Last week I posted a thread on underrated players in Miami now I am posting one on the overrated players. I don't have a link, this is my doing and I am curious on who you think is overrated. Please post your comments as you did before...thanks!! dolfan7171
Fasano -A 'Parcells Guy'...has been serviceable, but certainly not worthy of a starting TE spot on a playoff team...we definitely need an upgrade.
Ronnie Brown's name will appear a lot in this thread, but not from me. The dude is a stud and should get a nice contract extension. He is as complete of a running back as they come and his value to our offense is extreme. As for the topic... I honestly can't think of any players you can call overrated on the Dolphins.
That's fair. Thanks for responding!! I agree with you that Ronnie Brown should get a nice contract. I think he is going to have a great year. Besides I think the one most people will say is Channing Crowder. But that is my opinion.
We used to have a lot of them but now they are hard to find .They have been weeded out .A sign of progress .
Nice thinking Lucky. I posted Bosh before I saw your LeBron. Bosh is by no means a Top 10 NBA player, and LeBron has basically admitted he is no Jordan/Kobe.
Crowder gets way too much love for the amount of production. He is definitely the most overrated. LL stole my thunder up there. We definitely trimmed some dead weight with taylor and porter.
Kory Sheets. Man does that guy get a lot of love despite playing 0 snaps in the NFL. Same can be said for Chris Clemons.
I don't think we have anyone on our roster who's overrated. Simply because the guys we're high on haven't even had a chance to play full time yet (Wake, Henne, Hartline, Incognito, Marshall, Dansby), or we jettisoned them in the offseason (Porter, Wilson). I think we all knew what Taylor would give us, and I think he actually exceeded expectations. Tsoumpas qualifies without even playing a down. Here's a guy the front office was talking up big time and now he's gonna have to fight for a roster spot.
Not so sure about the extension but I bet Ronnie has a Killer season. Our running game is going to be tough to stop. Go ahead and stack us. Let that play action passing game play out.
Sean Smith. I love the guys potential and certain things he's already done but hopefully by the end of this upcoming season he wont be overrated anymore. He still has 0 interceptions as a CB who started the whole season last year. Other than that the only name i can come up with is Channing Crowder.
I agree with Sean Smith unfortunately. After that INT against the saints preseason, we were all starting to hype this guy to all star levels and he then ended the season with 0 ints. Not saying he did bad, cause he didn't. But we all expected a lot more last season. I'm also going to throw Davone Bess under the bus here cause some of us think a little too highly of him. Tough, consistent and reliable. Every once and awhile he makes a crucial 3rd down reception on an awful pass and I thank the lord hes a dolphin. but he's not a stud. He's not a guy we couldn't live without. (the funny thing, all of this can be said for Camarillo as well) And Yeremiah Bell, only cause he made the pro bowl last year and really just didn't belong there. (He did the season prior, however, so i guess it was just charma paying him back)
At this point the only one that comes to mind is Crowder. After all you have to be thought of in a positive manner in some circles to be able to be overrated. By virtue of that you could probably eliminate Fasano and Pat white (who may have been overdrafted but not overrated)
Agree on Merling. (not playing like a 33rd overall pick) I'll add Cam Wake. (can't play backwards, only rush) And Chad Henne. (huge lapses in judgement at inexplicable times plus spotty mid-range accuracy and poor pocket awareness trouble me) Donald Thomas. Grice-Mullen. Reshad Jones and Chris Clemons. Paul Soliai. And I hope I am totally wrong.
C'mon guys, I think we can all agree that Lousaka Polite is the most craptacular player on the squad! I mean, what's his rushing average? Like 1.4 YPC? **(Note: Lou Polite averaged 3.3 YPC in 2009)**
Who the hell gives Crowder love? No one thinks he's that great. Anytime anyone has defended him, its been to say he's not the worst player on the team.
our fellow fans tend to overrate Crowder ... who is merely an average ILB Brown is an enigma ... because he can't stay on the field. His talent is not overrated, but his contributions are due to health. and now that Ginn, Taylor and Porter are gone ... no one else really carries much 'rating' ... outside of Long, but that will change this year and over the next few ... if i were to reach for a 3d overrated play in most PHINS eyes ... it would be Bell ....
For a player to be over rated, he pretty much has to be thought of as special by a large percentage of the fan base while producing at a significantly lower rate. By that definition Crowder can't be on the list since nobody claims he's special and he is criticized more than any other player on the team despite producing at least mid-level stats. To find over rated players you have to look at the players that are loved by the fan base but haven't produced enough to justify that level. Here's my list: Hartline: I love his potential, but he hasn't done anything yet to be anointed the next Hines Ward, which I've seen done on a few occassions. Vontae Davis: He gets over rated b/c fans can't see how often he messes up. They only notice his big plays. Last year the mess ups out-numbered the big plays significantly. I think he'll get there, but he wasn't the best CB we had last year. Tim Dobbins: The guy has been a good back-up and occasional starter, but some here are expecting him to be a starter and upgrade to what we already have starting. Anything is possible, but there are clearly much higher expectations from some fans here than there are within the Dolphin's organization.
How can rookies be on an over rated list? That is plain silly. There is no consensus overrated player on the Dolphins. There are players who are over rated by some fans. That is about it.
None of those players are rookies. They are all players whom some are claiming are special based on their past play when they haven't reached that level. And even though those guys aren't rookies, a rookie could be on the list. If I said Odrick was going to be a HOF player this year I would be over rating him based on what we've seen so far.
players who have only played in one year is silly. The only way those players could be over rated is due to potential. No one is saying they played better than they did last year. That they have potential to be good to great players. Also Hartline has done more than Hines Ward did during Hines Ward rookie year. Vontea Davis showed a lot as a rookie. Plus I do not know where you have read about fans not noticing him giving up big plays. Fans mention that all the time.
