Linkage. They usually offer two versions: one that covers the screen, and one that covers the whole unit. Will be curious to see if they offer something that prevents contact between the two antennae. If not, there's money to be made in a super-thin plastic shell case. If it doesn't ruin the feel of the phone, then I'll pick one up.
I missed that entirely. Looks pretty good. I like the flexibility. I might have to get this instead. Edit: Caved. 10 bucks, free shipping? Sold.
I got an email from AT&T saying they are available for order again. Any new impressions from those who have had them a while now?
Still anxiously waiting for mine... Uhg. My woman is waiting for it too... She's planning on hijacking my 3Gs once 4 shows up and get away from that god awful Blackberry.
While I think it will never happen, I want it too... I figure that when they do get an iPhone on Verizon, the hordes and masses of iPhone users will run over to Verizon my the millions thus freeing up AT&T's network leaving me and 12 other AT&T users with the fastest most reliable underused network on earth.
For the reason you listed is why I want an Verizon iPhone or many carrier iPhone's in the US. Here's my wallpaper on my i4.
Don't count on it. Think about it for a minute: over 1.7 million iPhone 4s have been sold to date. Who benefits from putting word out that the iPhone will be available from Verizon next year? Apple? In the short term, no. Their objective is to sell iPhones now, not next year. AT&T? Of course not. Why would they want people to know that a competitor will have their golden goose next year? Which leaves Verizon. IMO, Verizon is putting out word, whether true or not, that they'll get the iPhone next year so as to keep current customers from abandoning ship to AT&T. The iPhone 4's pull is THAT powerful. Only Verizon benefits from this report because it stems the tide of customer defections and maybe takes some momentum away from the iPhone 4's sales figures, thus providing a bargaining chip in negotiations with Apple. The irony here is that Apple initially approached Verizon to carry the iPhone exclusively and they balked at requests like Visual Voicemail, no co-branding, not forcing custom apps and services on iPhone users... basically, they threw a fit when Apple asked them if they would refrain from jerking potential iPhone customers around. If the iPhone lands on Verizon one day, great, fine. But don't sit back and wait for it to happen. It's been rumored since 2008 and hasn't happened yet.
http://www.usatoday.com/tech/products/2010-06-30-iphone30_ST_N.htm looks like a done deal to me...*edit* well maybe not but this seems almost legit.
Wow.... I hope it's true. A little competition is good. Might get AT&T to smarten up their RIDICULOUS new data plan
Again: Verizon is putting this out now because they want to keep customers from defecting to AT&T now. Imagine you're a Verizon customer with, say, one of those Blackberries they basically gave away a while back, and you see the iPhone 4 and really want one. Since it's been a while, your Verizon contract is about up, and you're planning to take the plunge. Then Bloomberg "learns" that Verizon will have the iPhone 4 next January. Are you really going to jump ship now and go through the hassle? No, you'd rather keep your current phone and just wait it out. And then when January rolls around and no Verizon iPhone materializes, you kick yourself for falling for the rumor... but then you get to thinking that it's only a few more months until the next iPhone gets announced, so you might as well wait for that. In the process, Verizon has wrung an extra year of money out of your wallet. Like I've been saying, don't actually plan on Verizon having the iPhone until Apple announces it. We don't even know when AT&T's exclusivity ends: it could be January 1, 2011, or it could be January 1, 2012. No one knows. Bloomberg doesn't. USA Today doesn't. Verizon doesn't. Only AT&T and Apple do.
Anyway, Core77 has landed an interview with Jonathan Ive, Apple's lead industrial designer, about the process that led to the iPhone 4's design and some of his principles. Even if you don't care at all about physical design, material selection, or anything else related to the topic, it's still a pretty interesting read.
I also heard AT&T has increased the money for people who break their contract, which makes sense if verizon does get the iphone
Yeah, AT&T raised its ETF, which at the time seemed like a parallel to the Canadian carrier Rogers' same action. Rogers raised their ETF, and a couple of months later they lost exclusivity and another Canadian carrier began offering the iPhone alongside Rogers. I thought the same thing might happen, and that Verizon as a carrier would have been announced at WWDC along with the iPhone 4. Didn't happen.
Its really not ridiculous. They were having issues with customers dropping calls because of all the data being transmitted. That's a crap ton of data moving that would cause that. 2GB per month is really still alot of data to transmit.
