anybody bother to watch TNA last night? they are turning Mr Anderson face, and he seems to be getting a pretty good response. he lost to Hardy last week but tried to shake his hand afterword. this week he lost to AJ Styles via a trunk pull, and then jumped AJ to a big pop, after getting on the mic and commending him for using one of his own tricks.

and apparently Spike is letting them get much edgier, as in his face to face with Jeff Hardy this week, Anderson used the term ***hole to describe himself, the fans, and even Hardy about 2 dozen times, and it did not get edited.

was kinda surprised that word made it by the censors.

i got the same hint of the Stone Cold vibe... Kennedy/Anderson can be a believable anti-hero, because being an ***hole is probably pretty close to his real life personality. :)

and down the road, they can use it to easily turn Angle heel, if and when they need to, by having him get ticked off at the people embracing a guy who is such a jerk, kinda like when Stone Cold and Bret Hart flip-flopped during the Iron Man match with Bret Hart.

and putting on my Samphin booking cap, i was also thinking TNA could steal the angle that WWE was going to use for Kennedy/Anderson. he was supposed to be the guy that was McMahon's illegitimate son in the WWE before flunking a pee test, getting injured, and then fired. since he is using the Anderson surname now, and Flair is in TNA and was supposedly a cousin of Gene, Ole, and Arn Anderson back in the NWA/WCW era, they could make Mr. Anderson a Flair cousin as well. with his bleached blonde hair and cocky attitude, i think he fits the role AJ Styles is playing right now far better as Flair's chosen one. or they could set up an AJ vs Anderson feud, with Flair keeping heat with his "cousin" or eventually turning on AJ in favor of his "cousin."

I havent watched TNA since the moved back to Thursdays, but it sounds like it was the right thing to do for themselves, so kudos. Interesting to see Anderson as a face, and I think I like the idea of him using it as a way to get to Flair.

Meaning, I would love to see him reference Arn and Ole, sort of tongue in cheek and insist that he IS related, knowing full well he actually isn't. But just saying so would send Flair into a hissy fit of epic proportions. It would be a great way to kick off a fued between AJ and Anderson. AND if it was possible on any level, it would be great to stesl Arn away from the WWE to come out during a ppv match and either side with Anderson, or help Flair kill him dead.

No way that ever happens, but I like the tacic of Anderson at least pretending to be related as a way of goading AJ into a fued by way of Flair telling him to do so.

Yup. And they gave Daniel Bryan and Evan Bourne a push. Interesting.

  18. Samphin

Samphin Κακό σκυλί ψόφο δεν έχει

They changed his name so that they could own the rights to it. Plain and simple.

I would scan back a few months and find my post regarding the youth movement that is coming, but I am far too lazy to do so. But I did say that some of the younger guys were going to be getting a larger role on television. Undertaker is once again injured, HHH is in his 40's and has a family to think of long-term and HBK has retired and Batista has quit.

This leaves quite a few spots open for the likes of CM Punk, Sheamus, Swagger and a couple of others. It really is kind of cool to see a bunch of new face spopulate the main event scene. As it is, I wouldn't get TOO excited about Evan Bourne being in the main event. The crowd was hot and he clearly had the momentum, but this type of thing has happened before. It wouldn't surprise me to see him get murdered dead next week by Edge/Sheamus. But for the night, he played the role perfectly.

Jericho looks like he may be starting an angle that I am not too fond of. The infamous, "losing streak," angle. I really hope Wade Barrett wins NXT and comes in as Jericho's muscle full time. He would be perfect as the bodyguard/part-time tag team partner for Jericho, and give his character a much needed boost. To me, he has been floundering a bit as of late.

As for Bryan Danielson, I hope they stick him on Smackdown since he will most certainly get lost on Raw. Plus, it is never a good sign when you are fueding with an announcer...

On a somewhat related note: I think it would be great to see the Light Heavyweight/Cruiserweight belt come back. I know the WWE hates the smaller guys, but they kind of have the right mix of folks to have a successful run with it again. Danielson, Gabriel, Bourne, Tyson Kidd, Yoshi Tatsu, Chavo, The Dude Busters, just to name a few. And if they ever bring up Kaval (TNA's Senshi), they can sit back and watch him and Danielson beat the tar out of one another for that title for a year.

And to that point, I would really like to see them unify the rest of the belts. Have Swagger vs. Cena, Kofi vs. R-Truth, and the Women's titleholders, face off with one another at a ppv and unify all of them. One World Champion, one Intercontinental Champion, one Tag Champion and one Women's Champion. Hell, throw in a four man tourney for the Cruiserweight Title and you have yourselves a "Night of Champions" PPV booked.

You then have each champion have the ability to jump shows. This opens up new storyline opprtunities and storylines and still keeps brand seperation. Here is how I would envision it working. Lets just say Cena is the World Champion, he loses his title to Christian on Smackdown. Christian can now jump back and forth and Cena is now property of Smackdown. Christian loses his title to HHH, who is a member of Raw. Christian is now on Raw and HHH can jump back and forth, so on and so forth.

