To me, Ricky breaks the all time Dolphins rushing yardage record this year as imho the Oline will be better as well as Henne's development takes that extra defender out of the line of scrimmage box.

Does Ricky Williams break the record this year?

I'd love to see it but if Ronnie stays healthy....... no, can't see him getting enough carries. Close maybe, but not quite

Ronnie playing 16 games is a big "if" tho

Well, in the subconscious the idea is forming that we maybe see 2 1000 yd backs if both stay healthy enough.

And to me, Williams's competitiveness is belied by all of the meditation/hippy/flake personae, he still has that fire inside.

i cant see it happen unless the same thing as last year happens and he becomes our #1 again. He will do great he just wont get enough carries.

The health of both him and Ronny will play an important factor. (Capt. Obvious, reporting for duty!)

I think with Ronnie and Cobbs coming off their injuries, Sparano could use Ricky a bit more. Marshall will open the running game up a bit. Offensively the Fins will be more potent. I can see Ricky breaking the record this year.

With Henning and Sparano running things, it is not like we will become "Air Sparano" anytime soon.

I still chuckle at Nolan's "plan" to treat every turnover as an opportunity to score a TD via laterals...yeahh, I can see that..HC Sparano would need Soliai and Carey to pull him off his choke attempt on Nolan over on the sideline the first time one of those laterals is turned back over...:sidelol:

Point being, of all the acquisitions, Rich Incognito is "Sparano's Guy", if anything we REALLY pound the ball this year Sparano is at time Old School like Shula was in the early 70's..no mistakes..period.

Agree totally. We will still be a run first play action pass type offense this season. You stick to your strength to open up your passing game. We will see them take a few more shots down field I'm hoping but you still have to pound the ball especially with a new defensive scheme. Play to keep them off the field.

The "Air Sparano" term made me laugh a little bit.

If Rick stays healthy which there is no reason to think he won't, he should be in a good spot to break Zonk's record.

With our Nolan improved defense keeping the offense on the field, our passing game opening up the running game, the bigger & meaner and more experienced OL opening bigger holes, I think even if Ronnie stays healthy the whole year (PLEASE), then we see two backs with 1,000+ yard seasons. So I'm voting yes.

Like to see him do it but think there's no way. Ronnie will stay healthy and get the most yards, but Ricky will still have a good year. Yeah, feeling optimistic.

I love Ricky Williams because he overcame incredible issues in his personal life and restarted his career. He made a lot of people eat crow and I just love that. This guy looks ageless and impresses me every single game.

    - However -

I never want to see Ricky break Csonka's record. Good is good and great is great but a legend should stand forever. For almost 40 years the Csonk has been my favorite player. I hope Ricky keeps playing great, but I hope he comes a yard short of the record.

Assuming, ahem, Ronnie stays healthy all year, I don't think he will get enough carries to get it done. Not with what I assume will be a more productive passing game with more "chunk" yards. It's not that he is not capable of it, I just don't think he will have enough opportunities to make it happen.

    Hmmm, well:

973 yds 4 ypc on average, 240 carries or so, 16 games or about 15 carries per game, Williams should be right around those numbers, though I suspect he will have a better per carry average than 4 ypa.

I don't see it happening unless RB goes down AGAIN. I just think Ricky will have around 700 yards. With our offense opening up things more this year, that means the passing plays will increase. Which, in turn, means the running plays will be decreased.

Remember....Wanny isn't here to run the ball every down.

Like Gunn34 said, I just don't think he will see the ball as often with the increase that I expect in passing plays.

Imho we are getting the wrong idea g34, we added BMarsh, that doesn't mean we see Dan Henning go Run and Shoot, the Oline and Running the ball are the strength of the offense, Sparano hates turnovers, so we will primarily run the ball imho.

I agree with a sportswriter who recently wrote that Ricky might be a better #1 option than Ronnie. Either way I want to see both Ricky and Ronnie have a lot of carries this season.

I agree that we are not going to all of a sudden drop the running game, that is our bread and butter over the last 2 years and we are good at it. I do think we will see more passing this year than in the past. I also expect that we will get more "chunk" yardage from that passing game as well and this could conspire to limit the carries that Ricky would need to get the yards he needs to pass Csonka this year.

Look, it could go completely the opposite. With the loosening of the opposing defense in the box, there could be an "explosion" of yards in the running game because of all the extra room.

Which ever way it goes it will be fun to watch. As that TO fella says, "get your popcorn ready".

Zonk is a legend as a Fin and nothing will change that. If or when Ricky surpasses him, it means nothing.

That said, IF RB is recovered enough by the start of the season from the Lis Franc and then stays healthy, Ricky stands to get in the 400-700 yrd range at best....

And there were those 3 yrs with Giants..just sayin'.

If Ricky does break Zon's record it is not as if Zonk then fades into obscurity, in fact I'd bet most fans don't know Zonk holds that record as Marino just dominated everything for a decade and a half.

Now if Ricky does get that record he then will have carved out his place in Dolphins History aside from the 2003-06 period.

Fun thing about that was the handoff that was fumbled and returned by Herm Edwards for the win in the Miracle at the Meadowlands game was supposed to go to Csonka. The QB never got the ball to him.

Between Marshall, and Ronnie Brown vying for offensive attention, and a defensive focus on gaining yards after the turnover, no, I don't think its going to happen.

That being said, I hold the right to change my answer if Ronnie goes down. Because if so that changes things heavily.

However even though Williams was great last year, it was obvious that a lot of his prowess was due to him having Ronnie in there as a focal point for the defense. Once Ronnie bowed out, he didn't have the same YPA. Better numbers overall, obviously because his carries increased, but I am pretty sure his YPA dropped... I should probably research that beforehand, but I'll just go off memory.
