Season 3 premier was tonight (in case a few missed it, it'll be on Demand and running all week I suspect) and was pretty badass. The only negative was Tara, who sucks as a character... Hopefully her storyline doesn't drag the season down like it did in season 2 (although S2 was great for the most part, until the end).

Having read a bunch of the books, season 3 is one of, if not the best. There's a lot of really cool **** that happens. I imagine Alan Ball will change some stuff as he always does, but it's usually for the better as evident in season 2.

I'm also glad to see a few minor characters get played up, such as Pam, who is quickly becoming one of my favorites. I also like the fact they're using real wolves as oppose to something like CGI.

What did you guys think of the episode?

yeah so far it is a bit different from the 3rd book.
Sookie was looking for Bill instead of Eric.
I LOVE the fact that the'ye using real wolves unlike that bull**** Twilight movie.

The Queen and the selling of "V" is pretty interesting though, since it wasn't a part of the book. I only read up to the 3rd book so far, I'm wondering if I should start reading the 4th in case they start to intertwine them.

I enjoyed the premiere. I thought S2 dragged on way too long with the Maenad storyline though. I could only take so much of seeing fat hillbillies have orgies everywhere.

I almost wonder if that wasn't the main reason they did. I mean they look cheesy as hell on Twilight, so I can see why they didn't.

I caught the Season 3 premier last night as well. The story literally picked up where Season 2 left off.

To be safe, I'll just use the spoilers tag from here on out, as I'm not sure what

I'm excited to see that Pam may be getting a bigger role this season, I've felt she was underutilized in the past. She's taking on the role of Eric's muscle, and watching her shake down Lafayette was actually pretty interesting. Speaking of shakedowns, Sookie continues to grow as a character, and I rolled a little bit when she asked Eric for money.

The Jason/Andy stuff continues to be entertaining, but the rest of the town story seems to be dragging a little bit. I don't really care about Arlene's pregnancy, and Tara has officially crossed over into annoying territory. She was one of the best parts of the first season, but the stupid choices she continues to make have just destroyed her character. She's dumb. Honestly I was almost hoping that she would commit suicide.

The Sam/Bill dream was ... interesting ... not my cup of tea but I'm not one to judge.

I do love the "Post Mortem" short which gives us a behind the scenes glimpse. Nice work to use actual wolves for the project. I haven't read the books, but I'm guessing those wolves will intertwine with Sam's search for his family ... after all, we know he can shift into any kind of animal, so why not a wolf?

If I'm not mistaken, the fourth book has nothing to do with anything we will see this season. The 4th book is Eric centric and I have no idea how they're going to do it considering who the villains are suppose to be. I mean, it was just cheesy IMO. Book 3 is the last of the really good sookie stories until book 7 IMO. Don't click if you don't want to know
Witches. the Eric storyline was great, but the main baddies were kinda meh IMO.

The V storyline is entirely Alan Ball's creation, so have no fear in reading ahead.

    Just caught it today...
    1. Tara and her ****ing mother need to die in a fire.
    2. Yesterday.
    3. The werewolf storyline promises to be interesting.
    4. I could have lived my entire life not seeing that goddamn Sam and Bill seduction scene and been perfectly happy.
    5. Why the **** is Tara still alive?

Big-picture: I see that we can expect more of the time-wasting nonsense that we saw beginning with season 2, like the hick waitress' pregnancy (seriously, who gives a ****?) and the totally incongruous Sam/Bill scene.

When you're only doing 10 episodes a year, do you really need to waste airtime on crap like that?

The first season was so good because it was so focused; the stories were tight, the characters developing as it went along.

On that note, I guess the Jason character is just destined to be the same buffoon he turned into last season instead of blossoming as he could have after S01.

    And Tara is still alive.

There are good and bad things about reading the books and then watching the series. I was looking forward to finally seeing
Bubba, and him subsequently killing this bad *** werewolves/biker gang dude in Sam's office.

But then again we get original ideas like the selling of "V" and Jason's "***** overflow". Unfortunately we also get Tara and her mom whom are not any major characters in the books.

This show is awesome. I always reset my tivo to sunday evenings right after the new episode ends to make sure i never miss it. Best show on TV IMO...well this and Californication.

This episode was ok, good opening to get in to deeper stuff I suppose. Tara needs to go away for a while like to a safehouse or something to recover. Her character gets irritating...they need to get her refocused.

Bill's character is hilarious...like what a gentleman for a vampire. He didnt drain the grandma, instead he just snacked and gave her some money

And yes I could have done without the scene with sam. Next.

True Blood is probably the best show on TV, IMO. At the very least, it contends with Dexter. At the end of the day, it's sci fi. You either like it or don't.

For me, the premier was an extension of season 2 as it picked up right where it left off. I imagine next week we'll get right into the heart of what season 3 is about. As I said, this season is based on book 3 which is amazing and there should be some great stuff coming up. I'd give it a few weeks. It's not like there's anything else on at that time-slot anyway.

I disagree about season 2 having a lot of "time wasting." I thought the Meanad stuff went on to long, but it was a legitimate storyline. I agree about Tara. The character is hard to sympathize with because she's an ******* who is so extreme. I liked her better in season 1 as a side character. Although I suspect her storyline in season 3 will be interesting because of what I know about the book (even though Alan Ball will be expanding and changing details of that story).

Arlene is a character on the show. Just because you don't like her, doesn't mean it's a waste of time... That part of the episode lasted what? 30 seconds? I don't suspect her storyline will take up a lot of time even if she is pregnant.

Jason is a buffoon though. I don't think he'll be getting anymore Fellowship of the Sun stories, so he ha evolved in that way... Ultimately, he is the comedy of the show and I like his character and story tbh. I also like his relationship with Andy. They're a good onscreen team. I also like that Hoyt is joining in and becoming a better character (also the Jessica stuff).

