Anyone who thinks the Heat will become more popular, read this: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...ill-always-be-the-sole-domain-of-the-dolphins

It's one of the better articles on Bleacher Report, really a good analysis. The only thing is the Dolphins won't be talked about AS much once their season ends, and the NFL draft analysis won't last as long in Miami maybe. The Heat will provide a good distraction for fans down there though.

TBH...what I do hope the rival Trifecta accomplishes is forcing the Tuna/Irish/Sparano Trifecta to become a bit more open and media friendly.

I know why they do not like media access, but with DLC intown, they really should make their stars more media available, drop the Iron Curtain fellas.

If you think a player who never plays off the ball is obviously the best off ball player in the league, then what can I say other than  Wade playing a couple games off the ball with the best players in the world on his team. Yep, that settles it. Except playing a few games off ball with the best players in the world is a lot different than playing a whole season off the ball with a very good player, a pretty good player, and a bunch of bums. Again, at the thought of a player who never plays off the ball is the best off the ball player in the league.

I have been saying that football is king and I still believe that, but I wonder how much of an effect there would be if the players are locked out after this season.

I think it all depends on how the football team does this year if we have a good team then no if we have a decent team then the heat will take the town over

I think I read it somewhere in the list of replies, but the answer to this topic's question is simple....

Basketball simply won't be able to overtake football in Miami. And here's why:

Living in New York my whole life being a Yankee fan (RIP Steinbrenner), we have been accustomed to one thing: winning. We don't get excited to make the playoffs anymore, we don't get excited to make it to the World Series, we DO get excited when we win the World Series.

We EXPECT the yankees to win every year, that's why when the jets were making their run last year, most of the new york area was in a frenzy. It was almost surreal. I see the exact same thing happening with Miami now.

Miami Heat fans now EXPECT the heat to win, not just win 1, but win multiple championships. If they fall short, you may see the Heat fall to the gutter of the NBA for quite some time, if they succeed and do win, well....at least fans got what was expected.

The NFL is different, there are no completely elite teams (just like hockey). And that's why, if the Dolphins were to even win just ONE game in the playoffs, everyone of us on this forum, and every Dolfan in the US, will freak out like we one the whole damn thing. You know it just as well as I do.

Football > Basketball in Miami, and everywhere else.
