What I was trying to get at is Riley likes BIG Power Forwards. He likes guys who can slid into the C position. He likes guys who can defend, outmuscle the other teams big men for rebounds. The PF in Riley's system doesn't have to be offensively efficient, but he must be able to work in the paint. The main thesis of Riley's offense's is "feed the big men" and let the shooters do their thing when the paint is loaded with defenders. Its an inside-out approach. Beasley is the antithesis of the whole Riley approach, from his demeanor, to his physical attributes, to his fit with the offense, to his not being an ideal PF, to his lack of defense. THAT SAID, he can be something in someone else's offense, one that caters to smallish, offensively-gifted athletic Power Forwards.

Why did we draft him? It pretty simple. He was the consensus #2 pick in the draft, and when you have a talent like Beasley available, you draft him, despite the obvious drawbacks. Worst case scenario, you can eventually trade him. Well, we've just about come to that point. At the time we weren't positive he wouldn't fit. There was talk that he most likely won't fit and I think that Riley and Spo figured it out pretty early it wasn't going to work long-term. But why not see what you got first? So thats the approach they went with.

There's nothing personal against the kid. I wanted to see him succeed. We needed offensive firepower at the time and there was a glaring hole at SF and we thought maybe he could fit there in our system. But he is indeed a finesse PF which isn't what we need at that position.

So I wish him well and D-Cook well. As for Beaz some team will come along and trade for him. There's always a market for offensively gifted, young PFs. You can't tell me he has ZERO trade value. That's just ignorant. There's 30 teams in the NBA and and not ONE would be interested in trading for him? Not you personally, but those who think Beasley has no value are tremendously mistaken. Probably the same crowd who thinks Wade is going to leave.

For coaching, I think you give coaches too much credit in developing players. There's only so much you can do with a player that doesn't fit your system.

Ethan's just another media douche that doesn't know basketball and doesn't have any sources.

I met him at a game before and asked him a semi above basic basketball related question and he was puzzled.

I can guarantee that a Wade/Amare/3rd max trio would lead the league in scoring. Also, don;t forget that our "system" was good enough to lead the league in defense this past year...with what most "experts" called scrubs.

We are good to go my boys. Good to go. Not a single Heat fan should have a worry in the world!

This is what we waiting 4 years of three first round exits and a season of being the worst team in the NBA for. Let's enjoy it, because it is GOING TO BE FUN. It's going to be A LOT of fun. What comes after will be even more fun.

The "worrying" as in becoming instant championship contenders and having actual expectations..

Which team will be better in 2010: the Dolphins or the Heat?

Honestly... Miami might just punch the rest of the country in the mouth this fall.

Thats the dumbest approach ever then. If all of his weaknesses and strengths are the exact opposite of your system... you either do 1 of 2 things. Draft a different player, or change your system. We did neither. And when we "quickly realized" he wasnt a fit... instead of being a good coach and adjust your system to fit your talent... we continually tried to fit square pegs in round holes.

Its just so ****ing frustrating. And I give a coach too much credit to be able to adjust his system to fit his players? Huh? Thats what good coaches do! Bad coaches try to cram "their" system down peoples throats when they dont even have the talent to fit it. We werent close to contending for titles, so the fact that "his system" wins championships is irrelevant. Honestly... what good did that system do for us the past 2 first years? 1st round exits? Instead, we blew the opportunity of the #2 pick and probably ruined Beasley...

    ****ing brilliant...

You forgot option 3: You draft the 2nd most talented player and consensus #2 pick in that years draft without changing your system and hope to trade him for something that does fit later. In the NBA you always go talent first unless youre talking about a "final piece of the puzzle type of player". You simply have to. This isnt like football where you should even consider drafting for need over talent. If youre drafting in the lottery its because you NEED everything and talent rules. In football you have building blocks you need at QB and LT and maybe a few other positions....In baseball you NEED pitching. The talent pool for basketball is much smaller and theres a much larger difference in the picks it seems over the years. Occasionally a player or two slips through the cracks but you can count on one hand the Hall of Famers that weren't taken in the first round and on a yearly basis you can count on one hand the all stars not taken in round 1. The majority of both are high lottery picks. Beasley will have a good career, I just dont know if its a live up to a #2 overall pick type of career. My concern with Beasley was/is that he may have more of a Zach Randolph career where his stats are very hollow and hes a very inconsistent, albeit, young player. :wink2:

Yes. Imagine paying the most (over)hyped player in the NBA a max contract and to end the run with nothing to show for it. You really think you wouldn't be heartbroken over that?

I'd be heartbroken if we pay Wade and two other guys big money and don't get some championships to show for it.

After watching crap like Eddy Curry, Jerome James etc parade around in Knicks uniforms over the last 7 years a bunch of 55 win season and 2nd round playoff losses looks better even though I want my team at the top like any real fan does. I mean the Knicks/Rockets finals stung bigtime but these last 7 years have been torture if youre a die hard knick fan like me. So like I said, it cant get any worse.

Fine... if we wanted to do that b/c he didnt fit... sure. Then draft him and trade him after the draft. Or, give it 1 year, really test it out... and if he doesnt fit (which he clearly didnt), then trade him. Dont wait until you kill his value after a couple of years of trying to fit a square peg in a round hole... making him look terrible... and killing his confidence. Now he isnt worth anything compared to what he was last year, or on draft day...

Pat Riley is all in on the 3 max plan. Working on Jones buyout and trying to trade Beasley for one of Dooling/gomes who would be waived, only counting for about $500K on the cap. Also waiting on Joel to decide on opt out.

    Riley is going for LBJ

For me, An NFL Preseason game trumps a game 7 of the NBA Finals any day of the week but you are right. The only contender for next year as of right now are the Lakers but sources said they're shopping Bynum and Phil Jackson is leaning towards retirement. BUT I also heard they might pick up Raja Bell. I hope Wade can develop a mid to outside consistent jumper because just like him and Lebron, they're success comes from their athleticism and Wade is starting to get up there. Not to mention the amount of times he hits the ground.

That would take too much confidence and basically admit to tampering and collusion.

In the "legal" world, you have to keep Beasley for a S&T deal. Namely Rudy Gay or Bosh. (Amare I think will sign straight up if asked.)

Wade's in his prime, man. This is when he's supposed to play the best basketball of his career... which is scary when you consider what he did in the '06 Finals.

IDK. A tampering or collusion charge from the commish can bury a franchise this summer. he (Stern) has the power to prevent a player from signing with a particular team.

What? That leaves them with $7 million remaining.

Can we really afford 3 without trading Beasley? I think by having Beas under contract each max guy would have to take a little less, but I could be wrong.

I think you may have to go to the max to get rudy or Johnson if that Chicago rumor is true and the rumors the grizzlies will match offers on rudy gay.

Bosh on ESPN radio this morning basically confirmed he is waiting on lebron...