This doesn't affect the draft other than rendering the current champions undraftable. What is DOES do though is put some semblence of importance on the titles. So, lets say Undertaker is pissed with John Morrison, but they are on competing brands. You can have the UT go after the World title, fail at it, and instead, settle on grabbing the IC title, just so that he can jump to Raw ti beat Morrison down. In the mean time, Morrison can bait UT from afar, getting himself some heat and eventually, an IC title win over the UT or whatever.

This also makes the champs more important since they have the ability to come and go as they please, essentially. Nice little perk as a champ (even if in reality it means more travel). Jericho could hold a title and refuse to appear on one of the brands unless forced to. His character could sell that forever.

    Just my thought anyways.

I'm definitely down with having less titles, because it will make being a champion mean something. With that being said I don't think it can work with the current system the WWE has with the 2 seperate brands, since they have way too many wrestlers on the rosters, and some of them need the belts to help get their character over. The WWE when they first started the two brands had the single 'World' champion that jumped from brand to brand but they stopped it for some reason (I think it had to do with poor house show attendance/ratings when the champion wasn't on the show or something like that). Plus it does get too predictible with the champion jumping from one brand to another every over month or so after a feud is over with.

I think the WWE should really just focus on the two seperate brands and not having wrestlers jumping from show to show without a real explaination and also stop having drafts each year. Trades should be allowed but only used a few times here and there when a wrestler really needs a change or the brand is low on main event heels (i.e. like Kofi doing nothing after getting depushed on RAW or Jericho coming over to RAW). Just keep the rosters locked in, that way when a wrestler does get traded or moves to another brand it will mean something.

The other alternative is to simply do away with the 2 brands and just have one big brand but to do that they would have to dump a ton of wrestlers and I'm sure they don't want to just hand over talent to TNA. Of course they can always get rid of guys that are useless like the Mark Henrys/Chavo Guerreros of the WWE.

But I agree the WWE needs to do something to freshen things up a bit, especially with the number of titles and the number of title changes a year. I haven't watched a full RAW since March and feel like I haven't missed a thing.

So, I am looking at the WWE's roster (and some minor league talents) and I think, for my money, that they have enough deadweight that they could drop to combine the brands into one, talented cohesive product offering. I will list them in terms of main eventers down. Note, these are strictly people I would choose to keep. I purposely left off the women/announcers and other folks that the WWE list as "talent," not in the traditional wrestling sense.

    Main Eventers:
    Chris Jericho
    Edge
    John Cena
    Randy Orton
    Sheamus
    HHH
    Big Show
    CM Punk
    Jack Swagger
    Rey Misterio
    Undertaker

    Midcarders:
    Evan Bourne
    Goldust
    John Morrison
    Primo Colon
    R-Truth
    Santino
    Ted Dibiase
    The Miz
    Tyson Kidd
    William Regal
    Yoshi Tatsu
    Zach Ryder
    Chavo Guerrero
    Christian
    Cody Rhodes
    Dolph Ziggler
    Drew McIntyre
    Kofi Kingston
    Luke Gallows
    Matt Hardy
    MVP
    Vance Archer

    Developmentals:

    Daniel Bryan
    Wade Barrett
    Justin Gabriel
    Kaval
    The Uso's

I stuck the Uso's and the NXT guys under this banner since they are so new to the WWE world, but really, they are midcard guys.

Wrestlers like Regal, Chavo, Goldust, Matt Hardy (and I toyed with keeping Finlay) are guys that the audience still connects with, but can be used to help out the younger wrestlers. Sort of like player coaches.

Wrestlers like Ryder, Tatsu, Archer, Gallows, Primo, and Santino are your lower card guys who would work best paired with a wrestler of higher stature, or used in throwaway segments (as Zach, Chavo, and Santino mainly are now). Or thrown together as a lower rung tag team to act as fodder for whoever the champs are at the time.

That is roughly 40 wrestlers to fill two shows, and that is not to mention the women (Melina, Beth Phoenix, Nattie Neidhart, Kelly Kelly, Bella Twins, Michelle McCool, Layla, Maryse, etc.) that can kill a segment or two throughout the two shows.

    Looks good to me anyways...

Thanks for the list, I agree with you there. I'm actually tempted to just dump all of the women except maybe 3 or 4 of them and make them managers/part time workers, mainly sense their matches just bore me, non of them can really work and they take away valuable TV time.

I'm probably dump Goldust, Chavo and Regal too.

I actually would love to see Regal move on to some sort of mentor/manager role. He was great as the GM of Raw and can still go in the ring. The other two, while never main event potential, can work still and are good guys to have when breaking in newer talent. They know their roles and know that they are there to help others get over.

Ring of Honor is great. A ton of the internet favorites have done tours of duty through there (Samoa Joe, Danielson, Christopher Daniels, Austin Aries, Desmond Wolfe, Roderick Strong, Alex Shelley and many more). They were also tapped to provide talent when The Wrestler was taped.

