PS you forgot to mention that Sid also said NY is a

    1. Yankee town
    2. Mets
    3. Knicks if they win
    4. Giants
    5. Jets.

New York is a baseball town # 1, I would slide the Giants up before the Knicks.

No matter where you go if there is an NFL team in that city football is King.

Don't knock em bro. 2 Championships already in their short history.

I didn't take this as a trolling post at all.

I didn't either, its a question that was asked on WFAN in NY, Sid Rosenberg is doing the show and a caller asked him that question.

I'm sure that's where the question came from.

If he left this comment out:

I wouldn't either, but that comment was an attempt to get under peoples skin, he could have done this thread without that comment. And for the record I did call it borderline, not straight out trolling.

Today, yes more people are talking about LeBron and the Heat than Pat White's gloves or Patrick Cobbs' injury progress. No duh.

Beyond that, football and the Dolphins will never be overtaken by any sport.

I don't know how you introduce ego into the equation given that all three are taking less money to not only play together, but to leave money free to sign other players who can contribute significantly. And an Olympic gold medal is pretty good evidence that the three can work together.

This is not a Peyton Manning situation, it's a Tom Brady situation. Manning took every single dollar he could possibly earn with whatever Colts cap space was available. Brady took less to leave money free to sign other players.

I'd say in LA their basketball team is more popular than their football team.

NBA Basketball has become a me sport, not a team sport. It's all about ego's.

The Olympics is a poor example, they are playing for country and a metal over a short period of time.

If they can put their ego's aside and win, more power to them, I just don't think they can do it over the long season. Time will tell.

And yet LeBron left Cleveland to join two other players. He willingly gave up the ability to say that he was the sole reason why a team won a championship in favor of, well, winning a championship. I'm sorry, but your premise does not hold water in this specific instance. If we were talking about Joe Johnson, who stayed on a bad team in Atlanta just for the money, you'd be right. But we're not, so you aren't.

They played to win. Just like they're about to now.

Plenty of room for both in Miami...

LMAO at the people who are saying the Heat are overrated or it won't work.

The NBA isn't worth watching until the playoffs anyway. Now Miami has great entertainment throughout the year...

These guys have been talking and wishing for this for a long time. Their best of friends who want to play together and want to win multiple championships. I have little doubt that they will make this work. Not to mention they all are willing to actually take less money to make this a success. We almost never hear of this in today s sports. :knucks:

All this means is Miami has a decent shot at two championships in the same year, several years in a row. I EXPECT an NBA Championship with the Heat now, I am hopeful about the Fins playing in the SB, maybe not this season, but the following year is very likely at the rate we're building this team.

Well, Miami has always been a football town, even before the Fins. Even the Canes were on a furlough from football for a while prior to '67. Then when Shues came on board and built the team into a dynasty and maintained that high level of play for a long time we stayed a football town. Then the Heat, Marlins and Panthers came along, in conjunction with Shues retiring and some lean years under Wanny, Saban and Cam. The Heat have been pretty good and the Marlins have won a couple of WS, but I still think we've remained a football town....Now, with what the Heat have done in the last few weeks....it could change some unless all the pieces fit for the Fins team and they put together another solid year, like in 2008....

We will just have to wait and see, but it certainly looks like Riles and co. have bought themselves a good shot at a championship so the Tuna needs to kick things up a notch...

    over there

It remains to be seen tbh,but I would hope not.

Would you like to see that happen? Is that what I'm reading?
How do you feel that the Giants and Yankees have always been more popular than the Jets.
How does it feel that the Rangers and Mets have taken over in popularity in the last few decades over the Jets?
How will it feel when the Nets move to Brooklyn and garner more attention the Jets?
How would it have felt if Lebron did wind up going to the Knicks?
Would you still be asking silly question? :wink2:

I'm sure all South Florida sports fans are not going to be used to it,or accept it if it happens. I mean, the Dolphins will always be the first professional sports franchise in Florida.
But since we have you on the line and the Jets are used to playing second fiddle to just about every Major sports team in the Tri-State area.
What should us Dolphins fans do if this were to happen?

    Peace

Miami will always be a football town over basketball.
The Heat already won a recent championship and it did nothing to change the dynamic. S. Florida when it comes down to it is owned by the Dolphins.

The naysayers are basically just saying that it will be a failure. It seems to be a combination of hope, very little knowledge and general, inapplicable assumptions rather than any kind of reasoned analysis.

With this trio and all the guys that are waving their arms in the air to be chosen to join them..... we'll finally get an answer to the age old question: What if the Harlem Globetrotters were real?

They will play to nothing but sold out arenas, win no less than 2 Championships in the next 5 years, some ppl will criticize them for the way it happened but the rest of the league will take note and we'll likely see more of this type of thing........ where star players are the ones behind closed doors shaping the future.

