not true although they used hilliard in that role last season
lex should have been spelling ricky a little more often when ronnie went down. he can push the footbal inside.
cobbs has many talents but running between the tackles isn't one of them

Depends on his health..... if healthy, none of these new guys will displace him. He's just too versatile.... and is viewed as such by Sparano.

There is no way Cobbs is ready at the start of this season imho. I'm betting this guy gets left by the wayside. One should always guard against this FO/CS saying great things about a player that is injured.

Patrick Cobbs gives more bang for the buck than just about anyone on our entire roster, period. 3rd down back, 3rd string RB, KO team, KO return team, Punt team, Punt return team, hands team. He does all of them well, and for only for a few hundred thousand. Arguing against him being on the roster for any reason other than health is just uncivilized.

Cobbs is a good 3rd down back because he runs hard and catches competently, but the man is absolutely terrible as a returner. He and Bess both have no business out there as returners.

Chris Williams, why did you have to suck? Why?

Padre, didn't you already start a thread on this subject a few weeks ago? Don't understand why you dislike Cobbs, but like I said before, you're wrong on this subject. A healthy Cobbs is worth his weight in gold for many different reasons I'm not going to spell out again since this is a duplicate thread.

That is the most awesome toaster I have ever seen.

Also, Hilliard is not on par with Cobbs right now IMO.

Losing Cobbs hurt like a *****.

I think hilliard can turn into cobbs, but cobbs is there (minus his injury). He has a good attitude about it.

Personally I want Cobbs on our team, he contributes, a lunch pail kind of player who is not flashy but goes out and gets it done. Agree I really want someone else returning kickoffs and punts, but Cobbs is too versatile in so many other ways of value to this team, he stays.

Cobbs...jack of all trades (on an NFL offense), but master of none. He's made himself more difficult to replace because he does do several different jobs adequately. However, he's not best KO returner, not the best RB, not the best 3rd back, etc in the league, he's just pretty good at those jobs he does. I think many of us think of him like we did Rex Hadnot....who has proven that while he was better than most of the OL we had at the time he was here, he was just mediocre as an NFL player...I see Cobbs in the same light...Someone above brought up Kevin Faulk...if we had Kevin Faulk, Cobbs would not be here. Faulk is far superior in that 'jack of all trades-offense' role than Cobbs ever was or will be.

Don't get me wrong, we did miss him and some of the things he does, because the guys we used to to those things weren't as good at them as he was, but he's just not all that...

I would have to REALLY question someones football IQ if they really think Cobbs should not be on this team.

Just like i did a year and half ago with that person who says he's an old NFL scout saying Miami was looking to replace Y.Bell...................IMHO this, just like that.... is crazy talk.

    100%!

    A stat look at PC:

Rushing - in the 38 games he's been active these are his stats:
    Att: 33 for 171 yards 3 long runs of 19, 44, and 12 = 75 yards (1 each of the last 3 years)
Average = 5.2 ypc yet when you take away the 3 long runs he averages only 3.2 ypc

Recieving: in 38 games he has caught 24 passes for 318 yards 19 of which were caught in 2008, his best recieving year with 2 TDs

Kick returns - 29 kr for 594 yards averaging 20.5 ypr in 38 games with only 1 run going over 40 yards

All of the above comes from the NFL site.

Cobbs, while a likable guy is surely replaceable, more than likely with someone now hidden on our roster.

IMHO only.........Cobbs is what he is...if you really dive into the stats you cannot just factor out big plays, but when you look at the big picture over his career it bears out what many including myself and apparently you think...Cobbs is reliable and serviceable and nothing special.

Without the ball he offers little in the picking up Lb's, and again stats as the "facts" to support what you see......he averages 2.3 YPC and 4.8 per reception in the 4th Qtr....does most of his "damage" early in the game on first down when the team is behind, plays inside the hash primarily and does not stretch the field, and does not produce an inordinate amount of first downs........

He does not really create but takes advantage of situations and the team puts him in that position. He is reliable, gets the most out of what he is and does not fumble and has below average speed.............he is what he is, a guy that deserved a roster spot when you do not have a guy with better long term potential, as a back and a guy that can save you 2-3 spots for developmental guys because he is reliable and does a lot of things.....

I get why Sparano would like the guy, he is a pro and reliable...but IMHO when you one old and one injury prone RB then the third guy better have some every down ability, and they have Hilliard who has some every down back type qualities. They also have more than one "raw" WR with return skills, and it will be tougher and tougher as the team gets better overall to carry guys like Pat Cobbs...great guy, but his time may have passed.................IMO he gets replaced by a guy like Sheets as a rb or Pruitt, Grice-Mullen, Johnson, or a guy that is not on our roster currently that has a higher ceiling .....just my .02...

Cobbs plays with a lot of heart and there is a reason why Sparano talks about him the way he does. He is a guy you need to have on ST, and has proven himself as a 3rd down back and utility guy. Not to mention he can block pretty well. He is a very underrated player. Looking forward to seeing him back on the field this year. Hopefully he recovers quickly.

Haha i never do. Cobbs certainly will have to prove himself with all the talent at RB we have and with coming off a serious injury. However, that being said, he will hav his chances seeing as Sparano likes him and i think he'll do well with them and i expect him to score 1-3 TDs for us and gain a total of at least 250 yrds through the air and ground. I think these would be pretty good numbers for a 3rd string RB.

Everybody who saw Cobbs in action saw him in an Ultra conservative offense that even Alex Jones would call radical. Cobbs, when able to spread his wings, is a solid player and I think with the addition of Marshall, he is going to have a hell of a lot more room to move around. Corners and Safeties will be deeper which gives his screens and such more room so he can put on the speed. This guy caught a 5 yard dump off from Pennington and turned it into a 70 yard TD in all of 10 seconds.

You guys slay me. Did I say I hate this guy? NO! I did say he is replaceable. I have seen arguements here talking of Ronnie Brown being cut/traded because of injury with sound debate by both sides yet talk of a utility guy and people get their pantys in a wad; you'd think I said Ted Ginn was a good kick returner!:lol::lol:

As m2c said he is what he is and I think can easly be replaced by someone on our squad this year, why? because he is injured. It took Camarillo almost half the year to look really back in form last year and they brought him back slowly, Cobbs doesn't have that time as our 3rd back as he must be ready to go from the jump. He will not be on our 53 man roster imho for that reason alone!

Call me crazy and hate me if you want to but thats my call on Cobbs.:tongue2:
