http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/jets/face_facts_jets_ladainian_is_pretty_qxy5KHbjF4z2bgyOcurpAO As I have been telling Jets fans up here why they got rid of a younger Jones for a beatup running back is just baffling to me, and if they intend to use LT as a 3rd down back that is even MORE baffling when you consider they had one of the scariest 3rd down backs in Leon Washington.
haha TJ is 32. LT is 30. Leon Washington scored a grand total of zero touchdowns last season and is now playing with a metal rod in his leg. Keep trying to spin, however! Greene is the future.
LT was done 2 years ago...man has an inflated self image...poser, not a leader in any sense....not tough..his fear of being hit has affected his game...
I agree done he is not, he will be a situational back....LT catching balls out of the backfield in space can still be dangerous.... he is an upgrade over Washington, who with this injury he just suffered, you probably wont hear from him much...
I am still yet to find a jet fan anywhere who can explain to me how you replace TJ's 29 TD's over the last two seasons. LT and Greene combined won't give you that kind of production. TJ was support for Sanchez just like he was for Grossman in Chicago. Without him Sanchez will struggle just like Grossman did.
Jones was due $5.8 million this year and is now 32. As Zeke pointed out earlier, he has had a ****load of carries the last two years. He averaged 2.6 ypc in the playoffs. The man is absolutely done. Not to mention, AGAIN, that Jones had no breakaway speed, couldn't elude defenders, and couldn't break tackles. It isn't hard running through truck-sized holes which is what the Jets OL provided in '08 and '09. I seriously doubt that you watched that many Jets games if you feel that Jones is so irreplaceable. I mean, just watching Greene in the playoffs, you saw what a bull he was.
Thing is killa they will be fine, Greene can be just as good, younger, fresher, he showed that in the playoffs last year..... If you have an Oline as good as theirs or ours, we could run through it...The jets issue is the same as ours, to see their/ours offense go to a new level.......that being the QB's......
Exactly, with offensive lines as good as the Jets' and Dolphins', you could throw almost anyone back there and they'll give you production.
The great thing about having Greene and Jones was that neither would have to carry the whole load this year. There's no way LT can share carries, he's basically a 3rd down back, so now you have a young back in Greene (who was already hurt once last year in the most important game of the season) taking the majority of carries. It was a move that could've been made next year, instead of this year. Other than media hype I still don't understand why it was done now.
I still have the image in my head of LT sulking on the bench during the AFC championship game with a sprained knee while his QB played with a torn ACL. He got a lot of slack for it and IMO all if it deserved.
Thats the thing, if nothing else TJ kept Greene fresh and vice versa, LY I dont picture doing that....the Jets in order to take the next step are going to have to open it up a little more...their offense was entirely to predictable last year.... If Greene has over 300 caries I dont think that does well for the offense, or Greene IMO....
Thing is with both our lines we can plug in a variety of different backs and still be successful. I think LT is a drop off but still with their line he's going to be effective.
I'd rather see LT in the open field than Leon Washington, even with a metal rod in his leg. Two years ago, I'd agree but now? No.
Greene isn't the future, he's the Jets' present. It's a risk they're taking by sending TJ and Washington away. It could work, only way to tell is by playing him as the starter.
You mean you'd rather have Leon? EDIT: Misread your post. I agree. A bionic Leon is more dangerous than LT.
Bottom line is that the Jets down graded their running back unit..... 32 or not, TJ was much more productive than LT was last year or will be this year. And they lost Leon Washington. Replacing those guys is fine......replacing them with a worn out LT? Not so much...
JS could Greene replace TJ?? I think so.....I agree and ur right about LT being a downgrade over Washington though, fo sho!!!!!!!!!!, in any event win for us....
I think the best spin job is from you guys thinking signing LT was all about what is best for the Jets football team, this signing was all about selling PSL's.
Unless Greene is injured, recall when he was leaned on in the playoffs he missed the second half of the Chargers Game and the Colts game his participation was limited. If/when Greene goes down, it will be LT and ????? to replace him?
You still didn't answer my question. I didn't say a word about the Jets having to bring him back. I asked how you will replace that type of production. I touched on the value of his leadership with a young QB. Do you think that will come from LT. No way because LT cares about himself. He was never a team player. You talk about Jones being done but LT is totally done regardless of the age. As for Greene you don't know if he can stay healthy and if he can't the Jets are in for big trouble. If you want my answer I see the Jets relying on having the pass the ball more often to make up for lost production. Jones may have been done by the end of last season but the guy provided more than you are leading on and I don't think his value to the team has been replaced. It is one thing to say they have done it. It is another thing completely to prove it.
I'm with RB on this one, if the media would stop blowing Rexxy, they would realize they subtracted 1,300 yds and 10 Td's and a all pro Scatback, and replaced them with a massive USC underachiever and a starting Running Back who has a grand total of 1 season as a starter in College under his belt. This is a team that runs the ball to survive, their depth behind LT is..no one. At least the Dphins have Lexxy and PCobbs
As soon as things go bad with LT and the Jets he will sit on the sidelines with his shielded helmet and pout. Adding a lot of former big name players does little for team chemistry, but that seems to be Ryan's plan. I'd rather go with younger players who will be around for a while.
And there's the key....you think. He had three good games, fumbles often, and all of a sudden he's the future. Good luck.
Not to mention this is now a two-back league. The really successful playoff teams this year all had multiple backs, the Saints probably the most notable with Bush, Bell (and I know they had another one but can't think of him). The Colts had Addai and Donald Brown. Hell, even the Jets had Thomas Jones AND Shonn Greene. Hmmmm.....
Lt was a bad pickup he is injury prone and has lost a big step in what he showed in the breakout season he had years ago.
He got hurt against the Saints also. And if he runs like he did last year in 2010, he wont make it to the bye week.
Green replaces TJ. Who replaces Greene? Who replaces Leon? Looks like more pass plays for the Jets this year. Hope you have a good quarterba...Oh wait, never mind.