CHIKARA isn't my favorite, but not a bad outfit either. PWG is great for the west coast folks.

I was a big fan of Regal as RAW GM but I really think his time has passed and I don't think he can bring anything to the table that will help young talent or draw money. Plus he's always a Wellness Policy risk, which you have to worry about if you give him any sort of meaningful position in the company.

I don't think either Chavo or Goldust bring anything useful either. Yeah Chavo is a good worker but he's a jobber and is getting a win over him or even Goldust really help a rookie get over? I mean if a rookie beats one of them is it really a big deal? You already have guys like Matt Hardy and Primo for that stuff.

I'd really just trim the roster of all the dead weight, if I don't think they have potential to draw or get over I'd cut them, especially if they are older guys. I'd look to the veterans like Cena, Triple H, and Jericho to help the younger guys out in terms of advice and guidance along with the road agents.

Oversight on my part. Although, to be honest, if he didn't have the Hart-Smith name attached to him, he would be blander than a saltine cracker. But he is young (23) and has the pedigree and build that you want in a future star. He just needs seasoning...hopefully.

Ahhh, but see who is going to work the house shows and do all of those tiny appearances? Something that is often overlooked when building a roster. Guys like Goldust, Chavo and Regal tend to travel well and help fill out a house show roster. Especially since guys like Undertaker, HHH and a few other aren't doing the road too often these days. You need guys like that. Unless you are just going to pull in local talent to fill it out, but then the audience feels ripped off.

I missed the show, but it sounds like Regal stated shooting on people which might require me to look it up. Hennig's boy can work, as can Kaval. Alex Riley is the current FCW champ and is a nice prospect, but from what I can tell, the rest are sort of just...there.

I am not a fan of changing the names of the multiple generation stars and then acknowledging them as such. Husky Harris? Michael McGuilicutty? Horrible names. Why not let them be Rotundo and Hennig? I know the WWE wants to own their names, but those are awful and really sets them up for failure.

Besides, Rotundo's boy has a brother in developmental as well which would have been perfect for him to debut as a tag team (although they may be at their breaking point for family themed tag teams at this point).

Ideally, I think I would love to see Kaval, looking SEVERELY annoyed with LayCool at every chance he gets, but nice to their faces. Then, when he wins, or upon his elimination, he just kicks their heads off and walks off.

Honestl, a little mini stable of Danielson, Kaval, Gabriel and a pro/manager would be fantastic down the road. Hell, someone like Regal could pull it off. "Retire" from wrestling and have him cut a promo that his influence is far reaching and that while he is no longer destroying people in the ring, he will by proxy. Then have his faction of young guns attack someone. A Danielson/Kaval tag team would be fun to watch for a little bit before the eventual break up and feud.

I didn't take into account working house shows or tiny appearances (would enough people really go to a local mall/store to get an autograph from Chavo, Regal or Goldust anymore?). If the WWE needs the bodies then fine, keep 3 or 4 of those types of guys on the payroll (like they did with Val Venis for years) but they shouldn't get any TV time unless it's part of a battle royal, lumber jack match, a quick squash match or backstage beat down. In otherwords I'm fine with them working house shows but I don't want to turn on RAW to watch a weekly segment of Chavo Guerrero vs. Hornswoggle feud that wastes 5 to 7 minutes when that time could be used for a longer match or an angle/interview getting the younger guys over.

Oh I 100% agree there. And I think enough younger fans go to mall appearances and whatnot still. I remember Al Snow, D-Lo Brown and Val Venis doing an autograph appearance at a comic book store and the line being out the door to get autographs. Same for the Hardy Boys when they first broke onto the scene.

I wouldn't so much push these guys, as I would let them be the fodder for the newer wrestlers, or on occasion, give them an added incentive like being a lumberjack or in a six man tag or something along those lines. There is something to be said for having quality, elder statesmen around the lockerroom. They set a tone and can preach the company line/policy to younger guys and act as mentors. Essentially playing out the kayfabe role of the Pros on NXT.

That stuff is fine with me, I just don't like it when guys get valueble TV time and don't deserve it. I hated having to sit through a Hornswoggle/Chavo match or anything involving Mark Henry or the divas and then watch a Kofi/Jericho match get in a rushed 4 minute match. I'd rather cut the crap out of RAW and Smackdown and give the guys the company should be building around solid 10 minute matches or interview/angles to help them get over.

If the WWE wants to keep the Chavo Guerreros/Goldusts of the world around for house shows and help with the young guys, that's fine and I'm all for it. I doubt Chavo cares he's a jobber at this point in his career when he's collecting a weekly pay check so he'll be a company man and do whatever the WWE asks. All I ask is for the WWE to do is just put that crap on Superstars or another weekend meaningless program instead. I'd have no problem with Goldust wrestling a Dolph Ziggler type on Superstars or the WWE running a Hornswoggle/Chavo angle there. Just keep it off PPVs and their main shows.