The Miami Dolphins have been and will likely always be king of South Florida....... but unless the Fins start making some serious noise and contending for the next several years, there's gonna be an eclipse and the Dolphins are going to be in the shadow, temporarily.....and for the first time ever.

Cue this trio to be given a nickname and watch the circus begin........ this is going to be a hard act to follow.

This exactly. The Dolphins have ruled South Florida for a long time, even in the face of the greatest college sports dynasty of all time in the Miami Hurricanes football program. (Eat it, Duke basketball.) But the Fins need to make noise now. People are tired of waiting, and if they can flip the dial to what by all indications could be the greatest dynasty in NBA history... they're going to do it.

As the Dolphins PR people have said about the Heat's resurgence, a rising tide lifts all boats. But a rising tide sort of sucks if you forget how to swim.

A mixture of art imitating life and foreshadowing:

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-5deds-ByU"]YouTube- ESPN - LeBron James' Football Commercial[/ame]

Lebron blocking the Dolphin's field goal is a metaphor for him stealing the spotlight from the Dolphins. However, I don't think it matters to Dolphin faithful as I'll still take an NFL game over a regular season NBA game.

But yeah, Heat tickets are going to be the hottest in all of sports. There probably hasn't been this much buzz about regular season NBA tickets since Jordan was in his prime.

Only the mambiest of pambiest Dolphin fans would think this is bad for the Dolphins. It is amazing for the city of Miami and the success will trickle down into many aspects of life in Miami. Even the Hurricanes might get a few more high end recruits because of the shift in perception. I'm a Suns fan from my time in Tucson, AZ (from the D'antoni era) and a default Lakers fan (for the Finals)...Not anymore. No team regardless of the sport will get more attention than the Heat.

Having two lets call them A players will be tough.

With the Bulls option A was Jordan B was Pippen C was Rodman or whomever was hot that night, but it was Jordan first.

With the Heat you have two A's and a C with Bosh.

James has no mid-range game, does he let the others get the glory? I'm not so sure.

Can it work, yes, but a lot of ego's need to be left at the door, its a long season, I'm not sure they can do it.

And I was joking with the Blind faith remark because rafael made his sound like he know's all. It goes both ways, nobody know's how its going to work until it plays out.

I'm just saying don't hand them the title yet.

James distributes the ball all the time. He played the 3 like the 1.

Which is why he's playing point guard in Miami.

We need to understand that these three have been planning on doing what ever they could to play together for a long time. These three are best of friends who came out in the same draft and shored up out olympic team.

They all worked their last contracts to ensure that they would all be free agents at the same time. They all are willing to take less money to make this work. This is something they have talked and dreamed about for a very long time. Those two "A" players will be just fine.

LeBron and Wade need the ball in their hands. Neither can play off the ball. Neither can shoot. Nobody knows how it's going to work out. And the Heat have 0 talent outside of the big 3, and let's not even talk about what a disaster Bosh/Haslem would be. No post defense/length = no ring plain and simple. For the heats sake, they better hope they resign Joel Anthony, which I think they will.

To answer the question. The Heat will never overtake the Dolphins, because the NBA will never come close to the NFL in popularity. The Heat can win championships the next 10 seasons, the Heat still won't have as many real fans as the Dolphins. Bandwagon fans yes, real fans no.

I really hate how much of a baseball town NYC is.

I'm so sick of the Yankees at this point, and I used to be a die hard. I've watched about 90 minutes of baseball all this season.

It'll be a Yankees town first and foremost forever though; football just a carry-me-through 'til Spring Training.

No. The Dolphins will always be the most popular team. They also have a big national fan base that has been strong since the 70s dynasty and the Marino years in the 80s and 90s. I've seen Dolphins fans not just in NYC, but in smaller random places. The Heat don't have that. [Yet--I'm sure the bandwagon jumpers will start to get on the Heat bandwagon.]

The Dolphins can suck and still get attention and sell tickets.

Well I'm a New Yorker who also can't wait until Football season and could mostly care less about Baseball. Except I just hate the Jets... sorry.

I think football is just as popular though, when the teams are doing well. Maybe a big difference is with the NFL there's more people who cheer for teams from other places I find.

Not really. Lebron has been criticized for years for being too unselfish and passing too much. You put him at PG and you let him be who he was. Wade is a guy who was so unselfish that he came off the bench on the olympic team even though arguably he played the best of any player on that team. And Bosh is a natural complement to either guy. That's why every team that pursued these guys wanted Bosh and either Wade or Lebron. These are guys who between all-star games and the olympics have already had about 100 practices together and about 30 games. So the idea that it won't work is based on faith. We've already seen it work with these guys together.
