.

That's actually a matter of debate. JT says he was handed a post-it note by Parcells which he forwarded to his agent, but that offer was withdrawn b/c Parcells wanted no agent involved. That part was corroborated by both sides. JT didn't want to cut out his agent who had been a business partner for like 12 years. I get that and wouldn't want to screw over the guy that had been with since before I even signed with the Dolphins. The next part was a matter of debate. The Dolphins say they (a couple of months later) gave his agent a final offer, but the agent says that by they time he responded it had been withdrawn. JT never even heard about that until after it was withdrawn. My guess is that the team may have given him two offers but they were take it or leave it types without that actually having been explained. This was prior to the Dolphins getting blasted by the media for their arrogant behavior with ZT and Bryant so I think that was probably the case. So JT really never had a chance to accept the offers from Miami unless he was willing to cut out his agent. After that he had option of taking the Jet's job or retire. I would have preferred if he had gone to any other team but I'm not going to hate a guy for taking the only job he could.

JT no longer plays for the Miami Dolphins, and to top it all off, he's now part of the Jets organization. There's no way in hell I'm cheering for him. When he retires, and he's eventually inducted into the Dolphins ring of honor, then I'll cheer him, but not before then. No chance...

I don't know what lies you're referring to, but either way it is irrelevant. In this case, most of the main points have been verified and the Dolphins have handled things the exact same way with other players. There may have been two offers made but only one could have been accepted by JT since it was withdrawn immediately. The other, as confirmed by the team, would have required JT to screw over his long time agent. I don't see lies here by anybody. Maybe you believe that JT would have been a more loyal person if he had screwed his agent over and just accepted the offer on a post-it instead of later signing with the only team that he had an offer from. I don't. But that is a matter of opinion and it has nothing to do with lying on the part of JT.

He lied back in 2008 when he said he would be back the day after DWTS and instead bolted to Hollywood to hang out there leaving all his team mates hanging. That to me was the turning point with Taylor being way more into himself than the team. He was supposed to be a leader and instead he was a coward. He put himself before the team and that is where I drew the line with Taylor as a player. As far as I'm concerned he never wore a Dolphins uniform and I hope they don't waste their time putting that douchebag in the ring of honor when he retires. That would be a slap in the face to all Dolphins fans IMO.

I honestly dont get the hate for JT. The guy was about as standup a guy as I ever remember playing for us when he was in his twenties and now that he's at the end of his career he tried to get some paydays by going to the Jets and Redskins. Cant fault a player at the end of his career trying to cash a last paycheck or two. We still got the best years out of him. Its not like the guy is 27 and going to the Jets

When a guy says he would trade his whole team for Tom Brady it is easy not to like him. Sorry he is a liar and he is selfish and to me that was before he left. Now he is a Jet which is what I think he deserves. I hope the hypocrite enjoys himself.

did he say this before we got Henne? I mean JT pretty much played his entire career without a QB in Miami

He made it look like he was joking but joking or not you don't come out and say something classless like that and expect people not to take it personal. You never say something like that about your team and you certainly shouldn't lie to them and then leave them hanging. Regardless of whether or not he played without a QB you have enough class to earn your money, play the game and avoid throwing your team under the bus. Taylor is a selfish douche in my book.

well as a fan it became increasingly frustrating that we couldnt find a QB during the 2000s. I imagine it was even more frustrating for players like Zach and JT. Personally I think he did enough for us in his career to have a moment or two where he could voice his frustration

No he wouldn't. The agent only gets paid for negotiating the deal. Parcells wanted a RW type deal with no agent.

I dont see how. He is signed with the agent and gets a certain percentage of his NFL contract.

Whatever it is, I don't care one way or the other. He had to screw someone over and he chose the Dolphins imo.

I don't HATE him, I hate him playing for the Jets, and since I am not a players fan, its not hard to show some hate to him.

Tell him to call us when he's done and we'll thinnk about welcoming him to OUR ring of honor.

That's not how it works when you have an agent. I used to work for an NFL agent and if the player went out and negotiated his own deal we would have received nothing. We could have fought about it and we would have had an argument, but it we probably would have lost. I used to have an agent and they got paid for contracts their agency got me, but not on contracts I went and got on my own. I can tell you that I would never have accepted the post-it note deal that Parcells gave me in JT's situation.

  33. Ozzy

    Ozzy Premium Member Luxury Box

Thats fine but my guess if the money on that post it was good, you would accept it. I know I would. His agent may have been with him for a long time but there is also a certain team here that paid him tons and tons of money each time his contract wore down in his prime and I'm pretty sure this team was with him for the same amount of time. So if someone can say well it's a buisiness, the same goes for their agents. All they do is negotiate with the team that actually pays him.

But if I'm a person who values loyalty then I would have more loyalty for my long time business partner than I would for Parcells. In fact, I would have been pissed that Parcells even wanted me to do that.

Yes, I thought it was a classless move by Parcells and it would have been a classless move by JT to cut out the agent.

    Live from the Internet.
Im sorry, "sign with jets or retire" is nonsense.
Was it the only offer on the table AT THE TIME? Probably.
Stating that if he wouldn't of signed with the jets he would of been "forced" to retire is nonsense. Jason can still play, that is clear, very solid backup, vet...whatever. He would of signed with a team sooner or later. If we are talking about loyalty, Jason should take a lesson or two from his brother in law then. He could of signed with the Patriots because hey! Parcells cut him! What loyalty? It wasn't about Zach v Parcells nor is it about Jason v Parcells. Jason Taylor went out of his way to bash new york over and over again throughout the course of his career....and then signs with them. Actions speak louder than words. Jason Taylor is a prime example of that.

You got your 'maybes' and 'facts' backwards. It was a fact that he only had one option at the time he signed. It is a maybe as to whether he would be able to sign with another team at some time in the future.

The ZT situation was different. ZT had the choice of signing with at least NE or Dallas when he was released. He had a choice. We don't know what he would have done if his only options were NE or retire or we can add your wait and hope that some other team comes calling later option.

Sure, him getting other offers was a 'maybe' at the time. But realistically, he was bound to receive offers from other teams.

He just felt that the NYJ would be better than those other situations. Its a big market, he will have opportunity to make plays, and he gets to face his former team 2 times per year.

Those are a great many assumptions. I would guess that JT's agent called every team and tried to get a feel for how likely those teams were to be calling later. IMO that would give him a much better read on the probabilities than what people here are claiming.

As for how JT felt, well those assumptions are based on almost nothing. I would think that a player who wanted to maintain a marketing presence in his home town would prefer to play for a team that didn't play his old team twice and wasn't a rival. I also don't think he would want to go to a team who's fans he regularly bashed. The most he could hope for is a mixed reception. I'm sure an opportunity to make plays was a factor. I think the big market thing is over estimated as we saw in the Lebron pursuit. Players who love the game want to go to places where they feel they can play. IMO the Jets offered that. He may or may not have got an offer later (IMO that had about a 20% chance of happening), but it was unlikely to be a team that gave him a better chance to make plays. At best it would be a team that had an injury and settled for him as a depth player. IMO the overriding factor was the chance to make plays followed by being on a team that actually wanted him.
