Exactly, he trusted his instincts, when he mentioned Saban paused before answering that was all he needed to hear, Saban tried to line up everything to the largest percentage possible, CR points out that Dr Andrews said Brees would comeback at 100%, the Dolphins Medical Team put it a 25%, Saban decided to avoid the risk, now if the Dolphins medical team had given a higher probability, would Saban have pulled the trigger?

For me, I'd doubt it, Saban isn't wired that way, he wanted 100% from both opinions and when he didn't have it, he lost enthusiasm for signing Drew Brees.

The Dolphins made the mistake of caring about the medical opinions of people who had absolutely nothing to do with Brees' shoulder or the surgery, over the opinion of the guy who actually worked on the shoulder.

And they're paying for that mistake to this very day.

I realize everyone wants to make nice-nice and pretend like we were all wrong for the right reasons. I sat there four years ago and proclaimed that you throw with your shoulder a heck of a lot more than you throw with your knee, so the decision should be simple. I think a lot of people shared that same opinion. This whole blaming it on the doctors stuff is a way for us all to get out of saying we were wr-wr-wr-wr-wr-incorrect.

Try rereading the post. I'm talking about Saban taking the Bama job.

I was furious when we didn't draft Drew Brees, and furious again when we didn't sign him. That being said, it's 2010. Time to stop dwelling in the past. Chad Henne is our QB, and Drew Brees never will be. Nick Saban is an asshat and always will be.

    Let's move on.

This whole issue is like a sore you keep picking at and it wont go away. Leave it alone and it goes away. Saban, and Brees are not Dolphins and we have to move on and let it go, just bad memories.
A good team who can win is the perfect cure and can make one forget even the bad times.

That makes more sense. I didn't realize Saban's leaving was even being discussed here. Regardless, I don't think Saban's leaving was motivated by money either. He was in over his head and he knew it. In college you can fix your team in one or two great recruiting seasons. In the NFL it's a whole different ballgame.

Wayne Huizenga confirmed it. he also confirmed it wasn't just our medical team, but that they consulted 3 or 4 independent medical teams across the nation (maybe even in Canada, isn't that overseas or something) and they all said the same thing.

I'd find you a link, but I would have to go back to finheaven. And on top of that, their forums are down right now :hi5:

I think it's a little bit of both here. Miami's doctors would not sign off on Brees' shoulder. Sensing that, Brees ran to New Orleans. So in saying he "chose" NO is a bit disingenuous, if not technically accurate. He chose New Orleans because he knew Miami was not going to choose him ...

But they still got a Super Bowl and we don't know when we will get one. Until we win one with what Parcells has started the Saints are the lucky ones. Remember Parcells has been at NE, NY Jests and Cowgirls, without winning a SB. Yes we have progressed, but its not a guarantee at all. His track record shows that.

True but just having Brees on our team wouldn't have guaranteed a superbowl. In other words we didnt win or lose...he made the right decision for himself based on known results, but there is no way to know if it was right for us.

As a hypothetical, he could have been sacked and injured thanks to our formerly putrid line, then the Saints are still looking pretty.

The Saints will be bringing the Lombardi trophy to Mobile next week and I plan to kidnap Brees and bring him to Miami.

Side note, Being in Mobile Metro Jail, that's the closest JaMarcus will ever come to the Lombardi. What a douche. Seriously, from playing against him in high school and seeing him all the time around town, I can testify that guy is a douche.

I look back on not drafting Brees and then passing him over as a free agent as 2 of the biggest mistakes we've ever made. Saban realized how bad he screwed up and ran back to college. I love our team now so I'm happy about where we are going, it takes away from the bitterness a bit but passing over on Brees is one of the main reasons I can't stand Saban. Wanny and Saban both passed on him and are college coaches now......you do the math.

Saban's a great college coach, no doubt about that, I don't think anyone is shocked he turned Alabama into a power house. Wanny has done a great job recruiting and is a solid college coach too. However, both crapped out as Pro head coaches because they made piss poor personnel decisions, particularly at the Qb position. Lots of great college coaches can't translate to the pros.

I don't like Saban for a lot of reasons, but I can't blame this on him.

Not properly diagnosing Brees' shoulder, compared to Culpepper's knee, was a failure by our medical staff.

The medical staff got both injuries flat out wrong.

Oh yeah. He'll be in the NFL 3 years, just long enough to give it a go and see he can't cut it. But honestly, he doesn't care. He was just trying to get out of USC before the **** hit the fan and took the first job he could find.

We've had two coaches that lost their NFL coaching coaching careers by passing on the same guy...... that's gotta be a first

You guys blaming the medical team have to think about it this way. In order to predict Brees would heal better they would have had to ignore the evidence and just guess. Brees had a torn shoulder, pins all the way around, yada yada yada. Culpepper had the knee injury. You already know which injury is more serious. So you want the medical staff to chuck all their training, all their experience, all their logic, and just "guess."

That's what it would have taken. Dr.James Andrews is of course the best there is, but he's still an interested party, so there was a conflict of interest in anything he said.
