So there's a new Mortal Kombat Something out. Not sure if this is a movie, a game, proof of concept, or what. But it looks pretty damn awesome.

Personally, I really like this as it gives a backstory to Mortal Kombat, something that we've never really seen before.

Its a movie from what I'm hearing. They need funding thought and some company is trying to block the movie.

    Looks bad *** though.

Yeah I heard it's a movie as well. I wasn't really blown away by the trailer but it looks a lot better than the second MK movie, I liked the first one. While it does look more graphic and violent I'm disappointed from what I saw with Reptile and kind of with Baraka.

I have always wondered what a Mortal Kombat movie would be like without Paul WS Anderson making it a techno fest.

Wow that trailer was exciting. I think it is a reboot, for the movies, based off of MK2. I REALLY hope this comes to fruition. It would be nice to see a Mortal Kombat movie with some actual production value, and gore.

It is funny, I am in the minority who liked the 2nd movie better than the first. I just found the first so cheesy and stupid. Plus I didn't find the first movie a mortal kombat movie. I felt it could have been almost any story with martial arts.

I thought at least the 2nd movie was mortal kombat.

I actually do like the 2nd as well but I just found everything really rushed and just thought there were too many characters and most of them were just forced into the movie, just to make an appearance. Main characters like Sub Zero had a brief cameo. I wish they just stuck to MK2 characters since they already had way too many to begin with. Plus I wish they focused on another character besides Liu Kang again in this film, but I guess they were just trying to follow the MK2 story.

The Johny Cage backstory makes 0 sense. Have a formerly well-known actor work undercover for you... smart.

Also, I always thought Baracka was an alien.

Either way, you can't beat this performance:

I think originally, Baraka was a mutant from the wasteland of Outworld.

Yeah I agree. It seems to me that they're trying to make this a 'realistic' verison of MK, since Baraka and Reptile aren't a mutant/alien/whatever but are humans. The part in the trailer with Cage beating killed reminded me of 'The Watchmen' a little bit too. I wonder what other characters are going to be in the film since we only saw/heard about Jax, Sonya, Scorpion, Shang Tsung, Reptile, Baraka and Sub Zero.

If they're trying to reboot the series, I think they should just stick to the original MK cast (Liu Kang, Sub Zero, Scorpion, Johnny Cage, Raiden, Sonya, Kano, Goro, Shang Tsung, Reptile and a brief cameo of Jax- since I believe he was mentioned in the video game/comics of the series) and go from there if the film is successful. Then in the next film start to add MK2 characters, that way in the sequel when Johnny Cage dies it will be more meaningful, something that MK2 film didn't do well and it was almost an after thought.

Well it looks to be a reboot, but also a rewrite of the original story. So they may take whatever direction that makes the best overall story/movie. If this is the case, then whoever was in mk1/mk2 would be irrelevant.

Meh I have no problem with them making it more based in reality so to speak. Its still obviously has fantasy elements to it, it just attempts to explain everything a bit more realistically. Thats never a bad thing IMO.

Yeah I agree, the fight with Cage and Baraka wasn't the best by any means, I felt it was a little too long and boring for the most part.

The first movie was basically 'Enter the Dragon' with an MK story arch.

You can't beat this epic fight.

For the record I loved the first MK movie. It is probably one of the better videogame movies... and compared to Street Fighter... yeah.

I refuse to acknowledge the 2nd movie.

Yea, that's what I'm talking about. It's not a real fight unless someone gets kicked and the result is 10 blackflips. Why do they always have to be soo over the top and fake?

It is Mortal Kombat. It's a video game. This isn't supposed to be realistic. In this day and age every single god damn movie has to be "realistic" and not necessarily light hearted fun. This is why I loved Live Free or Die Hard. Yes it may have been over the top, but it was a FUN movie.

By the way, that Liu Kang vs Reptile fight was actually an awesome fight.

    Hmm...interesting to say the least.

I LOVED MK2 and MK Trilogy. The other MK games were ok, but got too cartoony.....Thus I decided to skip them. I'm all for the gore and violence, but I disliked the ragdoll models, and cartooney blood. Making them look BA and realistic would be a good step in the right direction.

Not so sure I like these reboot which drastically changes the look of 2 of my favorite characters (baraka and Reptile), but I'll give it a shot.

Also the first MK movie was decent...even good by video game movie standards. MK2 was god awful. I've managed to expell most of that suck fest from my memory, save for the god awful pan out ending showing lame looking CG "animals" fighting eachother on a cheesy tiered pyramid....ugh

I was at the $2 theater when Mortal Kombat came out with my two stepbrothers.

Apparently there was some malfunction and it took them forever to get it going. The place was packed and everyone was getting hella rowdy but anyways.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuu i wish it was a game man I want to play some mortal kombat online badly. street fighter is fun online but mortal kombat would be epic. like make a badass version of MK2 and i'm a buyer.

I thought the 2nd one was more childish. When I see a movie, I like to be drawn into it, so I need have a little sense of realism to them. Doesnt have to be 100% authentic, but when I find myself questioning the plot or certain aspects of the movie that seem a little too far out there, I've already lost interest and am no longer enjoying the movie itself. I was never a fan of the "power ranger" acrobatic type fight sequences. But, to each his own.

    MK1 > MK2

The way Cage killed the 4-armed dude in MK1 was awesome.

MK2 also featured way too many people in costumes. Besides most of the fights being over the top. The Raiden-God/family/other dimension story arc also took away from the epicness it should have been.

If I am watching a movie that is supposed to be realistic, I want it to be realistic. If I am watching Mortal Kombat I want it to be freaking ridiculous with cool special effects.

I did not like the first movie because it felt so paint by numbers martial arts movie.

To me the first MK movie was like if the first X-Men movie that the mutants rarely used any of their powers and had a bunch of martial arts fights.

Looks like they are trying to turn Dark Knight-ize Mortal Kombat. Making a darker, more "realistic" movie. I definitely got the dark Knight vibe watching it.
