while I agree that franchise needs a revamp, I think they have a lot of problems I would like fixed before the franchise mode is messed with. Like AI blockers being idiots, animations that run you out of bounds, phantom INTs, and defenders that jump 12 feet.... The problem is, none of that will be fixed.
Howso? As in they just haven't improved it at all still, or they are taking it out for this generation? That's really all I do in Madden or other sports games, so it's sad to me to hear it being ignored.
Didn't improve it at all. They said it'll take "a few years" to get it to where they really want it to be, so they just left it alone and whatever they worked on won't be delivered until the finished product of a revamped franchise mode in Madden 12.
While I agree with that, just face it... game play in Madden will likely never even match the game play in NFL 2k5. I've just about convinced myself to find peace in Madden's game play and just live with it to the point where I at least want franchise mode to be perfect. By the looks of the E3 videos, it seems as though they spent an entire year working on a FG kicking meter. Nah, really... blocking has improved big time, along with running animations (locomotion) and catching the ball. Receivers actually go after the ball now, actually make an effort to keep their feet in bounds, and WR/DB collisions have supposedly been revamped as well. Gus Johnson is also a great addition - this is the first time I'll be playing Madden for a full season without my games being muted. I just find it hard to believe that along with game flow all of that took a year's work. They're slacking. Ian & Co. showed so much progression last year only to take a major step back.
It just amazes me how game play, presentation, and the game modes are unquestionably better in Fifa and NHL than Madden. NCAA took a leap ahead of Madden this year as well with the ESPN integration and the improvements they've made to Dynasty mode, most notably recruiting.
Check out the way Anquan Boldin actually positions himself (never before seen in a Madden game) to catch the football in the corner of the endzone. Again, this is something that worked well in NFL 2k5. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIDi2R8ko94"]YouTube- E3: Madden NFL 11 Gameplay[/ame]
Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals. Ask the Natsume rep why their name translation is inconsistent. The guy's name is Idura in the SNES version, but apparently they can't make up their minds if he's to be named Idura or Idula in the DS translation. Secondary concerns: projected MSRP for the 3DS, whether or not Medal of Honor is any good, and any information on the 3DS version of Ninja Gaiden. (Is it a port? A new game? Just a tech demo?) Thanks.
Man, I'm a HUGE Zelda fan but this looks like the worst one yet. Edit: did they not show anything on the Last Guardian?
Terrance Trunk would be amazing if that was in 2010. Just having the wide recievers going up and going for the ball is a huge improvement.
Not hugely excited about gameflow for Madden 11, I know it's optional and they're trying to make the game easier to play for more people and make the games quicker, but just a lot of time for a feature I'm not sure is needed. Guess won't know how it is until game is out. Adding plays and rating them for certain situations seems ok, but kind of like scrolling through my playbook and substituting players for different things. Play calling format has been the same since forever basically and seems to get the job done, lot of other issues should have warranted more attention. If you play online and you use gameflow and other guy doesn't, game will still take some time. The audio, graphics, and presentation seem to have been upgraded a little at least. Very disappointed if Online Franchise is just left as is until 2012 though. The issues aren't hard to spot and most I don't think would require much work. Things like adding in a salary cap might, but there are a lot of other things missing. Just use an updated Online Franchise to sell 2012 I guess, not like NFL football fans have much alternative. Speaking of audio they said they talked to teams to find out what songs played on kickoffs, after touchdowns, etc. How cool would it be to score with Miami and hear, "Phins to the left, Phins to the right!"
For Online Franchise they said it would take two years to fix it. So it isn't "just left until 2012". It is, "we need until 2012 to finish it". It is a pretty big chunk of code to get done. I am super excited about Game Flow. I just ask madden anyways since I do not want to go through an entire menu everytime I want to pick a freaking play. To be able to set up a game plan and have it select plays from the game plan, I think is freaking awesome. It is much more realistic and it will be like me programming "ask Madden". SO I will get everything I get from ask madden, with extra bonus of being able to tell it to ask madden.
It does look better. They showed a few videos where their lineman doesn't actually run away from the person who is right in front of them. I would love it, if they took away the ability of a person who is pushed to go into tackle animation when it doesn't make any sense.
Played it a little today and truth to be told, it does nothing for me. Sure, it looks the part and it actually plays pretty well but there's no soul. Been there, done that. If it was a woman, it would be the pretty blonde with the large boobs and the non-existent personality. If that's your cup of tea, you will have fun though.
That's ... uhm ... a very interesting question I will ... uhm ... ask when ... uhm ... gotta go I have my appointments with EA and Nintendo tomorrow. Maybe I got something for you by then.
Also Vendigo, if you get any time with the Move I'd welcome any and all comments as I am looking at getting one.
I don't know whether to or . But really, this just hints to me that the translation isn't quite as polished as one would expect. Or maybe I'm just spoiled by Alexander O. Smith, who did the translation and rewriting for Phoenix Wright, FFT: WotL, Final Fantasy XII, and MadWorld. And questioning whether or not the translation on a cult classic is worth a damn is legitimate. Atlus would agree with me. Thanks again, man. Hoping there's something to that Ninja Gaiden demo. Would love to see a new entry in the series, and I'm very disappointed they didn't announce Ninja Gaiden 3.
I was disappointed they didn't go further in the direction of Twilight Princess, but we're talking about Nintendo here.
i read somewhere that there was a lot of technical challenges with the look they chose for Twilight Princess. It was a speculative piece of course, so who knows.
Well from what I have seen it took a step back visually compared to TP. I played TP on the GC so I don't know what the Wii motion controls were like but based off the videos of this new game it looks very gimmicky. Also, add in the fact that they have said they want to make the already easy Zelda games easier for the general public. So I'm just not holding high hopes for it. Now with that said, I'll still buy it and most likely love it all the way to the finish. Does anyone count that as a real Zelda?
I'd imagine the only technical challenge with Twilight Princess was translating what was an inherently cartoony series in Zelda into a more western fantasy type of world. It's easy to figure out what Link and Zelda would look like in that style, but octorocks and the like? Not as much. On further reflection, I don't really have a problem with the new art style, as it sort of looks like what Link to the Past would be like in 3D. (LttP is still the greatest Zelda game ever made.) It's just disappointing after the promotional artwork released last year suggested it would extend Twilight Princess' style. And speaking of technical challenges, I guess Link is now right-handed as a result of the motion controls. Or at least, the incarnations of Link in Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword are right-handed. Since each Link is a separate person, it makes sense that eventually there'd be a couple of righties. The game will sell millions and everyone will be happy for the next four years, so I guess worrying about the art style is a moot point. Right now the biggest mystery surrounding the game's design is which of the split timelines it takes place in.
I must say... all of the Madden game play videos have me excited for the game now. They dropped the ball on franchise mode, but the game play looks REALLY good. I'm actually seeing blocking up front, and blockers leaving one assignment for the other to open things up downfield. Locomotion looks really nice and players do not move as robotic as before too.
How long have we waited for something as simple as this: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUFHqpycLj8"]YouTube- Madden NFL 11 Video: Sideline Catch, Toe Drag[/ame]
I know it's a little old now but my brother was at E3 for the mag he works for (got the free 360 slim too) his review of some of the games worth checking out was just published (don't be jealous)... http://www.zooweekly.com.au/bloke-news/games/zoo-man-goes-to-e3.htm My bro ripped the madden guy, they still haven't fixed things like progression and the sideline/out of bounds... look forward to another, mildly improved, roster update.
