Definitely a start. And a valuable one as well. No doubt about that. Hopefully we could get more with us to discuss it.

I think a very underrated Dolphin is Charlie Anderson. He made some big plays last season spelling Joey Porter. I expect a solid season from him with Porter gone. Especially if some of the rookies fail to impress enough to start.

If Brandon Marshall is right and Davone Bess becomes the true #2 option to Brandon Marshall's #1 option, then you could see a passing game that operates a lot like the one Kurt Warner ran in Arizona with Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin. Fitzgerald and Marshall are similar players, and Bess is a little Boldin-ish. In fact, Hartline's not all that different from Breaston and Camarillo might even compare to Jerheme Urban.

Good post guys. I like the one on Camarillo. I noticed that people think he is expendable now that we have Marshall. Everyone remember the catch he made to give us the only win of the season but after that he seems to be forgotten even though he has made some key plays for us over the years.

I can't disagree with any of the three listed. I might replace Langford with Crowder though just b/c Crowder seems to have replaced Ginn as the team whipping boy. But that may just be among Dolphin fans. League-wide I think Crowder is seen as an average to good starter. It's really only among Dolphin fans where I here him called a liability.

Polite will probably always be on that list just b/c he's a fullback. I think when you have a good fullback he should probably always be on any under rated list.

Bess is one of my favs and IMO can be better than Welker. I don't think he's quite as quick as Welker but he is more complete and more capable of playing both the Z and the slot.

That is an interesting comparision. That would be nice if the passing offense would be as explosive as that offense.

Underrated by whom? NFL fans or Dolphins fans? I wouldn't say Dolphins fans underrate Polite... everyone whose a Miami fan knows he's a top tier fullback.

NFL fans though? Yeah it's a possibility...

I like that one but I would argue that Henne has the stronger arm. Although that really don't matter.

As far as this discussion is concerned I would say Dolphins fans. I think most NFL fans would not think of these guys as overrated. At least that I know of.

As far as Polite is concerned, I know of some Dolphins fans believe fullbacks aren't needed anymore. They believe he is good to have but not needed....you know, too old school.

In my opinion the three most underrated Dolphins right now(in order) are:

    Lousaka Polite
    Yeremiah Bell
    Randy Starks

Honorable mention goes to Vernon Carey.

All four of those players would start/play a huge role on any team in the NFL and are very seldom talked about.

I think maybe our three primary WRs from last year are underrated not only by the national NFL fanbase, but by an awful lot of Dolphin fans as well.
Brian Hartline, as a rookie had a 16.3 ypc avg and had a 5.7 yac avg. Very few WRs did as well. We talk about it taking three years for a WR to develop. Hartline seems to be well on his way.
Devonne Bess was a machine at converting on 3rd down
Greg Camarillo simply caught every single ball thrown at him.
Yet to most NFL fans all we have at WR is Brandon Marshall.

This, and it isn't even close.

Vernon Carey is one of the best RTs in the league, and the only attention he's gotten in years from Dolphins fans is scorn when he gave up some pressures late last season while playing hurt.

Hard to argue with any of the players listed in the original post. I'd say you could also make a strong argument for Will Allen, who IMO is easily one of the most underated players in the NFL. Camarillo and Starks also should get notice, though Starks is starting to get plenty of recognition.

Bess fumbled to allow Nawlins back into the game before half time. He muffed a punt vs NYJ that allowed them back into the game, then fumbled again (on the GW drive) but was bailed out by an early whistle. He fumbled against Jax when we were driving to take a two score lead and complete control of the game. He jumps into the air unecessarily when the ball arrives, especially on longer throws. Other than that he's a good player, but not an underrated one IMO.

Totally agree on Langford and Polite .

This fan base does not, in any way, underrate Bess...if anything they overrate him. He's a good receiver, but his physical limitations keep him from being elite. Any D can stop him without having to put their best DB on him. In fact, some LBers can cover him. I just don't think he's as much as most here. He is a mediocre return guy and tends to go down with the first hit on him...he catches a lot of balls, but it just doesn't seem to amount to much for us. JMO, but I'm not all caught up in the Davon Bess love affair....same as I wasn't with Sexy Rexy Hadnot...

At any rate, the guy I'd put in there is Will Allen. Perhaps with Davis and Smith's development he'll play less of a role, but he's been pretty consistent at CB for us since he's been here and now he's being written off because of the youngsters and the injury. We'll see, but if he's healthy, he's still better than the young guys at this point. However, having him back and healthy makes our CB spot very deep and very talented. The #3 CB is just as important as the other two guys.

I like the Langford selection...he has solidified his side of the DL and gets little attention, except by offensive coordinators. That's what you want of a D lineman.

The third guy is Dan Carpenter. He rarely gets mentioned except when he misses...but he doesn't miss much. He came in as a rookie and just performed. He's put several W's on the board, especially in his rookie year. But again, that's what you want from a kicker...someone who has "break glass in case of FG" written on his forehead....

Brian Hartline... our big yardage receiver last year besides one bomb that worked to Ginn. Impressed as a rookie while the receiver drafted ahead of him rode the bench all year. Led the team in YPC and receiving TDs as a rookie, he is a playmaker who helps put points on the scoreboard. Tough smart kid who also made key tackles on special teams, did whatever asked of him. Do not judge this book by its cover. Nothing but upside.

Vontae Davis... four interceptions as a rookie who didn't start until after Will Allen's injury, only one Dolphin has more than 4 picks in a season in the last six years. Without his pick in the endzone of Tom Brady we probably don't win the NE game. Aggressive corner who can tackle and is good in helping against the run. Like Hartline he played awfully well AS A ROOKIE showing he has game-changing ability and will only continue to get better, I think he will be among the top corners in the league in a short time.

Charlie Anderson... who was behind Joey Porter for #2 on the team in forced fumbles over the last two years? Charlie Anderson. Has an opportunity this year with Porter and Taylor out of the way to get more playing time and make an impact, he ain't just another scrub.

I'd agree that Anderson has 'waited' his turn, but after 7 yrs, how else can you describe him ?? He's nothing more than a journeyman OLB who is being pressed into service here because we simply don't have anyone else.

I can see a comparison between Anquan and Marshall, Marshall being a younger version of Anquan in they way they are both big and very physical. Now for the comparison of Bess to Boldin I can't see at all.

    Underrated:
    Polite
    Camarillo
    Langford

I think my three most under rated would be:

    1. Starks, the guy gets very little credit for the stability he brings to our DL.
    2. D Bess, for all the reasons already mentioned.
    3. Carpenter, the guy just makes just about all the kicks he gets a shot at. For the longest time I knew Dolphins kickers would choke when the game was on the line. I don't get that feeling with Carpenter. Just needs to do a little better job on kickoffs.

    honorable mention:
    1. L. Polite, the guy is among the best block FB's in the NFL and every time you need a yard... he gets it.