Would someone clue me in as to why the HTC Evo is being compared to the iPhone 4? Three hours of battery life means the HTC Evo is a victim of SIDS.
the video also left out that the EVO will be drained dead after 6.5 minutes of use... http://twitter.com/#search?q=Evo battery dead
SOOOOOOOOO bottom line is it worth upgrading to now and paying $400? or waiting until april and paying $200? I am looking to possibly getting the phone or an iPad in the next month or so, provided I can sell my boat motor. Just not sure if I want to come off the money for a new phone right now. I just switched a few months ago from Verizon to AT&T because of the iPhone.
That depends. Do you mind spending the extra $200? If not, take the plunge now. Otherwise, just wait until the iPhone 5 comes out next year. I wouldn't buy an iPad as things stand. I'd wait for the second model. It should have some of the iPhone 4's features, like a forward-facing camera and 512MB of RAM.
I have an EVO and I can assure you I get more than 3 hours of battery life, you just can't leave all networking going in the background on that Android does. Turn off automatic updates and things like google talk and I am good to go. Will it ever get as good battery life as Iphone 4, I don't think so, but that's really one of the few advantages Iphone 4 has. Let me just say surfing the net of the EVO is a thing of beauty.
Turning features off for the sake of battery life defeats the purpose of having a smartphone in the first place.
Turning off things you aren't using is smart, Sprint is dumb for shipping EVO's with all options turned on, one of the things killing battery life was being signed into my google talk all the time when I entered my gmail, even though I don't use it. I have a 1750ma battery plus the 1500ma battery it comes with so I don't worry and in fact I have only switched it out once, when I watched World Cup games on ESPN Mobile TV. Just because a Civic gets better gas mileage than an Accord, it doesn't mean it's a better car.
No you don't, of it was all the polling things turned on in relation to social network. Do I need my phone to keep all facebook updates for everyone in my phone every 15 minutes, I think not every couple of hours or once a day is fine for 95% of contacts.
Always-on Google services is one of Android's major selling points. Turning them off defeats one of the primary purposes of getting an Android phone: better integration with Google.
Yo Desides, I got that iPhone4 case I ordered. Looks legit. I have no iPhone4 to put in it, but I will rock the case like a champ.
Mine is on the way too. Should be here today, according to the tracking info. I'll let the thread know if it's worth a damn on the phone itself.
Got the case. Put the case on. It's excellent. Nice find, mor. Adds just a bit of thickness to the side edges, leaves the bottom and top uncovered, and feels very strong and solid along the back while leaving the front open. It has a very small lip on the front edge which I don't think will provide more than token screen protection on a fall onto a perfectly flat surface. Actually, it seems like the lip is there to help you remove the case. You don't slide the phone in from the top or bottom, you snap it in from the front, leading with one side and then following with the other. Once it's on, you need to push a lip to the side and pull the phone up by holding it with fingers on the top and bottom. Feels pretty secure: I don't think the phone will ever come out of the grip. Speaking of grips, with the case on, I can't replicate the Death Grip issue anymore. Not that it's really a problem, because you can still make and receive calls even in a Death Grip. Thanks for telling me about this, mor. It's a great case.
Anyway, beyond my lame case review, some iPhone 4 stuff today. First, Apple has put out a press release saying they've been calculating signal strength incorrectly and will issue an iOS 4 update in the next few weeks to correct the issue. Also, Anandtech has reviewed the iPhone 4, and they came to the same basic conclusion: the reception problem is primarily a software issue in the way signal strength is reported graphically in bars, and the external antenna actually improves reception quite a bit.
Radioshack is offering 200 trade in on 3GS. http://www.mainstreet.com/article/smart-spending/technology/radio-shack-offers-iphone-trade-deal so basically like a free upgrade if ur not eligible for 199 from AT&T. I'm happy with my 3GS right, love the new stuff on the 4 but with AT&T rolling out 4g next summer, I'll wait till next yr and get the iPhone 4g.
AT&T will begin its LTE rollout. That doesn't mean Apple will be alongside them with an LTE-capable iPhone. I wouldn't expect LTE on the iPhone until around 2012 or even 2013, depending on the extent of nationwide LTE rollout and whether or not Apple is offering the iPhone on a second carrier.
Yeah, they will need to find a way to not let 4G eat up the battery (Hi Evo) before rolling out... They will not repeat the mistake the 3Gs made with short battery life. Apple - One of the few companies that learns from it's mistakes.