Maybe the best show on tv? That's a sad commentary imo.
Vampires and Werewolves one would have to admit, has been a near played out genre. I will admit it was kinda fresh and entertaining the first two seasons but I see this spiraling real fast.

Each show is about 50 minutes or so; they do 10 shows per year...that's about 8 1/2 hours of programming a year for a show that we love and look forward to the majority of the year.

And you don't think any time wasted on bull**** storylines like the pregnancy of a minor character (who also happens to be stupid and dull) is a waste of valuable real estate?

It's 12 episodes, not 10. Just clarifying. If Arlene's story takes up valuable time, then I'll agree with you. Until then, I'm not concerned.

Vampires are played out, but TB been around for a few years now. It's not like some BS show trying to capitalize on Twilight (which, for the record, the sookie stackhouse stories came first) like others out there. It's its own show.

I really like the show and the characters. I think the creators have done a great job and I look forward to every episode. If you disagree, feel free to watch CSI Miami or something.

Vampires and werewolves might be played out but the way True Blood portrays them is a whole hell of a lot different than Twilight or any other show/movie out there.

It's similar but very different at the same time IMO.

I forget to mention before... One of the oddest moments of the show was Sam dreaming about Bill. Sam drank bills blood and thus has sexual attraction to him. It's what Bill told Sookie after Eric tricked her into drinking his (she also had a dream about Eric).

That scene confused the **** out of me until I read that. I had forgotten that Bill saved Sam with his blood after the Maenad stabbed him.

I thought it was a solid start to the 3rd Season. I've read the books up to date (10 I think) but the series has its own characters and twists so I don't think it ruins anything. I agree about the Tara storyline, its gotten tired and her character isn't very interesting anymore. The other storylines have a lot of potential. Jessica is not in the books that I remember so she is one good thing added, I think seeing a young vampire going through the change is fun to watch, adds a lot to the story IMO. The Magistar (sp?) is a character with a lot of potential, Eric and the Queen pretty much have to kill him at some point I would think....well it was a solid start I'm looking forward to the rest of the season. I was a fan of the books years before the series started on TV so its been a fun ride for me.

I didn't mean the look and feel, I mean the things that these creatures do. Twilight isn't rated R so you won't see Edward ripping throats out whereas in TB it's got tons of violence and sex (which is great).

The ideas might be similar but the styles are total opposites

The scene made sense to me as I remembered that BIll saved Sam with his blood. But having thought about that for a while, now I'm a little confused with the whole "V" plotline.

If you ingest vampire blood, apparently it makes you attracted to that particular vampire, and at the same time that Vampire can feel you, or at least how you are, where you are at?

So, if that were the case as it is with Sookie/Eric's blood and now Sam/Bill's blood, wouldn't there be a whole boatload of people in Bon Temps dreaming about this guy?

For that matter, since it's the Queen's blood now that is being sold, shouldn't everyone be dreaming about her? And wouldn't that pretty much make it easy as hell to find out who the vampire is that is selling "V"?

I think my head just exploded

Good point! Although to be clear, I don't think the blood the Queen is supplying is hers specifically.

Maybe the blood has to be fresh or actual contact with the vamp? It's def. a plothole I don't think has been addressed.

say what you will about the way they write tara and her mom, but those 2 women are great actresses. the whole cast is extremely well acted. id have to say bill and suki are probably the weakest actors of the cast, and they are solid too. they deserve a ton of credit for the cast they put together, but yeah, they need to not waste the viewers time with build-up and bull**** and frivolous plots. but i did thoroughly enjoy season 2.

the battlestar series is another that has issues with this problem. i watched an entire season of Caprica go nowhere. but my love for all things Adama will keep me coming back.

Now this was an awesome episode and much better than the premiere, which I did enjoy. The only thing I hated was Tara, and she was tolerable. Although it's a matter of time before that ends.

I really enjoyed the scenes with Eric and Godric being secret agent vampires hunting down Nazi werewolves. I hope this is a continuing storyline. I suspect it will be, or else is was random as hell. This is a storyline NOT in the books so I'm looking forward to seeing how this plays out. Perhaps the King of Mississippi is the one supplying the Weres with blood and Eric will have a showdown with him later. The only problem with that theory is the King has a thick southern accent. I doubt he was in Germany. Or maybe the accent became thicker during the last 50+ years or whatever.

In S1, every character had their story—but it served the greater story arc.

In S2, they started to stray from that; the hillbilly sex was hard to take, and the idiocy of it all was almost too much—Sookie getting trapped underneath a fat, sweaty, ugly hick for almost an entire episode was both revolting and a waste of airtime, and the plot suffered for it.

Plus, they took the character of Jason from a good guy who just tended to act up sometimes, to the flesh-and-blood equivalent of Daffy Duck.

Now, instead of learning from S2's excesses and tightening up the adjunct stories in S3, they've actually gotten worse.

Now we have Lafayette's crazy-assed mother on board too?! How is that **** going to advance the main story arc?

And by the way, what the **** IS the main story arc, anyway?!

So far all we have is the absolutely ridiculous premise that a vampire is actually controlling werewolves; and not just any vampire—we have the Bob Barker of vampires and his sidekick, Richard Simmons.

And his grand scheme, after decades and possibly centuries of plotting and conniving? He wants to marry the crazy-assed Queen of Louisiana.

Ooo, I can't wait to see what happens next.

What's wrong with that? They're weaker than vampires (in this universe, which is directly from the books) and they're addicted to vampire blood. I think it's kind of interesting tbh.

I'm digging all of the other storylines except for Sam's family. The dude just can't catch a break. True it's a show that caters to drama in people's lives but to me it just seems a little forced. Why can't his folks be relatively not douchebags?
