What are your thoughts, Dolphins fans?

The Heat are easily the most popular team now on South Beach.

So much for your posts in the Heat offseason thread.

It's a close call. South Florida loves them some Dolphins, but the Heat are now a juggernaut. Let's wait and see what happens after both teams start their seasons.

Not really. They had to suspend season ticket sales.

I don't think so. If they win a championship or two, I think they'd make a run at it but I think in the end, it's still all about football.

The correct phrase is "sold out."

Interesting fact: Jay-Z, he of the future Brooklyn Nets, paid $900k for two courtside Heat season tickets.

Good for him. I don't care. He owns like 1% of the team; he can do what he wants.

The Marlins will still draw huge TV ratings every night but will be held back by Bozo the Art Clown. Nice try at trolling, though.

Not for me, Dolphins are my passion bro, and beating up on the Jets 2x a year is A) a given, and B) better than than championship the Heat win.....

nevermind Miami winning the SB, thats a whole other level....

The Marlins that consistently beat the Mets, or the Marlins that won their second World Series by beating the Yanks?

    Just trying to clarify :pointlol:

That's it?? Pretty weak man. I also think you starting this thread is borderline trolling.

There are very few cities where the basketball team is more popular than the football team, I can think of maybe two and one of them - Detroit - is because the team has been god awful for so long.

Sorry if you thought I was trolling by starting this thread. I wasn't intending to at all.

I just wanted to see your thoughts on the current Miami sports scene. It has changed a LOT in the past year.

New York fans are in for a long season of sports. Jets aren't gonna live up to the hype, Knicks won't be able to keep up, Giants will underachieve, Mets are mediocre at best. Looks like the Yanks are the only bright spot.

    Delusion is easy.

Good, that just strengthens my argument because the only city I can think of where an NBA team is more popular than the NFL is Boston and I am not sure about that either.

The other possibility is in Phoenix but that might not be the case anymore since the rise of late of the Cardinals.

To think the Heat could ever overtake the Dolphins is just plain silly, I just don't see it happening.

No way. Living in Boston, the locals are interested in the celtics only when the patsies aren't playing. Same thing will happen on miami

IMO the Dolphins will always be the top team just b/c football is king. The Marlins have been more successful than the Dolphins over the last decade and they are still a blip compared to the Dolphins. At best, the Heat becomes equally relevant during their season as long as they are winning. Otherwise they will always be second. That doesn't mean irrelevant or anything. It just means second.

The Dolphins will always own Miami. The Heat have stepped up and basketball will be more interesting now there but it's still a football town by a long shot.

That is a ridiculous and uninformed comment. The roster as it stands now:

    PG: James/ Chalmers
    SG: Wade
    SF: Miller/ Butler
    PF: Bosh/ Varnado
    C: Anthony/ Pittman

They should be able to retain Haslem and Wright under the Bird rights. And players like Raja Bell, Shaq, Varejo, Brad Miller and a host of others are reportedly willing to play for the minimum just to be on the team.

No, it hasn't though. Football and the Dolphins are still king, and always will be. Basketball will now be more popular there, but it won't come close to football.

yeah, that hasn't been true since Larry Bird played in the garden. honestly, I think teh Boston fans love seeing the Celtics win, but they aren't attached to the team since Ray Allen and Garnett spent their whole careers elsewhere.

Listen to Sid on WFAN were we?

No, I don't think so, football is one day a week, basketball is a few days a week. Sundays will still be football.

As they say, win and they shall come.

Personally, I think the Heat will be a bust, I don't see it working.
